  • So you went to a shop and they told you your ball joints are worn out. They have too much play. Which according to Dodge specs is .090 of an inch horizontally in the lower joint and .060 laterally in the upper joint. While those numbers are crazy, In this video (the first in a two or three part series I'm not sure yet we'll see how editing goes) we show you through demonstration how much .090 horizontal play is and why its ridiculous when a shop calls one of our joints for too much play. We also demonstrate how a mechanic can't wing it and just guess at the play because they've " done thousands of ball joints and just know" Please pay attention to what's being said and not how amateur the video is. We make Ball joints and steering components. Our strength is in problem solving and discovery of things that don't work. We aren't just making products to sell, we actually care about saving you money and finally getting your truck working well, as inexpensively as possible. The easiest way to help you and explain is through these videos.
Please keep in mind we trouble shoot for people that use all makes of ball joints as well as ours. I spend close to 50 hours a week and on weekends helping these people and our customers figure out what their mechanics don't understand. I use the information first hand to help improve our designs and our tech support.

I had to admit defeat and have a shop do my joints as my unit bearings were seized after 2 days beating the shit out if it. they charged 8hr labor ( w/o aliment) for a 5.5 he job due to how stuck the bearings were . Now it clacks over lines in the asphalt, worce than when the joints were wiped.
How bad could the shop have screwed up the jobby not following your well written explicit instructions?
Do I need to go back in and redo the hole job?
( just for context the shop Forman argued with me about doing the allinment as "we never do an aliment for just balljoints it doesn't change anything. "
I had to do the mandatory aliment when I got back to town~400mi later, it drove like a radio flyer wagon, exhausting experience. ) Should I just order a rebuild kit and try to bill the shop for not reading the instructions and not greasing the joint likely leading to dry galded races?

Hey great job guys. Excellent demonstration, I'm anxiously awaiting the check on radial play on the upper joint.

Just have to edit it. We cut apart a bunch of upper joints to show the difference between brands and how some joints can show a few thous play and others are done. It's all about familiarizing yourself with your parts. Many people think all parts are the same and the are very different

Thank you for all the straight forward info in all your videos. I have Carli ball joints on my 2013 ram 2500 and am having a cupping issue on the inside and outside of the tire tread. After watching this there's no more than 10k play. Could that be the problem?

Do those adjustment rings rust up and become unadjustable?
