Hello, I really appreciated your video! I just wish I had watched it before we pruned out 4 year old cherry tree in our front yard. Yesterday (October 9) we trimmed long shoots growing upwards from the tree. We did this because it made the look of the tree too straggly. Well then I kept trimming - and now I'm worried I pruned to many shoots. I also trimmed several stalks - with no leaves - that were growing out from the center top of the tree. They looked weird from our street - to see a 1/2 inch diameter bare branch growing straight up. That's probably because we trimmed this tree last year the same way. But we trimmed it later in the fall. We worry disease will get in our tree- but we might be okay because we have cool fall temperatures now. I just hope we get blossoms in the spring- since we didn't get any this past Spring. Any insight you can provide re the state of our tree would be great. 🙂Thank you again!

@@GardeningatDouentza also if I may trouble you I had questions about how to best care for my starter cherry blossom tree. It’s only about 7 or so inches tall and has a few leaves. I put it in a new pot with fresh dirt and some healthy mineral soil and watered it however I am uncertain as to how much water I should use and if it’s getting enough sunlight. Here and now the sun is receding due to season and I intend to keep it indoors all winter until it’s better established. Anything you would recommend?

Do you have any resources or suggestions on pruning a mature weeping ornamental cherry? I can’t seem to find a good video on this topic and my tree tends to give me headaches every year.

This video isn't about radical pruning of cherry blossoms, which I have seen done (mostly brutally) by municipalities and I would not recommend. With weeping cherries, I have found that the pruning of the ends of weeping branches (Because they trail on the ground) can cause excessive regrowth from that point so it is probably best to remove full branches to avoid this. Hope this helps.

@@GardeningatDouentza Yes, that’s what I’ve found too. I end up removing such large pieces every year and it feels wrong, but it grows so much, so quickly that there doesn’t seem to be any other way 🤷‍♀️

So no pruning/cutting back when not in leaf?
