Misleading title. He's not embarrassed about the band. Just about that one vid. Fix your misleading title.
+TruthSurge This is the Huffington Post, not a real news source.
Click-baity title is click-baity.
+LifeIMO94 yea exactly
"This is the Huffington Post, not a real news source" Typical... bring politics into it. Next why don't we whine about Hillary or Trump? Pathetic
It is the Huff Post, the Center for Misinformation.
The title is very misleading. He's not embarrassed of Oingo Boingo, he's embarrassed of a dorky music video he had no control over. Which is totally understandable.
Well, it's Huffington Post. Don't expect honesty.
@trha2222 Back to School was around 1987
@trha2222 Back To School was 1986 and I'd love to know what Elfman did in Batman Begins (2005).
@trha2222 Rodney Dangerfield's "Back To School"?
@@Seanoir he scored it
Definitely a misleading title. I would've been heartbroken if he was embarrassed by Oingo Boingo
I know! I 💗 him and the band so much! Danny Elfman adds sparkle to my life!
Agreed recently been listening to them they are great.
For real as good as his new music is I have to say it sounds like he's just voice acting for Tim Burton.
Same
Got into the group again because JoJo Bizarre Adventures had characters that shared the same and even had the art style of the album covers. I wonder if Elfman has ever seen the characters, he might like it.
When you watch this, you find out that he's embarrassed about a single music video and not his "Oingo Boingo days." Nice video, but the title sucks.
alanhyt79 exactly. fucking click bait. he didnt hate the band just the video
+alanhyt79 I agree, I thought at first he was embarrassed about his band in general. That would make me cry. I loved and still love them.
+DB Cooper Strangely though, he said he said he had a hand in making everything BUT the Weird Science video. As creepy as he and his brother are, they are fantastic entertainers.
***** lol
+alanhyt79 Huffpost's headline is basically accurate. We can split hairs but he *does* find Oingo Boingo embarrassing in general. He concentrated on the video cause he's too cautious to elaborate, but then threw in a general potshot at his 'past' anyway. He's been doing that. He has no attachment to the band, which is a shame because it's definitely the part of his catalogue that is aging the best by far. Not the circusy burton crap that is mainly hip with Japanese gothgirls. I suppose he'd rather be even 'not John Williams' than a former punk shitstirrer whose music was way less restricted and original back then than what vaunted 'film score composers' ever get to do anymore anyway.
"because it's stupid"
i freakin burst out laughing when he said that
*stoopid
Me too.... "Because it's STUUpid."
He's such a huge success it really doesn't surprise me that he said that.
erin That grin he gives her afterwards. Like he's thinking "Well, what more do you want?"
erin LMFOA
Haha. The talent this man has completely trumps any of his embarrassing moments. The man is a genius.
He has written some great movie and TV soundtracks.
Yeah he is.
Can you believe he literally has more formal training in nuclear biophysics than he does in music (after “dropping out” of high school too)?
Right on!!!
Ok we didn't forget that he wrote the song Little Girls
Oingo Boingo was just one of the things that made the 80's so great.
Deadman’s party is the best Halloween song ever made. Better than thriller imo
I remember watching "Back to School " and they were on it. I was pretty happy. Almost as happy as when Siouxsie and the Banshees made a cameo in "Batman Returns. "
My first concert, 1986
I was a big fan. I bet I could still sing most of the words.
Yes, and made a few Halloweens fun too❤
Misleading title.
He is not embarrassed of Oingo Boingo, he's embarrassed of the Weird Science music video.
I love the weird science music
Why cant people understand his intentions?
nonplayerzealot4 what about" little girls"....
He wishes his creation just wasn't real
Angelo Desanto it is amazing how many people truly don't get that song. Thank you, for being aware and informed.
All he ever wanted was to bring them something great.
Nothing bad ever happens to him!
"because it's stupid"
LOL
:(
sad reactions only
Blues Feldberg Ha Ha!..Senfield said that in one of his episodes and it was just as funny.
Favorite part
*she waits for him to say more but he was done his point*
helloimtab I love it when interviewers are flummoxed like that😁
She obviously expected an exhaustive, itemized list of everything Elfman thought was wrong with the video....
