On the German side, everything was covered with smoke and thick fountains of earth in clumps flying up. there were huge flocks of scared birds flying around in the sky a constant humming Thunder explosions we has to cover our ears to prevent our eardrums breaking."

    • @bigphishey
      @bigphishey  Рік тому +32

      Extremely, so much so that the German soldiers called them 'Stalin's Organs'.
      It is said that when Germans took the small city of Rudnya (outskirts of Smolensk). They got bombarded non stop for 3 hours.
      Suddenly, their vehicles were exploding and the soldiers were dying.
      The rockets made the never-heard-before howling sound that sent shivers through the German bodies.
      The Germans panicked and fled from the city.

      @drinkyourwater1039 Рік тому +18

      @@bigphishey also, the rocket launchers during the start of operation Barbarossa were secret weapons, then they in a shocking manner for the Germans, began to mass attack on the most important fronts for a demoralising strike, this caught the Germans off guard as they didn't even knew about them, so for the first months of use, the katyusha was one of the most feared weapons of the battlefield, as it was almost impossible to track down their location, with counter barrage fire being impossible due to their mobility, this created a lot of war stories of Germans deserting, getting shell shocked and commiting suicide altogether when they are stroke by a unending barrage during the 1941 battle of Moscow
