  • A quick evening trip puts a few crappie in the bag. The spawn in the spring isn't the only time to fish for Crappie. You can still find them in the heat of the summer. Come along with me on GVSoutdoors and see!
Disclaimer...I promise this is not the best footage you will see on this channel. I'm learning and committed to getting better footage each time I go. Thanks for watching!

If you're having problems keeping minnows alive, especially in warmer weather, try the Rosy Red variety of fathead minnows. They are so much more hearty than the regular shiners you buy at bait shops. I just kept several dozen alive for 4+ days in a cooler with an aerator. And they don't die quickly once hooked either, regardless of where you hook them. You can typically find them at the chain pet stores as they are sold as feeder fish for around $0.20/ea. But sometimes they don't have the larger ones in stock that you'd want for fishing in the 2-1/2" range. However The Honey Hole Bait and Tackle in Blue Ridge VA near Roanoke has started carrying them. I'm not sure if any of the tackle shops near the lake do or not, even though they all use the same supplier. And also I've seen my crappie harvest at least triple using them over shiners. It's either their lively action or the color, or perhaps both. Hands down the best crappie minnow you can buy.

Yeah Fatgeads in general are tough. I just don't buy minnows EVER. I either catch them or go without. It is a good excuse to jig and improve at that for me. Honey hole is AWESOME. Thanks for watching!

@@starcityskycams2502 I might need to hit you up for some deep water striper expertise. I have a bunch of spoons I made up just don't know areas to target so much and I usually give up by daylight when the jetskis swarm. We should do a recon exchange! I fish most Tuesdays

@@CatchingLimits I avoid the lower part of the lake like a plague. I am almost always in the Roanoke river and usually not a lot further down than Lynville. Saves gas and everything I want to catch I can
