Irwin Yablans, you lack vision. As do the majority of people at the time that spat at this film just because it wasn’t more of the same. Time has been good to this underrated flick. And the fan base only gets bigger and bigger.
It's sort of between what he and Tommy Lee Wallace said... Halloween was already too big to pivot. The idea and execution were incredible though. Yablans should've threw more support behind the picture getting better marketing so fans knew what to expect. I bet he'd take credit today if he could. The film is becoming revered. It's not just a good, bad movie... It's become a genre classic in its own right.
I hope they one day do an official sequel to it. There is a fan film sequel titled "The Return of the Witch, it's not that good though, I felt they could've done it better, but still it's great to see many people having an imagination to what happens next after Dr Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) yells "Stop it!!!!!" at the end in the gas station scene.

Halloween 3 was an awesome break from the other Halloween movies with Jamie Lee Curtis and her brother Michael Myers a very pleasant surprise sitting in the movie theater and listening to people 😆
Yup, once it hit 7 million at the Box office it broke even. And essentially made 7 million in profit. Thats not including Homevideo and TV broadcast licenses.
Or merch. H3 has a cottage industry of officially licensed sawg. I just saw the 3 Don Post official Halloween 3 masks as oversized halloween pails at the comics shop.
It was considered a flop when the original Halloween made 70 million and Halloween 2 made 25 million. The third movie cost more money and made way less than the previous two. It's an issue of diminishing returns which is why it was seen as a flop at the time.
One of the truly great fright films of the actual Holiday. The story, the cast, and the effects, all work together to great suspense. Next to the original, definitely the best of the series.

However, when I got older, I decided to give it another chance and have loved it ever since. Imo, Season of the Witch is an underrated cult classic that deserves all the praise it gets.
A must watch around this time of year! An absolute classic! And that musical score is so good, got it on CD and vinyl. Everyone did a fantastic job on this film 10/10
I absolutely love the movie. The mistake was calling it Halloween 3, as the audience presumed Michael Myers would be in it ,and then immediately rejected it when they realized the movie had nothing to do with him. If they'd given it a different title, or just called it Season of the Witch, it might have had more success. It's a great story and is genuinely creepy. And Tom is right, in that we Irish people can be quite wicked under our cheer sometimes. 😜 But I can't imagine anyone wanting to hit him, he seems like a dear man.
This is my favorite part from the Halloween franchise. This was completely original. The person who said it was stupid not to use Michael Myers is kind of stupid himself. This has such an awesome feel to it...perfect movie for October.
As a young boy watching this film, I couldn’t get over Ellie’s character bringing lingerie on her trip. He was a total stranger, her father died three days before, and she still had boning on her mind! She came prepared!
My theory is Ellie’s was always A robot. She was sent to keep an eye on Tom Atkin’s character . She was there to find out how much he knew then make sure he fell right into their hands, and take care of him if everyone else failed.
This movie is freaking awesome in my opinion. Watch it on a Friday night like 11 pm or later. Living room, super dark with the volume super high. That intro music, and kicks off with a man running away from some human like robots in pitch dark. I think it was phenomenal. Very underrated.
So I was a Halloween fan from Day 1 & I saw SOTW when it opened & hated it for many years. Within the last decade, I've come to appreciate and really like it & enjoy watching it every year now.
I have ALWAYS Loved this movie since I was a kid in the 80's and saw it the 1st time on TV. I don't care what anyone says about this movie. I watch it every year in October close to the Holiday. 👍 🎃🎃🎃
Ive learned to put this film in perspective & enjoy it for what it is regardless of the title. Takes nothing away from the previous & future films. Maybe im just older and not the eccentric kid i once was. Life is good at 40 lol
I loved 'Halloween III: Season of the Witch' right from the start when I first saw it either on cable or as a VHS rental (since I was too young at the time to have seen it in movie theatres) and at no point did I ever whine that Michael Myers wasn't back. That never even occurred to me because the movie was entertaining, creepy, and suspenseful all by itself. The Halloween standalone idea was a brilliant concept and it's a pity in a way that only one attempt was made and instead we had numerous Michael Myers movies of varying quality.

After seeing this movie so many times, now I love it! It's a great film! I hated it all for the very wrong reasons.
