  • So many women develop feelings of harming their child after childbirth.
Yet, despite the prevalence of this mental health crisis, society often fails to provide the necessary support and understanding. Instead, we expect new mothers to bask in the glow of motherhood, ignoring the complex emotional turmoil they may be experiencing.
"Everyone expects that when you have a baby, you should be happy, but for me, I started crying. Sometimes, you start laughing hysterically without cause, and even when not in pain, you just want to cry. You're sad, you're angry."
"When I had my first baby, I was angry. Sometimes my child would be crying, and I would feel angry. I skipped a whole year of school because I felt I didn't want to interact with people. The worst part was that I didn't notice what was happening to me until other people started noticing. I became worried when I couldn't bond with my baby anymore; that's when I sought therapy."
In this episode of DipChat, we had a deep conversation with a mental health care provider and founder of Mental Health with Diddy.
We discussed postpartum depression and baby blues-the differences between the
two, symptoms, and how to heal from them.
