About Inkay and Malamar, I think part of their justification for the Dark-Type is the inspiration they took from the fact that many cephalopods can change color and not only use that to sneak around but also use their color change to disorient their prey before attacking them. For Impidimp's line, I believe they have the ongoing theme of being fairytale villains: an imp, a goblin, an ogre and for G-Max Grimmsnarl, a giant. They could also have been themed around unseelie fae, which are ugly and usually evil.
I always interpretated dark type as the ruthless or merciless pokemon. Pokemon that aren't afraid to beat up a target with their teammates, bite, use fake tears, sucker punch, throat chop, taunt and even thievery.
1:04:26 It’s important to remember that the move Morgem learns upon evolution is False Surrender. In SWSH, when it uses the move, it begs, bows and the Glaive hair jabs out and hits the opponent
You guys didnt touch about the MAIN reason the "Evil" Type applies. because japan as a culture values the "feeling" of something. For example in summer they eat/decorate with things that FEELS relaxing and breeze. Evil Type is similar, its anything that gives an "evil" motif. Umbreon is the pokemon that represents night, he is a night predator, night is associated with evil.
14:58 Lockstin is pretty on point with the JoJo's reference, in Part 6 onwards there's a concept called Dark Determination, when a character's killing intent rises to the surface, which appears as flames in their eyes (It starts in Stone Ocean, then named Dark Determination in SBR)
I always thought Guzzlord was supposed to be like a black hole personified, especially since it's dex entry mentions its droppings have never been found
Actually Lumi, the Lernaean Hydra from Greek Mythology has no affiliation with Hades. She was one of the many children of Echidna, the mother of Monsters, and Typhon, the father of Monsters. She resided in the swamps of Lerna, hence her name, and contrary to popular belief, was not a dragon, but a serpent. Also, the Hydra was born with nine heads, but grew more everytime one was cut off. However, one head was immortal, so even after it was cut off, it wouldn't die.
I think the galarian forms are trying to use the og bird types in a pseudo(right word?) way. Fire is in form of aura Ice in form of getting freezing by psychic power(a common thing) Electric in form of lightning quick Which I think is neat
Love to see this one with Lockstin. To follow up on the convo in Absol, in the Pokémon adventures manga Absol plays a role in warning the Hoenn region of the kyogre vs Groudon fight, and also helps out. Point being I think absol was included in relation to the calamities in Gen 3
Ik this was a couple weeks ago, but I think Umbreon's Dark typing makes perfect sense, since it's classified as the "moonlight" pokémon, and I think I've heard possibly in the anime or in a dex entry (?? or I saw Gary tell his to use flash in a cave and I immediately went "that's a flashlight/torch if I've ever seen one") that Umbreon is an excellent source of light and companionship for explorers. Umbreon's dark type is in relation to its ability to traverse dark spaces using its own light source. Darkness, as in the absence of light, which I think is very cool! It's a pokémon type that doesn't have to rely on the one interpretation of the word,,
26:26 surprised you all didn’t make the connection for Murkrow being part of the mob. And the fact that Murk is part of its name which literally means darkness or thick mist. Also it’s slang for meaning to beat up or kill someone in mafia terms.
Honchkrow seems fitting for being a mob boss, I mean Murkrow's inspiration resembles both a witch and a mafia crook, so it make sense that Honchkrow looks like a mafia boss (tuxedo and fedora) for the mafia crook on Murkrow, and a wizard (white beard and wizard hat, and broom tail) for the witch on Murkrow, plus, it's dex entry says it lets the Murkrows do it's bidding while it stays in the nest and mercilessly punish a Murkrow that dissapoints it, just like a mafia boss just sitting in his office while his underlings do the dirty work, and he'll just straight up kill the underling that fails him, following the "big bad hurts his minion" trope and how the mafia hate traitors
I feel like in Gen 1, Poison was the stand-in Dark Type, it's pretty meansprited to poison somebody but of course not all poison types don't equal "Dark" like I wouldn't make Venusaur Grass/Dark and Bug/Poison fits Beedrill better than Bug/Dark cause it's a giant Bug that stings with Poison, but perhaps Arbok, Weezing, Golbat, Gengar, etc...I could see all of these having Dark added to them. Arbok mostly because people are scared of Snakes, but Arbok is also a "King" Cobra so it could be like a capricious or tyrannical Serpent King Weezing is based on pollutants and destroying Nature is Evil Golbat is inspired by the idea of Vampire Bats and bites people to drink their lifeforce Gengar is called "The Shadow Pokemon" and all it's dex entries talk about how scary it is, how it stalks people at night and if you encounter it alone you are doomed!
The Tentacool line too, who're known to ruthlessly sting their caught enemies with their tentacles, even the fishers have to deal with them when mistakenly hooking them up.
@@lipika2841 I feel like Tentacool and Tentacruel fall into the same category as Beedrill. They are pretty mean and scary but their current types already fit them very well. Tentacool is a Jellyfish-like creature so it's from the Water and it Stings people because Jellyfish are well known poisonous animals.
[Iron Jugulis] is supposed to be genetic splicing of animals and machines. Trying to make a (BIOMECHANICAL WEAPON) =dark type. The flying type is tied to it simply because that is the best type for a dark type to be combined with.
I’ve always thought of the dark type as the aggressive type. Like the angry, hateful, lashing out aggression. That’s why fighting type is super effective against them. A honed disciplined fighter is better than a wild aggressive person.
Lokix is dark type for the same reason Batman would be dark type. Heroes of the night who excel in fear tactics and using their menacing presence and abilities to fight for justice under a scary persona. Lokix isn’t evil nor an antagonist, but it’s not seen as noble and virtuous. It does its job using the tactics it has and moves on.
with Absol i think its important to consider the social context in which it was introduced; that is, everything in media was super edgy. Its the era that gave us the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie, Shadow the Hedgehog with a gun, and jeans with florentine crosses stitched into the back pockets. Absol is dark type, in part, because the edgelord anti-hero thing was just very popular at the time.
I swear I’ve got the most views on your yt videos, ive been subbed since 2022 and ive always got your videos playing in the background cause i enjoy your convos and your tier lists are always funny i even fall asleep to your vids but too broke to be a member cause ya know life and stuff but im glade you guys aren’t ending and pls stream Pokémon snap I’ve been waiting since Xmas haha
Surprised to see Lockstin on here, now I feel cool I subscribed a few days ago to notice how small the world can be. Also I subscribed because I got back into Pokemon recently albeit late with Sword, hoping to build my dream team.
@@HiddenPowerPodcast It's still being decided but I really like Keldeo and hoped to catch him in a Dive ball since it matches his water typing, I chose Sword because it allows you to catch a lot of Pokemon in whatever ball you want (rather than being the event ball locked) so I wanted to make a cool team that matched the pokeballs. Also very sad I can't get Deoxys since he is one of my favorite's. I wanted him in a Lure ball.
Dusty you do know the top of a pentagram symbolizes Spirit right? and the other four are the elements fire, water, air ,and Earth if not now you know buddy
Burakkī/Umbreon with any neutral Nature (Shy/Bashful, Docile, Hard Working/Hardy, Quirky, and Serious) makes it a good Synchro Nature-match hunter when the overworld Ability effects work. Not my favorite, but I do use it depending on the available Pokémon in a region.
It is sad that Sneak Attack/Feint Attack is longer usable in the console Pokémon games. 2D Pokémon games would have helped allow extra memory space for more content.
Thanks for having me on! It was fun! Y'all are great
Our pleasure. Lets make this a regular thing!
It's weird seeing you calm and collected as compared to your channel where you seem to have more of an excited curiosity personality.
Lockstin is that guy. One of the best Pokemon Creators.
He literally might be the reason why I love Pokémon so much
About Inkay and Malamar, I think part of their justification for the Dark-Type is the inspiration they took from the fact that many cephalopods can change color and not only use that to sneak around but also use their color change to disorient their prey before attacking them.

