Radiohead is one of the only group (or Thom Yorke) that I can listen to constantly. Never gets old and I often discover new meanings, new details in each song. Truly a gift to music.
Just saw the entire video. Its cool how that is also the way that the band hears it. I am a drummer and i have a pretty big talent for rhythm like a natural talent, but had a hard time hearing this other beat to the song although i think i get where he was coming from. And its cool also hearing the very hidden metronome in the ending of the videotape studio version!
It hurts not to have anybody in my life that shares the same feelings as me about this guy's voice, lyrics, melody.... "it's too much, too bright, too powerful" I just wish someone around me would enjoy as much as me...
I feel the same way... All my friends (teenagers) dislike the music I like. Radiohead is my favorite band, and I show them beautiful songs like All I Need, How To Disappear Completely, and others, but they just can't appreciate anything other than the generic pop and rock music on the radio.
Dalton Messmer Ssdly it will remain like that for the rest of your life!! Most people only enjoy what is being presented to them, easy access on radio and most likely you listen to it in the car or while doing homework or such while music like Radiohead, you need to be sitting down and paying attention to really enjoy it..
Yes, sadly few people have much appreciation for art and many people are very easily pleased when it comes to music. All people want are some little tunes to tap their foot to and don't require any thinking. They don't really care about inspiration, creativity, or talent. These things are shunned as "weird" and they don't care to take a little time to appreciate them. :( (end of rant)
But hopefully things will change... Every decade, the music changes, so maybe some of the future changes will be for the better. Btw, I read that Radiohead is currently in the studio recording a new album! So that's something to be excited about. :)
Dalton Messmer Yes I got really excited about that!! Only thing that worries me is I wasn't a big fan of King of limbs.. was a distant album to me, didn't exploit Thom's capacity to be melodic with his voice , seems just to electronic like if now he is more interested in that kind of music making. But eh, there is still Codex, Ghost that are excellent but dunno:( I don't excpect them to be doing stuff like Ok Computer, theres limits lol but maybe something more melodic and less distant than King of Limbs.
Now having a very weird time in life, music gives relief more than anything. Thom has always been so close, don't think he even realizes how important he is for so many people. It is as if he were singing for universal grief, reversing everything.
He’s in the moment and he’s eternal - that’s rare - of course his music holds grief, floats upon the ocean of collective d as sorrow, he is giving us permission to be alive, to know who we are, and a balm for when we do it, a balm when we wake up and dutifully keep our eyes open. You can’t see thom if your eyes aren’t open, if your eyes are open you have thom.
The chords to videotape aren't in tempo they are syncopated and off-beat, that's one metronome for the imaginary beat that the chords create on their own. Then there's the second for the pedal he's stepping to create the "offbeat" in which the song actually is. And I believe the third one would be the other eighth note he plays right after the first step, but I'm not sure I could cound that as another metronome. Not all metronome's would be syncopated tho, but I got what he meant. There's a very cool video explaining all this called the hidden tempo of Videotape, you should check it out for further explanation.
When he first starts humming at the end of Analyse it sounds so much like cello, it’s unbelievable. Like he shapeshifted into one for a second. So rad.
Thought exactly the same, the silence absolutely adds so much and makes it even better. The whole vibe of this would be very different without the silence.
Imagine being at a festival, radiohead closing down a certain day so the whole 30k festival right there.. him playing solo true love waits and no one made a fckn sound during and after until the lights went back on, theres nothing more intense then getting so many (drunk) people to stfu. I will forever remember that moment, nothing will ever compare. Mass silence is the heaviest shit ever, you will start crying..

That actually gives away the syncopation of the song. Radiohead is always good at hiding the off-beat. The piano doesn't fall on *one*, *two*, *three*, *four*, it's actually on the 16th note just before it, so it goes "one e and *a*, two e and *a*, three e and *a*, four e and *a*". The same rhythm as Bodysnatchers.
Obviously. But still, i find it pretty recurrent in his electronic work especially, it just felt good to feel this again in a Radiohead song. Going back in time.