HuffPost wanted a nerd rant to entertain viewers.
In saying "Because it's stupid" and leaving it there, Danny was basically telling the interviewer that he's not here to dance for her.
"It's stupid. Period. Go fuck yourself"😁
I'm gonna have to check out that stupid video lmao
Typical UA-cam exploitation. Danny Elfman's Oingo Boingo days aren't the embarassment - the video for "Weird Science" was because he had no involvement in the concept, which was cool for the day, but rather lame by today's standards. Some things don't age well.
Weird Science was a awesome "B " rated movie !!! The rest of the movie actors are very happy to be in it ...
wildman318 I don't think Elfman objected to the movie or the song so much...
I just think he was annoyed that he was obligated to be in a video he had no creative control over AND a video he considered stupid.
Danny Elfman isn't above looking foolish--he has gleefully made a complete ass of himself in several videos (not to mention while part of the Mystic Knights).
When he judges that a video is too stupid for him to be in, he knows what he's talking about😉
Well, even by the standards of the '80s it is not really Danny's thing. All of the the Oingo Boingo videos are kind of edgy and Danny spends some time doing one of the best Joker impersonations.
It was posted by the Huffington Post. They are to journalism what dog sh*t is to finger paint.
If he directed it I’m sure it would have featured a nuclear catastrophe. It would have aged like a fine wine by the following year after Chernobyl happens.
Danny Elfman is so great. It's interesting that his highly successful rock band is one of his minor accomplishments. That's something that so many strive for and so few achieve.
Totally misleading headline. And it's not like this is news. I believe the entire band went on record years ago saying that "Weird Science" was their least favorite Oingo Boingo song.
+SirHatchporch Yeah, and "Dead Man's Party" after that, but that one is actually a great tune... I think they just got sick of playing it.
+SirHatchporch Agreed, that headline is pure bullshit.
Yeah, the very definition of “fake news”.
jdw99 "Dead Man's Party" represents an unfortunate phenomenon where a fantastic and unique band becomes forever linked to one of their most mediocre (comparatively) songs.
If you hear "Dead Man's Party", and that's the extent of your knowledge of Oingo Boingo's work, it's tremendous...
But if you start listening to the REST of their library, you realize that "Dead Man's Party" is hardly a fair example of what this band is capable of:
It happened to DEVO with "Whip It", it happened to the B-52's with "Love Shack".
Sometimes a band gets lucky and is forever remembered for their actual best work...
But too often--especially where more eccentric bands are concerned--the only thing anyone remembers is the song that got the most radio play or charted the highest😔
this too happened with Butthole Surfers - "Pepper." although I love that song. And with Ween too - "Ocean Man." I'm sick and tired of that fucking meme
The I love little girls song doesn't embarrass him this man is my hero 😂
Of course that song was intended as a satirical social commentary, so there's no reason why it should embarrass him.
And it's a damn catchy song too
Ninya / Ninja Brifsanovich the Saiyan Probably the catchiest song about a pedophile ever written, lol.
"And I don't care what people think!"
@@michaelvessel4604 is it about somebody specifically
Saw this cat last night at the Hollywood Bowl for his Nightmare Before Christmas concert. MY GOD it was PERFECT!! And 20 years later after he swore he never would again, HE PERFORMED DEAD MAN'S PARTY!! OWNED!!!
Remastering the Oingo Boingo catalog would be a fucking travesty.
The way albums are remastered nowadays it would be a travesty
How true - Oingo Boingo enters the Loudness Wars.
@@MetFan37 If a company like Cherry Red did them I'd be on board. They do a great job on reissues.
He says they don't need to be remastered, but the albums need to be re-released and in turn be remastered. They're getting to be out of print. All those unreleased songs would be a nice addition for bonus material as well.
+Gritnom Too true, OB are criminally under-known imo and a re-release with Danny's blessing could help younger generations be aware of how great they were. Their records are almost impossible to find in UK record shops. But he's not the kind of guy to blow his own trumpet and is more interested in moving on and making new music, admirable really.
