Oh man, I definitely got a Casio MT-100 in 1986, and hearing you talk about it brought back a hilarious memory. I was in third grade, so 1987-88 academic year, and my neighborhood friends and I started "writing" and "recording" our own songs. This was essentially just selecting one of the MT's automatic accompaniments and winging some lyrics over top while trying to make sure that quite possibly the cheapest dictation mic from the 1970s could pick up both the keyboard's speaker and our "singing."
Eventually, we started recording these "love songs" to this girl in my class that everyone was crushing on. We'd take the tapes to school and actually play them for her on my Walkman. However, being third grade boys, we obviously couldn't just walk up to her and say, "Hey, I made this song for you." So, if one of us had recorded a song for her, another of us would deliver it during school recess the next day. I remember when I'd take their songs to her, I'd say things like, "Oh, you won't believe what Brian did this time!" or "God, that Chris has a real winner for you, today!" She'd listen through the headphones and just shake her head at us the whole time, maybe chuckling at one of the more embarrassing lines.

During the video and after, my wife and I were talking about how everything you were saying felt like all the things we talk about at Christmas, from the commercials and movies to the preferred type of Christmas music...even when your Christmas memories seem to start at around 7 as mine do. This is our first Christmas since moving away from all the relatives and everything we've known because we wanted something different somewhere different, so it's nice to take these walks down memory lane along with you; this video in particular has helped in getting some of that Christmas magic back.
Thanks for sharing these memories and your perspective with all of us, Chris; these videos feel like hanging out and telling stories, they have a warmth to them, and that's a rare thing. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Alaimo, my wife and I wish you all the best into the new year and beyond!

Took awhile but I finally got around to watching this episode. Great job as usual. Just wanted to let you know I have a son who is 16 months old and he NEVER sits still to watch anything...until he sat with me and happily watched this episode! In case you ever have anymore doubts about doing this channel, just know it brings joy to all ages! Keep up the good work!

On the topic of video game disasters... Back in 1994, there was a bug in the 3DO version of The Horde that would wipe out ALL of the saves on your system. Like, EVERY game save. I lost weeks and months of progress in games like Monster Manor, Star Control II, Alone In The Dark, Road Rash, etc. I was so infuriated that I sold the entire system a couple of days later. Worst part is I didn't even like or buy The Horde. It belonged to a friend that was showing me the game at my house. I didn't notice until he left that all of my saves were gone. I was crushed.

Abosolutely dug this episode bro. This brought back alot of childhood memories from school, to movies, commercials, shows, the malls, decorating and just memories period. I was born in 80 so I can relate to alot of what you were talking about. By no means was my family well off, but my parents created alot of great Christmas for my brother and I. I gotta say my 3 most memorable Christmas' was whenever we got a console. First was when I got the NES that came with the triple cartridge, the Zapper and the Power Pad along with Punch Out (the version without Mike Tyson, RC Pro Am, Skate or Die, Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers and WWF Wrestlemania. Next one was when I received a SNES with Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2 and Madden 93. Lastly was when I got a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Man, what times. I could literally go on and on about traditions and memories, but you hit alot of stuff on the nose. I've been a fan for a while now of both channels and hope you decide to continue doing the show for a long time. You get me through alot of days of work at this boring ass desk and CGQ+ is the ultimate nostalgia ride...the best means of time travel since the DMC Deloreon and Bill & Ted's phone booth. Peace from Philly!

Literally Christmas in July for me. I'm settled in tonight watching this
video and reminiscing. Thinking of all of my past gaming experiences
and holidays spent with friends and family as well as just every day life as a kid growing up through the years. This is great entertainment!
Thank you for all of the hard work that you've put in to bringing us this
great content. I've been binge watching your videos on this channel and have really enjoyed it all. I'm a bit older than you but we grew up in pretty much the same era so hearing you talk about your experiences growing up really reminds me of my childhood too LOL! I was lucky enough to have the first Pong game when it came out and the first Atari 2600, the first NES, the first SNES and so on. Video games have been a really big part of my life and I'm proud to say that they are a big part of my son's life as well. Games have kind of been a glue that have bonded relationships. Ok, I've said more than I intended to, but again, thanks for everything and keep the great content coming. I've really enjoyed it.

