Was about to just say it, never turn your front wheels before you actually move, especially in snow. While van is not truck it's much havier then regular car, beside making it a lot harder to move in snow even on dry pavement turning in place puts heavy strain on everything that's connected to front wheels, in have vehicle it can even ruin front tires. Have done that trip solo twice. And I’m British🇬🇧so completely out of my depth you’d imagine 🤣Am always prepared & travelling as a lone woman am always super aware of my surroundings & keep in regular contact with home. @ As I mention, I am always aware of my surroundings and prepared. Definitely plan ahead and be careful whether you’re a man or a woman. When you’re in extremely remote areas you need to respect that and be prepared! 😊
Won't even lie. At a lot of angles you show in the van. I can't even tell it's inside a van. It is such a cozy homey setup and I love it. I'd probably end up watching the snow build up from the driver's seat
I mean, you’d have to take off loads of snow from the wheels and it’ll take HOURS, also, the home has only a bit of food as the freezer would be too small and the food runs out. Also, it’d be scary to sleep alone in the midle of a forest where wild animals live, the door doesnt have key so anyone could enter
I would love doing that! I drive an eighteen wheeler and love it when it gets stormy and I get parked in a safe place, staying in the truck is pretty much like being in a small camper. The wind rocks the cab back and forth all night while im nice and warm and toasty in my bed!!😊

As the proud daughter of s long haul daughter, I absolutely love to see trucks at the truck stop on a snowy night. There's a peace that I feel. I love the winter, and I have watched this video several times since it was first posted. I crave winter and snow! I love this video. I thoroughly enjoyed this video!!! Beautiful van and I am happy for you.
The way you constructed the inside of the van looks luxurious. You did a good job transforming it into a very nice tiny house. You’re out of your mind camping in a heavy snow. That’s dangerous.
I'm from Montana and lived for years in North Dakota too and I would never even think of driving in weather like that without a 4WD or AWD vehicle. Glad your adventure worked out for you. Stay safe man!
That snow is different than the powder in North Dakota (born and raised in the Oregon Cascades, currently living in Williston ND) It's a heavy wet snow usually and much more dense than powder and much more difficult (usually) do drive through than dry snow.
Michigan is a cooler state. We got two states in one. One is a peninsula almost 360° surrounded in water, the other is a land bridge covered in forest. The top of the mitten is covered in forest. The bottom has farmlands and several big cities... It's a winter and a water state. Twin state.
I grew up in Maine, I used to drive my little Hyundai Accent front wheel drive in the snow with studded snow tires to and from work for a few years before moving away. I remember driving to work in a blizzard through 1 foot high snow drifts to find out they had closed the office that day due to the weather. Front wheel drive works well in the snow because the weight of the engine helps you get traction, just have to take it slow and be careful.
I actually lived in Portland, Oregon for almost a decade and Ann Arbor, Michigan for 4 years, so I've driven in all kinds of weird weather. I think I'll retire somewhere that doesn't snow (if I can afford it). Belize, here I come!
Not sure if this will be a helpful tip, but if you want to avoid having to walk and find a bathroom, especially at night and in snowy/bad weather, bring along a 5 gallon bucket to use as a toilet. You can use a pool noodle as a ‘seat’…and Amazon even sells toilet seats that actually fit on 5 gallon buckets. Throw in a trash bag and kitty litter inside the bag and it’s an instant toilet. Not ideal but saves you the hassle of having to leave your nice warm van on a cold, snowy or rainy night and any possible dangers there may be out there. Stay safe and loved your video.
Be safe when walking on those trails to take a quick peek at the sights, something could go very wrong I’d suggest bringing a little pack just of survival things if you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation.. one slip and fall could get you in trouble especially if you can’t make it back up to safety..
Waterfall in that frozen landscape was like a revelation - the sound of the cataract haunted me like a passion (Coleridge?). This film is one of the reasons why UA-cam is replacing television in many people's lives. A daring and enterprising man,
Nature's sounds have a therapeutic quality that soothes the soul and calms the mind. Whether it's the rhythmic crashing of ocean waves or the distant call of a lone wolf, each sound carries with it a sense of peace and grounding
You could make Chili or stews. Chicken cacciatore or parm. omelets, pancakes, shrimp scampi, pan pizza, Alfredo pasta with seafood. You can make a roast on the fire or a roast chicken if you get a covered cast iron pot. Steaks can be cooked so many ways also
I love how your able to stay in a cozy van like this in the snow. Obviously nobody would bother you there. I might add a mini wood stove as backup to this setup. I think I would enjoy this. For food, one pot meals are nice maybe red thai curry noodles with shrimp? Beautiful!
From a Canadian that just shoveled over 2 feet of snow from driveway and half city snowed in. Glad you got out okay, but this can be really dangerous. Dont know if you've got the extreme tempertures we have, but if your battery dies or you have car trouble which can happen even in new car this kind of stuff can get real risky, especially if no one is coming or can come get you for a while. Glad it turned out ok.
You're living my dream life. The joy on your face expressing all the beauty around you is just priceless. Thank you for taking your time and uploading your content. Well needed during these crazy and weird times.
You need to build a small convenient “wet bath” so you don’t freeze when using the facilities + washing room; Also (if possible), add solar panels on the roof of your van-it can help with extra energy usage
Big MAV fan here but dude, your drone shots are no joke. I like the duality of the casual vlog style and then the amazing sights of the drone. Keep up the good work!
Hell of a scary storm. Not many brave people have the opportunity to do this. Great video. A true survivalist perspective on how to hunker down. Many great tips , and especially the threatening of severe weather alert’s broadcasting along the trek to find a place to Batton down the hatches, adds to the excitement of getting tucked in and under blankets with a full belly.