+Synesthesiac no his management is pretty useless actually, and sort of self-sabotaging. The lack of being known is mostly due to them being stuck to L.A., and not much farther east even in the US. He also never fraternized with other bands. He hadnt ever performed in the UK until the Royal Albert Hall thing in 2013, so you can see why UK record shops would be clueless. Bands usually have to tour their asses off to get noticed, whereas he's said about 17 times per interview about how much he hated touring.
I would prefer if they released a box set of all their demos & non-album tracks. They are very hard to find!
+AMJ 80 Not true, they had a mini-tour of the U.K. In 1986 I believe & it was not a huge success
Monjeseñal well then he forgot about it.
Danny and the boys were always such a great live act. Outstanding energy every time.
jaywar69 - I saw them 33x, they were incredible
Oingo Boingo were great. One of the best 80's bands. Their sound and style were very unique and original.
He didn't say that he was "embarrassed about his Oingo Boingo Days," he said he was embarrassed about THAT video because it wasn't one that he directed. That means that he LIKED the ones that he directed, hey? Weird Science was the first breakout mainstream song for them (outside of the KROQ fans) so that was a funny time. Some were saying he sold out.
Danny Elfman has nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to his music with the band. Oingo Boingo and he were brilliant, ground-breaking and changed the course of music.
I talked with one of the band member's family and she said that they were all accomplished Jazz players that were tired of not making any money so went into New Wave music, as it was called at the time.
"Grey Matter" is one of my favs along with "Capitalism".
Also see "Oingo Boingo on the Gong Show". That was how they began. Sooo creative.
Grey Matter is fantastic. for their early work, Only A Lad (both the song and the album) are practically perfection in my opinion.
@@laurenblainebamartistmgt technically The Gong show performance was the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo... Which was a different band that Oingo Boingo spawned from. Different songs and partially different lineup. Still worth checking out, and they are part of the band's evolution, but I think the distinction is important. And yes I'm a freaking nerd to point out such a technicality. lol
The very ending of this vid, "One has to embrace.. One's past" he says in a Jack Skelington voice. LMAO!
Are you kidding? This guy is a musical genius. I have ALL the Boingo albums. This guy knows sound and the art of communicating through sound. He is no dummy. The Boingo albums still sound fantastic, superbly produced and his writing is cynical/reality/commentary of the times. Some topics he hit upon back then would get him cancelled today, but back then it was a social commentary, not social promotion with the punk attitude of the times. It was in your face reality, but with a gloss of high fidelity, heavy guitars, synths, brass, heavy/complicated drums , and bass licks to combine into an incredible sound unique to Oingo Boingo. Like the Police, no one can capture the lightning in the bottle Elfman crafted. 'Pictures of You' rates up there with 'Home by the Sea'' (Genesis) for creepy storytelling.
He could be a narrator, he has the voice for that!.
and i sooo wish he had played phantom! lol thats how one movie critic described jack's character and his singing voice in NBC. ''Phantom of the opera-esque voice and look of red death.''
he was a musical genius that still holds up today it was anything but emberrasing if i might say so, he along with many others was the voice of a generation, and i love the man for doing so.
This video is notorious among Oingo Boingo fans because it is a complete lie. He shows embarrassment for ONE video (not the song just the video) and they smack the most dishonest title one can imagine. This video should be taken down. It has misled so many people to think that Danny Elfman is embarrassed by Oingo Boingo. So many people repeat this title as fact and it's just not true. (Or if it is he has never said so publicly)
Oingo Boingo was the highlight of his career and you know it.
+SuperZMAN555 Hell no, scoring amazing movie soundtracks is a huge jump forward
he's every bit Boingo even in a short interview. passionate, emphatic, weirdly enthused, brutally honest.
Not really. His career has been kinda amazing. Too many films and tv series has his work. Look simply at the simpsons he scored the opening credits...you listen to just the tune from the simpsons and its globally recognized by anyone who has watched tv in the last 30 years. Many superstar movies as well as cult faves he wo r ked the music for.
No...that would be his long association with Tim Burton.
Arrrrrrrrgggh. That's not right. He is one of the greatest movie composers today.