The Halloween Warrior come on just cause it doesn’t have michael in it doesn’t mean it sucks
@@raven7146 Actually after watching this Halloween 3 movie so many times I now love it, it really grew on me the more I watched it, it's really good and perfectly executed. I love this movie so much now that I now prefer it over H20, Resurrection, both Rob Zombie garbage films, and that garbage Halloween 2018 movie.
I saw it when I was 11 and still one of my favorites 🧟♂️
Mmm
I love Halloween III. Have been fascinated with it since I was a child when it was released on home video. I watch it every year as soon as I wake up on Halloween morning to set up the day. They did a great job on the blu ray, such a great picture.
Tom Atkins was great to watch. Loved him in Night of the Creeps.
Ah yes, Night Of The Creeps was a good film.... 👍👍
@Russell Collier Thrill me.
He has called that the favorite of his roles, if I'm not mistaken. I loved that he referenced it in this video with his "classic story, Spanky" remark. :)
It's Miller time lol. Tom Atkins has no equal in his delivery.
Holy shit, Stacy still looks fantastic!
9:03
I was thinking the same thing. I havent seen her in ANYTHING except this movie, and I know she was supposed to be in Blade Runner but got written out. I remember that in his review for the movie, Roger Ebert was quite captivated by her performance.
11:51
Im sure he did, based on that pic 🤣🤣🤣
The soundtrack for this movie was masterful. Maybe the best horror movie soundtrack ever! Awesome film.
Some other Carpenter scored film music is great too.
That music sounds so evil
Irwin Yablans, you lack vision. As do the majority of people at the time that spat at this film just because it wasn’t more of the same. Time has been good to this underrated flick. And the fan base only gets bigger and bigger.
Agreed!!
Calling a Halloween 3 documentary 'Stand Alone' is clever.
I’ve always liked Halloween 3 as a stand-alone movie.
I admit that I have an appreciation for this film. It is weird, bizarre, and totally creepy, which makes it a good horror movie. And it is way better than most of the other Halloween films. If nothing else, you WILL remember the Silver Shamrock jingle. Pure genius!
"And.........happy Halloween!" One of my favorite movies of the franchise. Been a fan of Stacey Nelkn since the 80s.
Next to the first Halloween, this was the best sequel. I think the anthology idea was a good idea instead of rehashing the same bullshit over and over again
You know what's wild? Friday the 13th was also intended to be an anthology of self-contained stories. Imagine if both these franchises had followed through with that intention!
100% agree
Ya that would have been awesome if they made a new Halloween every 3 years with a completely new story and characters. They could have had endless possibilities with that formula.
@@z-beeblebroxFriday the 13th and Nightmare both had anthology t.v. series. Nightmare was the better one because you always had Freddy introducing each episode.
SEEN THIS OPENING WEEKEND AND STILL LOVE IT TO THIS DAY! CREEEPY ERRRRRRIE ATMOSPHERIC LIKE NONE OTHER!
This was my favorite horror movie for many years. Scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
Justin Németi same here!!
I don’t care what anyone says...this is a fun movie!
It sure is indeed! It's way better than many Michael Myers movies for sure, it's most certainly better than Halloween 5, H20, Resurrection, Both Rob Zombie garbage films, and that piece of shit garbage Halloween 2018 film.
It definitely did have that Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets H.P. Lovecraft kind of vibe.
The scene with the lady and the face... fucking gave my 10 y/o mind nightmares.
I loved it.
The Halloween Warrior agree with all that except h20. H20 was a phenomenal movie. Also 2018 wasn’t that bad but it could have been better. Halloween 4 and on were all terrible except h20.
It sure is I just wish we would've got a chance to see how it all ended in season of the witch 2 but since the first one got bad reviews they decided to trash the sequel and bring Michael back in 88 6 years later after 3 came out in 82
Always reminds me of my time as a kid. I will always love this film.
I remember as a teenager I fell asleep with the tv on one night and woke up to the scene where the kid had the pumpkin on his head and it freaked me the f*** out. I carried on watching until the unsettling ending with the creepy jingle playing over and over and the dude screaming for it to stop...I literally slept with the covers over my head. Years later I decided to watch it all the way through and now it's like a guilty pleasure for this time of year 🎃🎃
Captured the feeling of Halloween perfectly
"You don't really know much about Halloween" (Conal Cochran)
I'm sorry that it took you so long to find your happiness and love with this film guys.
