So it turns out that the autofocus thing has nothing to do with the lamp, but rather with the camera's settings. Thankfully, many other people have had this same issue, so there is a wealth of solutions outlined here on YT. Already changed the settings in my camera so that hopefully the next video looks better.
I appreciate the fact that your game room is an adult version of a game room. Not one of those that is like "I've covered every inch of the wall with every video game possible, in which case I haven't played 95%"
This feels like the year of the PC Engine. With the release of the mini, and the announcement of the Duo, it's NEC's turn! I've been on a tear using up some accrued paypal funds and trying to finish my subcollection of PC Engine shooters. I'm into the grey area of games that are like shooters but nor really. I also don't have genuine hucards for magical, coryoon, or tatsujin. Keep up the good work.
there is also a perfect PC Engine/CD/Supergrafx core for MiSTer, as of a couple months ago. We discovered new things about the internal workings that haven't been known until 2020, like the "correct" palette (It turns out the RGB values commonly used by original hardware mods even, has been incorrect!) The year of PC Engine, indeed.
I'm a sucker for PCE/TG16 vids! I bought a Duo off of Yahoo Japan years ago, only had a couple of games, it broke down, and I sold it for parts (just too expensive to send it to the US, get it serviced, and have it mailed back). I've got to give it up where due; you got me into bithead, and so, the bithead1000 video you mentioned at the beginning when he got the briefcase was the video that got me pumped to try having/experiencing the PCE again which I watched last year when going through his older stuff. Learning about games like Nexzr, Macross 2036 and Kiaidan 00 got me into putting together a small collection of PCE CD games and a PCE Duo that I go back to regularly, so I'm grateful for videos like these that pointed me to a library I may not have otherwise discovered (and hopefully other people have as well).
Final Soldier is outstanding and another game championed by BitHead. Great episode! I, like you, am a fan of the hucard format. It baffles my mind that while I was blowing on NES cartridges as a kid, there were kids in Japan out these credit card sized wonders into their PC Engines. Also, damn, prices are really going up. I paid $30 for my copy of Final Soldier at a local shop in Santa Cruz back in May 2019. PS: Don’t forget Detanna Twinbee, the FIFTH Konami PC Engine shooter and also a HuCard.
Love listening about the PCE. I will check out Final Soldier thanks. I need to learn how to play shooters as I enjoy them even tho I’m not very good. The analogue system I will get hold of as I love the Mega Sg and Super NT. I also enjoy old sports games a lot.

Amazing selection of PC Engine shooters you picked up. All the Soldier Games are awesome, sure Final Soldier Soldier is the easier game but it's my favourite game for playing the 2 Minute Caravan mode. Great Episode 👍
Love how you describe unboxing to get to Soldier Blade. Always wanted a PC Engine. May get one one day. Extremely happy for you Always love your videos. Your passion truly shows. Continue to do what you do. I’m 47 and are a lot like you. It takes something big to get me exited.
Heya mate, never seen this channel before, weird :) I’m also a huge PC Engine fan and lusted after it as a kid when the white PC Engine was covered in UK magazines back in early 88’ (I’m 42 now...) Nice pick-up on Soldier Blade btw. I can’t believe how much that has shot up in price, I got it for back in 93 for Christmas. The PCE was pretty big in the UK for importers, no official realise obviously but indie-importers were pretty common in the UK back in the 90’s. Good luck with your Solder Blade 1CC. I have loads of PCE shooter replays completed with 1-Life on my channel played on real hardware and I have a 1-Life clear on HARD difficulty of Soldier Blade if you want some tips. Tbh, Normal mode is pretty easy, but hard mode is a real challenge.
The Spark seems like a pretty good deal. It's great to see so many solutions coming out for that type of stuff these days -- plug-in replacements for hardware mods and whatnot. Hit Japan has been accused of bidding up their own items. People looked at the recent activity of people who were currently bidding and found a lot of 100%, but then again, a lot of people pre-virus would buy a lot at once to save on shipping. It is still suspicious, given how often it happens. They sold me a Saturn once that didn't work, but it turned out that a roach shell had gotten lodged near the open button and was causing a connection issue. Prior to spotting it, they just told me to take it to someone who repairs them, which is impossible since no one around here bought Saturns when they were on store shelves.