Danny apparently hasn't watched "Dancing in the Street."
I wonder if David or Mick (was RIP) is embarrassed by that. I know David was embarrassed about a few of his songs.
@@Alice-gd4sx I'm not surprsised about that.
Onigoboingo's music wasn't embarrassing it was great and alot of people enjoyed it Nothing bad ever happened to Danny !!!!!
His embarrassment is comical to me. one of the most brilliant musicians, just so much fun in the music while despair and death are made lyrical joys.
"This video is, like, complicated."
🙌Oingo Boingo played my Prom onboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach back in the day !
how is it that his speaking voice and his "acting"/singing voices are so different? what an incredible man.
Man, Danny Elfman is real life musical genius...a brilliant singer, live performer, musician, and composer. He is just so unbelievably talented.
I loved Oingo Boingo's musicality. They were unique among unique rock groups. Danny's vocals were awesome.
I didn't even know Oingo Boingo was Danny Elfman...
Duh........
Oingo Boingo was a band. Danny Elfman was the lead vocalist, lyricist, composer, and overall driving force behind the band.
Tom Ogden Exactly, there was no Oingo Boingo without Danny Elfman, so he essentially *was* Oingo Boingo.
lemmingscanfly5 every member of Oingo Boingo was just as important as Elfman.
Daniel Davis - said the guy who thinks everyone should get a trophy.
As far as I'm concerned, whatever Danny made back then was cool. Danny Elfman was the definition of cool back then and he still is.
His dark voice at the end “one has to embrace ones past” 🖤
He's nothing like his character in the videos. He seems rather normal. Imagine that. Oingo rules. Miss them so much.
Danny Elfman will always inspire me and I can understand to an extent I'll still play oingo boingo because it makes my day ... Thank you to all the members of OB your music enriches my day to day life
I can understand being embarrassed about something you did and had no control over but this man IS a genius and his band was so great... they were some of the best concert moments I've ever had. I really wish that Oingo Boingo lasted a lot longer than they did.... I would still be listening to them today ( I still listen to the music they've already done but new stuff would be so great!!
Lordy, I love that man to pieces.
Soooooo much!
What a terrible title!!
There was nothing embarrassing about Oingo Boingo. It was an *awesome* band, and it led to him becoming an awesome film composer. Seriously...fix this.
Man I almost had a heart attack. I loved the boingo days. I can't tell you how many dead mans parties I have been too! Greatest concerts of all time! Don't ruin it Danny! At least keep me in the 'dark'.
"The title is very misleading. He's not embarrassed of Oingo Boingo, he's embarrassed of a dorky music video he had no control over..."
Growing up with Oingo Boingo myself I hope your not embarrassed it was amazing to see the band live in Orange County for Halloween. And I'm happy for your success u have now with movie scores.
"We Close Our Eyes" Best Oingo song ever
obviously songs and whether they are the best is highly subjective. i dont dislike that song but it was probably the most mainstream pop style song boingo ever did. we all have our own opinions. mine is that we close our eyes is no where near their best song. cant really say my favorite because there isnt any boingo song from their studio albums i dislike. but chances are it would be from the 80s. and most likely be the live version. ok my favorite boingo song is the entire 2cd set for boingo alive. or maybe piggies. just to difficult. but as not to step on a fellow boingophile, WE CLOSE OUR EYES was a great song! even when susannah sang it for the buffy soundtrack
RaneMP2016 along with “Stay” , “Just Another Day” , “Is This”
The list goes on.
RaneMP2016
We close our eyes may be your personal best, but his whole catalog from the days of "The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo" to his work in films are his best work.
@@lordfestivus1968 For me it's probably "Something Isn't Right" because I think it encapsulates everything Boingo is in one song.
I'm more partial to Grey Matter and Just Another Day, but to each his own.
Nasty Habits is one of my favorites from Oingo Boingo. I encourage any fan of his compositions for Tim Burton films to listen to it. On another note the song "A Little Piece of Heaven" by Avenged Sevenfold was partially arranged by Steve Bartek who was one of Boingo's bandmates and has helped with some of the scores created by Elfman.