A staple in our house for October! We love Halloween III!
My wife was like, "If he wasn't busy cheating on his wife he might have saved those kids." Lol, we absolutely love this movie.
His wife face got mangled something fierce
That first guy that spoke in the video says "Not having Michael Meyers in it was a stupid idea" , .. . but no, I think it was really the MOVIE GOING MASS PUBLIC who DEMANDED that he be in it that was STUPID, not that decision on the part of the filmmakers.
The older I get the more I see that mainstream movie goers fuel mediocre boring movies every bit as much as Hollywood.
@@ezekielglenn5009 Of course they do. Hollywood gives them what they want.
@@CelestialWoodway point taken
The problem is once they did 2 films with Michael he was expected
@@boomstickcritique902 Your completely correct. If they wanted to do a different type of Halloween movie every year, which in hindsight its a clever idea, they never should have had Michael Myers in the 2nd movie.
Halloween 3 was an awesome break from the other Halloween movies with Jamie Lee Curtis and her brother Michael Myers a very pleasant surprise sitting in the movie theater and listening to people 😆
2.5M budget. 14.4M at the box office. That's a huge financial success!
Yeah I never understood why people called it a flop. It definitely not a flop and this movie competed with “Creepshow”
Seen this movie so many times. Absolutely love it and will defend it. Got meet Tom Atkins and got auto and a pic with my son, always be treasured.
It's crazy how many people have come out of the woodwork to defend this film since the dawn of the internet age. Finding someone back in the day who realized how good this film was was like finding gold.
Halloween 3 is a Magnificent Film, With fantastic horror ideas, What the hell do critics know!
mcbrando-Apparently, not much when it comes to fandom.Remember they thought The Last Jedi was a great movie!END OF STORY.
@@manbehindthemask2010 Didn't see last Jedi, don't intend to, I would never watch "Star Wars" after the Phantom menace, An absolute disaster with miss cast actors.
@special ned Who is 'so wrong'? Who are you talking to??
Totally agree with you. Brilliant film.
this was better than some of the other ones and i bet a lot of people agree with me
@Michael Halloween 3 isn't better then 4, but i will agree on 5, 5 was horrible and the characters especially Tina were annoying as fuck, when michael killed her i didn't feel bad for her at all. Halloween 3 is a good movie on it's own though, i used to hate it for the same reason most people do, watching it again i've kinda grown to like it. oh and i'd put this one over resurrection and rob zombie's any day, those ones sucked.
I love Halloween III. Unlike most people, I thought it was cool that it was a completely different story. I think the anthology idea was brilliant.
I agree. Much better than that h20 trash or robs trash or the 2018 trash
@@AbbaLeStrange Halloween III is 100 times better than 4. What are you on?
I completely agree with you, anything after H3 was complete and total garbage.
I love Halloween and Halloween lll The story, the actors and the music for both are perfect! This movie should of done way better than what it did when it was released. People just didn't get and that's a shame. I get it and will defend it as being one of the best horror movies ever made.
Tommy Lee Wallace, if you are reading this I will tell you, for me, this movie is one of my top 5 movies of all time. The plot, the way it is shot, the mystery and the soundtrack all blend together so well. Very unique film.
I hold it near and dear to my heart. It never gets old.
Hallowe'en and Hallowe'en III are the only ones worth watching
I really enjoy this movie! Music score is awesome!!!
To me Halloween III is so good that it really feels like a true Halloween movie with the content and explores the origin of Halloween and the Masks! I enjoy watching it especially every Halloween!
Avery cool and sick stand alone.Grossly underrated.
FANTASTIC making of!!! I've LOVED H3 season of the witch since i was a little kid & watched it on old vhs & it scared the crap outta me lol it's since become my favourite Horror movie of all time yes my NO.1 fave Horror film!!! It's a TRUE cult classic with excellent moody music & cinematography that's stunning & a full of dread atmosphere with a fantastic cast especially my hero the legendary TOM ATKINS in his greatest role of his career as Dan Challis!!! I'm just so happy this movie got made & exists & to me is the best of the franchise!!! H3 is also in my top 5 fave movies of all time!!! Major love for this underrated classic
Really enjoyed watching this movie. It was different and had a dark side to it. The music score was fantastic. A very underrated film that was just a joy to watch. Thanks for posting.