Those are my favorite videos from Mr Bithead as well. The Pc engine music episode as well. Oh, and core Grafx systems do have stereo out from the av port. Only mono if the stock plug is used for cd audio. Cd audio has to come out of the dock. So maybe since the sd system 3 attaches to the rear, it causes Mono audio to come out of the stock AV port.
Would love you to show off your full PC Engine collection! I loved how Bithead used the format of what I paid vs. market value. What's your most expensive game?
Got the TG16 mini & first time for me playing TG16/PC engine games & I can't get enough, especially the shooters. I'm really into learning more about this the system’s history & it’s games.
Looks like we're of a very similar mindset regarding PCE stuff. I've also picked up quite a few new cards over the last couple of weeks for pretty much the same reason. The $100 and below when it comes to picking up new old stock is also a rule that I tend to follow with very few exceptions.
currently using the Coregrafx on a CRT. have the CD add on so cant use the Booster unfortunately to get the most of it. Lots of great shoot em ups on the console! 💕
I Love TG/PCE content for reasons very similar to what you mentioned, I was way deep into Genesis & Super Nintendo and sort of everyone ignored TG here during that time, very underrated system imo
Funny you mention the situation with buying things from Japan via eBay right now... I had just bought something (don’t recall if it was from hit-japan or not) and it took a good two months to show up. That was of course without any kind of tracking. Sometimes you get lucky and they’ll ship it via DHL or something, but if Japan Post is all they’ll use, good luck.
I played through Soldier Blade for the first time last weekend on recommendation from shmup junkie. Have you seen his Chanel? It's hilarious and informative. Soldier Blade has amazing music and it does get hard toward the end. I feel like the game really gets going at "operation 4."
No shame in wanting to own an entire run of sports games on a console - I've got Madden 2001-2008 for PS2 and am likely to finish out the run of games for that system. I like the idea of having the entire collection, as trivial and dispensable older sports games tend to be. It's just fun to point to a shelf and see the entire series of games for a console, despite not being much of a game collector otherwise.
I enjoyed this one cause like the ps1 pc-engine has so many games you always discover something you weren’t aware existed. I’ve bought from hit-Japan over the years and never had issues. Usually went to him no other seller has it. Maybe id get a game that was slightly beatup from time to time but still better condition that most domestic sellers. Got some really good deals on pc-engine cd games from him and he threw in one of his tote bags. If your looking for harder to find stuff I would recommend zenmarket, I’ve gotten some really good deals there through yahoo Japan even with fees.
I think the reason Image Fight is not as expensive is the fact there is a great version of that game for the Sega Saturn (W/X Multiply). I bought the Saturn one instead
I really enjoy playing the PC Engine games. If it wasn't for Retropie I never would have discovered these great games. I'm not sure I'll ever buy the real thing due to how much money needed to invest, but it is great that the option is there! Just curious if anyone knows if the PC Engine plays better on like another small computer device compared to the Raspberry Pi 3 which is what I have? It just feels like there is a slight delay in the controls and maybe another option is out there that would decrease the latency?
been shopping from various japanese ebay sellers for many years, including hit-japan. hj has always been on the pricier side, so maybe that's where they get their "notoriety" from, but I've found some good deals in their store on occasion.
Man Japan post right now is brutal. I've been waiting two months for a couple packages of stuff I got from Yahoo auctions over there. Still cost me like 60 bucks for a box that should have been 15 on the boat. And DHL, forget about it! They wanted almost 200 bucks 🤣. Sucks but I'm done with buying from Japan for a while. It's a good time to import a bunch of Gameboys too because everyone wants a portable right now.
Awesome vid as always! I used to have a bunch of HuCards, but I sold most of them off a few years ago after one went bad (Super Star Soldier; I actually spent more on contact cleaner than it would've cost me to get a new loose HuCard). Need to figure out how to open these and see if I can fix it, but not sure if that's possible without permanent cosmetic damage... Don't mean to jinx you, but have you had any problems?
I had one HuCard that I could never get to work, but it wasn't anything special so I didn't worry about it. I think it was Fire Pro Wrestling for the PCE. Other than that no problems, knock on wood.