Very surprised that they didn’t mention Morgrem’s False Surrender or “pleading before hair stab” trickery
I love how Kowtow Cleave and False Surrender are just the same move (Kowtow Cleave just has 5 more power)
You guys didnt touch about the MAIN reason the "Evil" Type applies. because japan as a culture values the "feeling" of something. For example in summer they eat/decorate with things that FEELS relaxing and breeze. “Bugs are stupid, you can’t trick them” took me out😂😂😂
I always thought Guzzlord was supposed to be like a black hole personified, especially since it's dex entry mentions its droppings have never been found
I thought that was confirmed
Didn’t know Lockstin was chill like that
I find it interesting that both Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon made their Kamen Rider thing Dark
Part of that is because the original kamen rider uses powers given by evil forces to fight evil
Congratulations to the Legendary Trio!! This podcast is gonna boom with ZA and gen 10.
Lokix's Dark typing is probably from the fact that in the original Kamen Rider show, the protagonist got his abilities from the villain organization.
Skorupi wanted to be a hero, but evolved to travel the dark path.
The same can be said to Pancham, who had a whole Pokétoon episode titled "The Pancham Who Wants to be a Hero." You should honestly give it a watch.
Y’all got lockstin! Awesome!
Lumi, I can confirm that thing about butterflies is real
Next time I catch a Brute Bonnet I’m naming it Kronk.
Actually Lumi, the Lernaean Hydra from Greek Mythology has no affiliation with Hades. She was one of the many children of Echidna, the mother of Monsters, and Typhon, the father of Monsters. Great vid! I’d love to see this on other Pokémon types. Thanks Lockstin for posting the link
Thank you! Be sure to check our playlist on Pokémon Type Breakdowns-we’ve done Flying, Fairy, and Dragon so far!
Finally my favorite type is getting love
hi from lockstin’s channel! love this podcast idea
Hello! And welcome to the channel! 💙💚❤️
lockstin talking about the dark pokemon type
Great episode and great guest, it could've been even longer imo. The soul silver guy's urge to get over with it was a little uncomfortable tho.