@@CGQPlus Not going to go too deep into my life here Chris, but I grew up with a stepdad who didn't like me at all. As a kid, I worked hard and mowed lawns and worked on a farm during the summers. I was thankfully able to make enough money to buy my own video games and comic books and I also loved Mad Magazine lol! One of my favorite ones was the Star Wars one. Don't know if you've ever seen that one but if you ever get your hands on it I think you'd enjoy reading through it. I thankfully had the freedom to immerse myself into those things without a lot of hassle from my parents so I must say my childhood was not so bad. I found your channel here and it just really reminds me a lot of how I grew up so I have really been enjoying listening to your stories. I've been subscribed for several months now. Thanks much.

My mall has always been huge with it's Christmas decorations, they still use most of the same stuff from the 80s.
The family on my dad's side were heavy smokers in a house built in the 30's, so you can imagine nearly 70 years of smoke soaking into the wooden walls. I loved it though. Elf is a great movie, one of the few Christmas movies from the past 25 years that's worth watching.
Most of the elementary schools I attended had a combination gym/auditorium and cafeteria.

Merry Christmas to you and your wife, Chris!! This was an awesome video. A few things...
    1. I love the coco (or was it fruity?) pebbles commercial they play during this time of year. LOL
    2. I've never seen it's a wonderful life or miracle on 34th st either and don't want to. Don't seem like my kind of movies.
    3. My Christmas memories started early. I remember being about 3 or 4 and waking up in the middle of the night to find my mom putting presents under uber tree. That's when I figured out there was no Santa, but it was never a big deal to me.

Thanks so much for sharing what you do Chris, I know that it can't always be easy. I am not sure I got the Christmas spirit as much as you did during that 6th grade year. I know I certainly never decked out my desk at school the way you and Jonathan did. I know I've said this to you before, but for my wife and I...we feel like we've known you for many years and for different reasons. We can relate so much and I am going to guess your many loyal followers probably feel much the same way. I remember when I got Snake Mountain and Castle Grayskull back in the day and like you I used to watch He-Man and the Master's Of the Universe religiously as you once did. I was once a notorious 'peeker' of my gifts and my parents still give me crap about how even if I didn't peek I'd meticulously analyze the shape, size, weight to try to figure out what was inside. My mom always went crazy on decorations around the house and she still does. Figures outside; not the big inflatable kind but the sort of wooden things you get at craft fairs. Plates, cups (even the ones that are triggered by light to play X-mas music) its 100% X-mas all of the time. Glad you liked the Mug and we'll have to hear what you and your wife think of the coffee. Not to criticize, more of a FYI thing, Viroqua is pronounced Vir-oh-kwah. Thanks again...you're the best!

It's funny the memories that come flooding back with these videos. For example I think every elementary school that was built in the late sixties had a multi-purpose room and for many of them it also doubled as the cafeteria and the gymnasium. Anyhow, the only year in elementary school that we ever got a holiday pageant was when I was in the fourth grade and they brought in this "actor" who was the definition of the word unprofessional. The gist of it was that he was going to read to us Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and act out the parts, but this guy was so pompous that he kept stopping every couple of minutes to reprimand us kids for not paying him our full attention. I mean we were elementary school kids what did he really expect right? Anyhow they never tried that again! I also have vague memories of Christmas parties as well, although what was really cool about the last day of school before Christmas is as long as you didn't make a pestilence of yourself, you were allowed to roam the halls and visit all of your teachers from previous grades, because nobody was holding proper classes on that day anyhow. So you could dovetail into and out of different classrooms and go see your friends who might have been in a different class than you or a grade above/below you.
I have some memories along the same line of High School Christmastime. We obviously weren't having class parties by that time but at my high school, if you accumulated enough credits by your junior year you could apply for early dismissal and get out of school as early as eleven AM. So most days all of us who had early dismissal would beat it off campus ASAP, but on the last day of school before Christmas we all seemed to just want to hang out around school usually in the auditorium, just hanging out with your friends drinking sodas that we had snuck out of the staff cafeteria and shooting the bull. Anyhow thanks for the memories and Happy Holidays Chris.