It looks amazing. We were snowed in our campervan in Germany together. In the morning it looked beautiful on a lake close by .There was a bakery with an outdoor oven cooking scrumptious onion bread 😎 It was an amazing experience
You are lucky to find a RR open, here in Maine our Governor & the Highway Department think that all the travelers should plug their lower orifices. Today it is November 3, 2023, the highway department has taken down the Rest Stop Signs & Boarded the RR (they did it on October 3rd). Real snow is months away but that does not matter to the Guardians of the Rest Stops. By the way how do you keep the cooking smell out, in my house the kitchen, dinning area & the living space is 25'x25', any heavy duty cooking is always done before 1.00 pm, exhaust fan runs & the bed rooms and bath room doors are kept closed during cooking. I would not like to take a shower & dry myself with a fish smelling towel.

I think a good thing to cook is buy some cooked shrimp 🍤 and make some Angel hair pasta and then on a tiny pan or sauce pan take some margarine (preferably blue bonnet brand or similar) and pour garlic powder over the margarine, mixing it as you go and then pour it over the Angel hair and shrimp. It’s shrimp scampi but cheaper
This is the 3rd day this Winter season so far that my boss called me and told me to stay home due to the weather and roads.....in Wyoming The thick snow all over the woods and roads looks absolutely beautiful if you're on recreational........ But can be absolutely rough when you have to work in it....
I am exactly the same ...Kudos to him but things can so quickly go wrong in places like that. Don't mind snow and cold but the added remoteness (or it looks remote) is something as a female solo van lifer I won't be doing anytime soon.
You've got a beautiful setup! I love the design of everything. Have you considered maybe spraying the exhaust with de-icer so the ice doesn't have a chance to build up?
Wow, these places really exist! Breathtaking! It’s like you’re in a literal Christmas card! I can’t believe our ancestors lived in that without modern conveniences! I saw a woman make a ‘beef’ stew in her car with mushrooms, onions, carrots and she cut up sliced roast beef. I think she added chicken broth and coleslaw! Something like that would be perfect or a pasta fagioli (Italian chili). Copycat recipe can be found online. It’s basically just opening cans, and dumping in a saucepan after browning your hamburger meat. It’s perfect for that weather!

LOL!!! @ "....what if you get stuck or what if a crazy axe murderer was lurking around!" I was thinking the same thing!! I would be freaking out all along like that.
I'm curious: How does your family know you are safe from day to day? Do you call them in the mornings, or do they track your phone. Snow is beautiful but can be very dangerous.
@hitman9198 I disagree, I have seen perfectly fine roofs collapse, it can cause pipes to freeze. You can be prepared and still have everything go sideways. Heck the guy that runs this page had his car smacked by a plow. I still would rather the amount of snow and cold Temps we get than a tornado or a hurricane. I live in the snow belt on the great lakes (Lake Erie) it can get crazy.
@Heather K I live in Northern Minnesota. It's not like I don't experience the extreme cold and massive blizzards. For months out of the year. Like I said earlier if you are prepared you can definitely handle a little snow. It doesn't even look that cold. I work alot outside all winter long. Plus raise cattle.
You know right now I’m working on a fanfiction graphic novel to practice with and it’s about how a group crashes in a massive storm and try to stay warm inside a pick up truck full of farm food. I was inspired by a massive snow collusion in 2021 on a highway. People were there all night but they were rescued and there were no deaths. I’ve been working on this small graphic novel for over a year now and I’m still working on it. You are a man with perseverance and positive thinking just like the character in my novel. Try Mac & cheese, the kind you boil that comes with the squeeze cheese in the foil bag. Also a can of chicken white meat is best. Cook Mac & cheese as directed, drain pasta add 1-2 table spoons butter or margarine & mix in cheese. If you have a microwave get a bag of mixed veggies from the frozen section. Have done that trip solo twice. And I’m British🇬🇧so completely out of my depth you’d imagine 🤣Am always prepared & travelling as a lone woman am always super aware of my surroundings & keep in regular contact with home. What an adventure. Love this vid ❄️
U r taking great risks. U are able to tell ur story.
Some of the best sleep I ever got was in my sleeper
@@chainmailunderwearthey've done studies, we sleep better in lower temps. In some countries like Norway, they actually let their infants nap in strollers outside bundled up in the cold! Prob explains why I leave my AC on to sleep even in the winter 😂