Dude made life in LA circa 80's so much fun.
Click bait for sure! It's like Bowie's "Fame" it was done for commercial purposes and fell way out of the realm of their creativity. Having this effin zygote from huffpo basically say "hey it was all goofy sh*t back then" obviously insulted him.
+Lauster Yeah, her remark pissed me off too.
+Lauster She's talking about music videos back in the 80's and she is correct. Many of them were goofy as could be. It was the norm. She's not saying his music was goofy. She's strictly talking about the video.
+Gewgulkan Suhckitt The first part of my comment was aimed at the clickbait title "Danny Elfman On His "Embarrassing" Oingo Boingo Days" which this interview in NO way bears out. He was talking about how his non-involvement in THIS video led to a work attributed to Oingo and himself, that he cringes at, to this day. The zygote comment was directed at her saying that All videos back then were goofy, including the ones he obviously was proud of. And also...she was, like, 3 when these videos came out.
Gotta at least give her props for referencing Ultravox. How many millenials know who the hell Ultravox is?
That evil grin at 2:08!
😂😂😂
MOSTLY EVERYTHING about the 80's was stupid, Danny!
But Oingo Boingo was not one of them.💚💚
Well said. I’ve loved Oingo Boingo since seeing them with XTC at the Whiskey in Hollywood in August 1980. I was mesmerized seeing Danny on stage, he’s amazing!
I can't believe he calls one of the greatest contributions to the 80's (his band, Oingo Boingo) "stupid." That's very unkind. Just because he became a big shot composer. I consider his work with his band Oingo Boingo even greater than his work with The Simpsons!
he is weird man
The title sucks!
I clicked on the video prepared to be heartbroken because I LOVE Boingo & it would really break my heart to know he was embarrassed by some of my very favorite music.
In all reality, he’s embarrassed by something he was forced to do because he didn’t invest in the process of making the video, NOT the music he made. That music is just in the past & he’s moving forward with his life.
Oingo Boingo was amazing. Thank God for Danny Elfman. Steve Bartek’s guitar work was truly special.
HuffPost needs to fix this misleading headline.
look at how many viewers in view of this I think the Oingo Boingo needs to do another tour
Some of his great stuff was from his early days when he scored his brothers movie "The Forbidden Zone". A soundtrack he composed in 2 weeks on no budget. Great classic film.
Of course the 'Weird Science' video is a little stupid and you just have to watch it to realise it's someone else's interpretation of Oingo Boingo. Compare Danny's energy in all other Boingo videos to his blank expression in Weird Science. Oingo Boingo was a different beast altogether and why has nobody still asked him to revisit the band's best records- Only A Lad, Nothing To Fear, Good For Your Soul...
their first album, only a lad, is a classic, love it
U guys should be ashamed for the misleading title. Very very underrated band. Danny is one of the best sound composers out there.
I would put Oingo Boingo against any band
It’s way more embarrassing to be embarrassed by your past.
Well if he hasn't been asked... perhaps there should be a petition to release all the OB rarities? Most are utterly fantastic and it's a shame they're so hard to find.
Great video though!
+Plushy I would probably cut off my pink toe with a pair of pliers for a high quality version of All The Pieces. Just saying
Plushy
I agree. They have a treasure trove of unreleased material.
+seanwtfgamer I'd do the same for "Find You" and "Remember My Name".
+Plushy
Even the low quality OB bootlegs from the early days are fantastic. I like them better than some of the later studio cuts!
I know, I can only pray that they still have the master tapes somewhere, and not just rotting and covered in dust.
You GOTTA love a musician who sees one of his band's videos on Beavis and Butt-Head and says:
"I DESERVE THIS!"😁😁😁
He's right it was perfect. No remaster needed.
It's endearing to hear such a brilliant songwriter open up about his own insecurities/regrets regarding his art, and with such hilariously frank delivery to the question of why he's uncomfortable re-examining the work: "Because it's stupid." Refreshing to get the unfiltered response from someone too humble and grounded to speak from anywhere but the heart.