Ummm I'm not sure how to take that. I'm just in awe by him, but I actually wrote a song about a month ago after listening to entire one of their albums. So he certainly does inspire me.
Haha I know what you mean, like its so sad you feel like you will never get another response so intense to a piece of music as long as you live. However I love those moments, because I'm constantly looking for them. Even though you feel like "this is it, nothing will ever top this" something always does and it's so great every time :)
No matter what happens now I won't be afraid Because I know today has been The most perfect day I've ever seen I love this version of the verse. (On the album, he says "I shouldn't be afraid")
Whenever I think my Radiohead phase is dying down it makes a full comeback after listening to one song. Putting up a no smoking sign, but Thom is already on fire
Videotape, as he's playing it here, is the first and only whole song I learned how to play on paino. Before that I had learned how to play beethoven fur elise but just the right hand part for the beginning, I couldn't grasp how to use both hands, just couldn't, so I just played the shit out of that right handed bit for fun. I heard this for the first time and it did something to me, very emotional. I looked up youtube stuff and figured out how to do it and I would sit at the piano for hours, I finally got it down and just made it mine. I'd play it any chance I got when I was feeling really out of touch and hopeless, and it made me feel better. I haven't been around a piano for a few years now but because of this I can do both hands and hopefully I'll be able to learn fur elise. I'd love to actually learn piano. I wish I had one now. I love this song, so much.
Sometimes unwanted pianos are listed online on Craigslist, but otherwise maybe a decent keyboard would do the trick. My dad and his girlfriend are moving house soon, and they don't have space for their piano, so it might be coming to my house :)!
It is a delight to hear Thom's voice. He plays with such intensity and feeling that he reaches deep inside. At this stage of maturity you can see how he has evolved and together with his creativity they make him one of the greats.
It is very difficult to play this rhythm at the piano while singing at the same time. Try it yourself. This makes the solo performance in the video brilliant in my opinion. In fact, the same is true for Videotape and Last flower.
My mom refuses to listen to anything Thom Yorke sings. She says his voice haunts her and she is unable to sleep. It’s frustrating. Thom’s voice is the closest feeling I can imagine to what heaven feels like.
No,he's just a great mucisian, don't think of him as a super god mad who made a new genre because he just made music on how he felt what was appropriate for him
Certainly, I can't be the only one here who is absolutely in love with this beautiful soul. The whole idea of being one with all is so exciting when I am being one with Thom Yorke.
I love how after every song he scratches his head and looks around as if he's awoken from some sort of a trance that his music has put him into. He's so engrossed in what he's playing, makes me think of those lyrics from How to Disappear Completely....gah. Thom Yorke you never cease to amaze me

@@crystalmanning4953 I wasn't a fan of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, but it was nice to see him return to form with Anima and follow in Jonny's footsteps of scoring films with the Suspiria soundtrack.

@yourlittleplantbasedglitch I can thank my dad for that. There was a point where he had told us the best band was Radiohead was the best band, and I would say "sure dad." Now, I couldn't agree more haha.
Just wow....i feel connected...the music which connects you to your soul is the real music...and this composition is one of them...and that's just for me at this moment...others may feel this way with some other music..and may be i would also feel like that someday but not today...today am connected with you Thom.
Wow. Simply & perfectly beautiful! Thank-you so much for sharing! Thom's & Radiohead's extraordinary compositions (especially live), are so profound to me. They honestly touch me in a way-that I'm left speechless-due to inspirational respect-as I'm a musician, but this particular upload really hit an emotional sweet spot. Not once, but twice during this recording, I was literally brought to tears. Not sure if it was merely the performance, or that + where I am in my life. Irregardless, Stunning!
Thank you for sharing.... This is one of my favourites on you tube...The guy is sheer genius... he is on a different planet to most.... Engrossing..... no one compares......