As the proud daughter of s long haul daughter, I absolutely love to see trucks at the truck stop on a snowy night. There's a peace that I feel. It's snowing like crazy, interstate 5 is backed up due to a collision. And the trucks are at the truck stop resting. Peace of God be with our truckers and their semi's. I see a semi, I pray a fence of angels around them.
Impressed at the fact you were prepared with the chains, knew how to use them, and made a point to mention you'd clear the roof before driving the main road. Great setup, great editing, cool drone work. Subscribed for more!

I love the winter, and I have watched this video several times since it was first posted. I crave winter and snow! I love this video. I thoroughly enjoyed this video!!! Beautiful van and I am happy for you.
I live in an RV and I still enjoy watching people living in an RV or van. Such a great life style. I'm so blessed!
The way you constructed the inside of the van looks luxurious. You did a good job transforming it into a very nice tiny house. You’re out of your mind camping in a heavy snow. That’s dangerous.
He didn do it another guy did the work on this van
@@freshtodeath6376 I did the conversion, I made a video about it!

There are ways to get comfort in heavy snow
@@TravelersTale Would you be able to give us an estimate on how much it cost? This is what I need.
@@dundonrl it depends usually it is the dry stuff but if we get a storm closer to march it’s that wet heavy crap born and raised in Bismarck
There are also porta potties, compact toilets, compost toilets, and other types of mini toilets you can hide in the van.
A daring and enterprising man,
That scenery is absolutely breathtaking, this world is amazing and more beautiful in the winter/snow
Winter is my favorite season
Nature's sounds have a therapeutic quality that soothes the soul and calms the mind. Whether it's the rhythmic crashing of ocean waves or the distant call of a lone wolf, each sound carries with it a sense of peace and grounding
You could make Chili or stews. Chicken cacciatore or parm. omelets, pancakes, shrimp scampi, pan pizza, Alfredo pasta with seafood. You can make a roast on the fire or a roast chicken if you get a covered cast iron pot. Steaks can be cooked so many ways also
Good ideas! Thanks!
Sounds good 👌
Mmmm…chili…and skillet cornbread…heaven!
Home made soups are great and filling.
Get an enamel Dutch oven from target or similar.
I love how your able to stay in a cozy van like this in the snow. Obviously nobody would bother you there. I might add a mini wood stove as backup to this setup. I think I would enjoy this. For food, one pot meals are nice maybe red thai curry noodles with shrimp? Beautiful!

would a wood stove be safe in a van?
@@neptunites yes they are. I follow Forestry Forrest and he has one and uses it all the time. His channel is amazing!

No one would believe how nice and cosy from the outside your van is.

You need to build a small convenient “wet bath” so you don’t freeze when using the facilities + washing room;
Also (if possible), add solar panels on the roof of your van-it can help with extra energy usage

Hell of a scary storm. Not many brave people have the opportunity to do this. Great video. A true survivalist perspective on how to hunker down.
I so envy people like you who can camp in places like that.

I grew up in west TX, not West, TX, it Walmart always hot and there wasn’t much winter. When I was a Scoutmaster, I made sure to take the boys someplace there was snow for winter camping. Nothing beats the feeling of staying warm and dry all night, waking up to breaking ice off the zippers to get out of the tent, building a big fire and cooking big breakfasts outside.

I saw a woman make a ‘beef’ stew in her car with mushrooms, onions, carrots and she cut up sliced roast beef. I think she added chicken broth and coleslaw! I'm curious: How does your family know you are safe from day to day? Do you call them in the mornings, or do they track your phone.
Snow is beautiful but can be very dangerous.
Not really if you're prepared.