Sorry, your title is deceptive and misleading and does no service to Danny Elfman or OB Fans. Any real fan would know he is referring to the song and video for Wierd Science a movie soundtrack song on NONE of their albums. He is in no way embarassed of his OB days. If you care for accuracy you should rename the title, please.
Oh it's Huff Post. Figures!
Except that its Track 9 on Dead Man's Party.
The song "Capitalism" changed my life.
Ha ha! His very last comment on the video, when he deepens his voice, is so much like he sounds on 'Helpless' (when he's speaking).
I hated Oingo Boingo with a passion back in their day. I was a metal guitarist and one of my best friends was a new wave keyboardist that loved the band and always tried to convince me of Danny’s genius. Didn’t happen back then but I do see how brilliant he was and is now.
Yeah, it's crazy how tribal some people are when they are young about dumb things. I like the old school heavy metal and new wave
I don't mind not to remaster the albums, but how about REISSUING the catalog and putting some demos and unreleased songs as bonus tracks? I mean some of those CD versions of the old albums cost a lot of money because they've been out of print for years I think. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Besides I'm not even sure if the Farewell DVD was ever released as Region 2. Some traders are selling the DVD for 100 dollars. I couldn't even watch it in Europe and I'd have to buy a region 1 DVD player. I'd rather give my money to the band and not to some random merchants who sell Oingo Boingo albums with extremely high price just because they're out of print.
I feel sad for anyone who didn't get to see OB live during their lives. They put on the best concerts. I was lucky to catch their shows several times in the early 90s.
As a 2000's kid, I'm sad I wasn't around in that era I would have loved to see OB live ❤ but my uncle did raise me on the good stuff.. so that's good at least 😅
Danny and band should totally go back and reissue all the albums. They are going out of print and with the reissues there could be a 2nd CD with demos, remixes and bsides and a DVD with music videos, TV perfs as well as a live concert from the period. Add to that a booklet with pix and extensive liner notes and not only do you have a cash cow for label and Danny but the legacy of the band will be strengthened across the world and a new generation of fans will be born.
Dead Man's Party is still my theme song LOL. I love and miss the 80's Oingo Boingo songs.
Let's make one thing clear:
The ONLY thing Danny Elfman could conceivably be truly embarrassed about is how absolutely goddamn awesome he is😀💗
I mean, I could see myself being embarrassed if I were him: Out walking amongst lesser mortals, my very existence reminding the common folk that they're not me and never can be me...
I think that might make me a tad bashful😉
Love the Boingo, Elfman's composing is great but I wish they would do one more album at least, even if they don't want to tour anymore :(
jdw99 There probably is little to no chance, especially from his hearing. We can only wish :(
I had such a crush on Danny back in the day. lol. Dead Man's Party has to be one of my top 3 favorite songs.
Gratitude is one of my favorite songs and Danny’s voice is definitely my favorite ❤️👍🏻
NO! NO REMASTERS!!!
Oingo Boingo was phenomenal as it is. I LOVE this music, and do not want it to be another Mike Oldfield Ommadawn or Hergest Ridge.
There will never be any remasters; the original masters were destroyed in the Universal fire. :(
think again
Danny is one of a few musicians around still that you can tell is genius or borderline genius. What do you think his IQ might be 150? 160? Higher? Some comparisons - It is believed Mozart's IQ was at least 180.
+Darren Willett >125 is Genius by definition. That is what Richard Feynman scores. He is only just a brilliant physicist.
I estimate Elfman's to be about 140. Just my guess.
*****
I am surprised. Perhaps Elfman is a savant concerning his musical talent.
But I think that Feynman is one who actually tested poorly..
Tests are limited in their scope of measuring underlying talent.
I will bet that Feynman would score much higher if he were retested as his ability to see the underlying abstract patterns in the Quantum Universe was phenomenal.
I have enjoyed some of his lectures online.
+Babyhowdy233 You're full of shit, and his brother would never say that. Danny was interested in science in school and no one ever said he did poorly. I've seen no indication that he cannot talk "intelligently" about anything, at the least of which he was smart enough not to get into Scientology.
+24kGoldenRocket don't be surprised, Babyhowdy's talking out of his/her ass. And Danny absolutely DID finish high school.