I really like this movie, i even saw it in the movie theatre and im proud of it.
One of the most underrated movies of all time. First DVD I ever bought. Some of the most creative death scenes of any movie ever. I still remember the creepy vhs case for this film.
I'd love to see a sequel to this or a remake. You could just call It Season of the Witch 2
Most underrated movies of all time? That’s a massive stretch. It was a good 80s campy horror movie and that’s it.
The TV jingle still gives me the creeps. I think this is the best film of the franchise.
One of the best soundtracks of the entire 80's. This film and Christine have wonderful music, thanks to Carpenter.
Like many others, when I first saw Halloween III as a kid, I was confused and upset because Michael was nowhere to be found. However, when I got older, I decided to give it another chance and have loved it ever since. Imo, Season of the Witch is an underrated cult classic that deserves all the praise it gets.
Just watched it again earlier today. Still as good as ever.
I saw this on cable back in the early 80's. I always enjoyed it and watch it every Halloween. Great fun! Thanks for posting this vid.
Halloween 3 is my second favourite movie of the series
A must watch around this time of year! An absolute classic! And that musical score is so good, got it on CD and vinyl. Everyone did a fantastic job on this film 10/10
Stacey Nelkin is still gorgeous!
She’s so fine, bruh.
As much as I loved Halloween 1 & 2, this is still my favorite one. The story, the music, the pure evil of it is top notch.
He is in it though... Briefly...
It should have been called Halloween season of the witch an no 3.
ch'j djkd 22nd
STOP IT!
STOP IT!
STOP IT!
STOP IT!
All time classic ending
This is my favorite part from the Halloween franchise. This was completely original. The person who said it was stupid not to use Michael Myers is kind of stupid himself. This has such an awesome feel to it...perfect movie for October.
Great film....has not only grown on me over the years, but is now a staple of my Halloween experience. Love it!
the BEST in the franchise
atmospheric
creepy
dark synth eerie music
nightmare
ending
No predictability
ROFL Fucking youtube comments. Never cease to amaze me.
agree
As a young boy watching this film, I couldn’t get over Ellie’s character bringing lingerie on her trip. He was a total stranger, her father died three days before, and she still had boning on her mind! She came prepared!
My theory is Ellie’s was always A robot. She was sent to keep an eye on Tom Atkin’s character . She was there to find out how much he knew then make sure he fell right into their hands, and take care of him if everyone else failed.
@@kendane2001 Once he ''sent it in'', his junk would have gotten mangled. Thats when he would have found out.
He had Jamie Lee's character in ''The Fog'' too, and she was a hitchhiker.
When they brought back Michael Meyers every movie stunk since l always liked this one Best
*Not just my favorite 'Halloween' film but my favorite film to watch ON Halloween every year
Thanks to the soundtrack, we got the greatest trailer of all time, Maximum Overdrive. One great film inspiring another great film.
I agree, I did the same. Carpenter wanted different stories for Halloween, besides Myers.
I wish this movie and Docu would get a Blu Ray release in Britain I'd purchase it right away
It has one.
Michael Myers does actually appear in the film along with Jamie Lee Curtis if only for a second or two!!
Yes Halloween plays on TV. Fun fact: Curtis has a role in H3, anyone knows which ?
@@unknownfreak3843 She's the telephone operator when Tom Atkins tries dialing out of Santa Mira, and she's the voice over the loudspeakers announcing the curfew time.
Stacey Nelkin is still gorgeous.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I'm 48 and still love it!!!
I watch it every Halloween. It was creepy. And I love the masks.
You know the best part of these making of features is to hear these working actor talk about how excited they were to get the leads The Halloween films have been blessed with great talent in front and behind the camera.
Love this movie and even today, I flinch When I see someone in a mask.
I’ve also thought about a follow on movie from H3. Maybe more of a prequel really, about the events leading up to Harry Grimbridge uncovering Cochran’s plot and him escaping from the factory - leading straight into H3....