Yeah by making it so depressed it kills itself for that's just the self destructive personality cancer has. In human psyche self destruction in its correct context is our consciousness trying to kill a part of ourselves that is hurting or holding us back from realizing our true selves.
He is not only focused in the song, he is immersed in a special feeling... and his songs makes me want to immerse in my own feelings... that special connection thats makes you feel werd and good at the same time... Unique Thom Yorke... Unique...
There are certain things I wish I was blessed and better with, I'm not sure being thom yorke would be my priority, i can't put myself in his place, but on face value, it would be probably the better to my life. To watch and listen to this over, is a beauty and a blessing that I praise thanks to whomever, I don't take note, I just listen .
Having just listened to the studio version of Analyse for the first time in a while I've realised that the version here has completely replaced it in my mind
So weird, I was just randomly listening to this tape here, and then Radiohead released the official version of this tape like 27 minutes ago. It is Thursday, April 15, 2021

The Eraser is highly underrated.
Ceili Jane so is tomorrows modern boxes
@@crystalmanning4953 I wasn't a fan of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, but it was nice to see him return to form with Anima and follow in Jonny's footsteps of scoring films with the Suspiria soundtrack.
My dad first played me The Eraser when I was 3 or 4. These songs have been ingrained into my childhood because of him. Still my favorite Thom Yorke album so far!
@yourlittleplantbasedglitch I can thank my dad for that. There was a point where he had told us the best band was Radiohead was the best band, and I would say "sure dad." Now, I couldn't agree more haha.
yeah cuz down is the new up !
Your voice releases thoughts, memories and emotions from within that can not be dealt with but we continue to Listen... Thank you for all
This is one for the good days....
Just wow....i feel connected...the music which connects you to your soul is the real music...and this composition is one of them...and that's just for me at this moment...others may feel this way with some other music..and may be i would also feel like that someday but not today...today am connected with you Thom.
There is no one bigger than Thom Yorke, respect is not enough.
Analyse... the best live performance of any song I've seen
For about 21 years of my life, his voice has always been in my head. Radiohead in my heart.
THIS gives my life a special meaning!
Thank you for sharing.... This is one of my favourites on you tube...The guy is sheer genius...
he is on a different planet to most.... Engrossing..... no one compares......
I'm pretty sure Thom's voice can cure cancer.
Great comment.
Yeah by making it so depressed it kills itself for that's just the self destructive personality cancer has. In human psyche self destruction in its correct context is our consciousness trying to kill a part of ourselves that is hurting or holding us back from realizing our true selves.
@@rabidwolf i enjoyed reading your comment. something to think about
He is not only focused in the song, he is immersed in a special feeling... and his songs makes me want to immerse in my own feelings... that special connection thats makes you feel werd and good at the same time... Unique Thom Yorke... Unique...
i particularly love "down is the new up" here, beside it's an awesome song i love thom's timing
This is love, this is art :)
Breath taking performances.
If god were an artist, I'd still be listening to thom's music.
No sense comment.
@@glasp1 lol, true.
Having just listened to the studio version of Analyse for the first time in a while I've realised that the version here has completely replaced it in my mind
Last Flowers
Barbara Oña the best song!!
😍
in rainbows is such a perfect album man, it deserves more love.
So weird, I was just randomly listening to this tape here, and then Radiohead released the official version of this tape like 27 minutes ago. It is Thursday, April 15, 2021
There is so much soul in his playing and singing.
«You travelled far
What have you found?
That there’s no time
There’s no time
To analyse»
I like the flow that he keeps in these songs. It's hard when playing piano and singing alone. He executes this really well
La música de Thom es algo que necesitamos.
como.. el masoquismo al corazón, caricia al alma, consuelo.
Dolor. Paz y caos.
Traduziu perfeitamente....esse é o sentimento de sua música.....
Thank you for sharing ! From the basement ! The best quality and so "live"
Sometimes I'm afraid to put on a really good pair of headphones and listen to Thom and slip off into the unknown and never wake up. That's how powerful it is. Like this is it. I'm dieing. I think I'm dieing.