I'm Italian, and even when I cook a new dish I don't use a recipe! I get an idea for what ingredients go into it and try to just balance what I put in to follow a flavor profile. But a recipe, naw we don't need no recipe guy.
Christmas tree Lane is still alive and kicking. The wife and I do the walk night ever year no matter what is happening. And at the end when the street starts to curve back to the main Street the last house is absolutely gaudy! They have a huge 120" billboard style tv that plays Christmas stuff. But it's still super cool every year.
It's stuff like this that makes me watch the videos. We're from the same area and did all the same stuff!

Those are non-existent , too, sadly. :( When did the main networks stop airing Saturday morning cartoons? I would watch, smurfs, scooby-doo, the snorks, silver hawks, thundercats, darkwing duck, rescue rangers, tail spin, duck tales, and so much more! You should do a cartoon episode! We certainly born at the right time with these awesome cartoons and the best game systems of all time.

Chris, if you haven't found Christmas Crunch yet, I found it at Walmart. I bought my first box of it thus year and saved the box when I finished it.

It sounds like we had the same Databank watch. Instead of individual keys, the entire keyboard was flat. Watch was black with black plastic band.

I think this is the first time I’ve heard someone defend Die Hard 2. I’ve always liked it and had to face ridicule for it. Lol. One person has even told me how being confined in an air plane makes for a bad movie setting which is why he didn’t like Air Force One (which I love) and I had to remind him it’s Holly up in the plane. McClane was on the ground!

Hey I love your content. I am wondering, you are one of the few gaming youtubers that include a shot of the microphone whenever you are speaking. Why do you include the microphone in the shot at all? Happy holidays and I hope you have a great 2019

    • @CGQPlus
      @CGQPlus  5 років тому +1

That type of microphone needs to be within about 12 inches of the speaker's voice in order to sound its best. So it's not about the "look" of having the mic in the shot, but rather just getting the best audio quality. TBH I would prefer to not have the microphone in the frame! For a while, I was using a little lapel mic, but it doesn't sound as good, and needs more post-processing. The best thing to get would be a shotgun mic, which I could place off-camera and have pointed at my mouth. But a good one is big $$$.

I'm not really into Christmas and the music and movies that go with it. If I'm ever asked what my favorite Christmas movies are, I always pick a random, and usually inappropriate, movie that has nothing to do with it, like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, or Akira. Die Hard is a good pick since it's simultaneously a Christmas movie and a straight action movie. It is amusing, to me at least.
I'm a few years younger than you, but I remember getting big into He-Man around the same time. That was one of my early interests, though Voltron had more staying power for me. I also have vague memories of some of my earlier Christmases. It probably depends on something out of the ordinary or specific gifts that stood out. Anyway, thanks for sharing as always. Enjoy the cereal.

The movie "Love Hard" on Netflix the whole thing pretty much centers around whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not 😂

    • @NinjaRunningWild
      @NinjaRunningWild Рік тому +1

It’s not _really_ a Christmas movie so much as an action movie set during Christmas. The holiday part is really incidental &, if replaced, wouldn’t appreciably change the movie. Nonetheless, I watch it every year.

@@NinjaRunningWild I've never actually seen ANY or the "Die Hard" films (I know!!) so I can't really even have an opinion on whether it is a Christmas movie or nor but your probably right anyway. I will NEVER understand why people get SO up in arms over stuff like that as in wether it is or not because really WHO cares?!