Yeah all that, plus that Danny said he got his high school credits and was not a drop out. Plus that he enjoyed science and did well in it in school.
Oingo Boingo was hugely successful in Brazil and still is.
Oooooo Elfman! The first composer I absolutely had to look up!
+Burgundy Black At first other composers looked down on him cuz he had no training and didn't even read music. Well, who is laughing now?
jdw99 nope didn't know that but it's majorly inspiring! Thx!
*****
Well, I think Elfman will get the last laugh. If you ask the average person on the street to name 3 film composers, one of them is going to be Danny Elfman, probably 90% of the time. Critic's opinions fade away, but that type of popular recognition makes a lasting legacy.
Why is Danny so embarrassed about the Weird Science video? it looks like every other Oingo Boingo video and the song is great! It is what made me a fan of them to begin with! He really shouldn't be ashamed of that. The 'Little Girls" video, however, should be the one he's blushing about.
The Little Girls video is brilliant fun and totally artfully insane, some people don't get the joke but it's a gem of a video and Danny is full of charisma in it!
Porch Fyre not to him it wasn't the same. It's his body of work and he can say exactly what he just said about it. But yes I do agree about little girls, although I'm pretty sure it's a mockery of the idea behind it and it's a catchy tune! But not something I'd sing around a park 0_0
Because both the song and video were pretty empty headed, and Oingo Boingo were a thinking man's band. Several of their songs, including 'LIttle Girls', told from the perspective of a desperate person ("Cinderella Under Cover", "Wild Sex in the Working Class"). Not to say that Weird Science was a bad song, it just wasn't typical of their style.
Noooo Danny, it’s not stupid, those were the 80s, everything was posible, a great decade that even now we still cherish 🥰🥰🥰
I'm glad he's not ashamed of his old work, like Ministry is. I saw Oingo Boingo live in Seattle for their Dead Man's Party album. I loved the show, it was simply amazing, everyone was dancing their shoes off. Possibly the best live experience of my life.
I love Oingo Boingo. I wish they would tour again.
Ah, clickbait titles. #fakenews
As a musician I highly relate to feeling cringe when thinking of my old songs.
Yeah I identify with you and with Danny as far as working on early music in the past It's like what the piss was I thinking The same thing goes with the guys in U 2 I hear when they where doing the album October they say they were in a fog doing that album and now they barely even acknowledges that album🤭
He's right. Listening to the spotify catalogue in 2022 and all the songs are masterfully engineered. No need to remaster
I had never even heard of Oingo Boingo until my girlfriend introduced them to me when we met in 2000, though I guess maybe part of it is because they didn’t seem to have a major presence outside of the west coast and I was just a chump in Horseapples, Ohio. Such a fun band, I missed out big time.
Click-baity title is click-baity.
SOU FÃ DESSE maravilhoso cantor!
I’d be more embarrassed of looking like Elton John In this interview than the weird Science video haha
This is one of the only time I've heard his regular speaking voice and it's honestly so jarring after hearing him in any other context. He sounds so different. And then that bit at the end where he does his signature voice really gets me
Ok embarrassed about that - but OB was kick ass!!!
Totally misleading and click bait. He was just referring to a video.
When Oingo Bingo came on at a party back in the 1980s, it was a fun time!! I still love the band to this day. No cell phones, no social media. Just dancing and singing along.
One of the most amazing musical groups of all time. Saw them live in Austin in 1986. Really wish they were doing the geriatric thing like Aerosmith, the Stones, etc ; )
he was only a lad at the time.
Well, this video is horseshit. But now that I noticed it was made by Huffigton Post, I am not surprised.
Change the title. He's not embarrassed about his Oingo Boingo "days." He doesn't like ONE video.
I remember the song, Who Do You Want To Be Today in the movie Bachelor party... that song was great!
What the fuck is he talking about I love that video!!
+Ethan John Lack of artistic input. He's associated with the video in the minds of many people yet he doesn't feel as close to it. It's akin to people mistaking you for someone else on the street, but... Just a touch different.
That's my take on it at least...