"あくタイプ Aku taipu" is what it is called, and it does translate to "Evil type".
Love to see this one with Lockstin.

"fearow and pidgeot are just the same"
fearow with higher attack and speed and access to drill peck: dude wtf
Love Austin's content, finally a guest that makes good shit
I just finished watching and still cant believe this collab with Lockstin!!!

Alolan Persian is the opposite of mango persian. Mango Persian has a tiny head.I like the fatter head because cuteness
Kanto autocorrect

Yo you got lockstin in this lets go. Love his videos now i get yours and his in 1
47:08 The Hopkinsville Goblin!!
[Iron Jugulis] is supposed to be genetic splicing of animals and machines. Trying to make a
(BIOMECHANICAL WEAPON) =dark type. The flying type is tied to it simply because that is the best type for a dark type to be combined with.
Alolan Muk might be dark type because of its connection to alchemy.
I’ve always thought of the dark type as the aggressive type. Like the angry, hateful, lashing out aggression. That’s why fighting type is super effective against them. A honed disciplined fighter is better than a wild aggressive person.
I think they mean Umbreon is poisonous in the sense that it can have a toxic attitude if it wanted to. 😅
OMG Lumi with the Shady azumarill referernce at the same time i was thinking of that particular clip too!
Lokix is dark type for the same reason Batman would be dark type. I'm surprised no one mentioned guzzlord is based on lovecraftion version of a cane toad.
You guys are great, keep up the awesome work
@9:00 Bugs are ruthless and they think purely logically therefore they cannot be swayed by morals.
Bug is effective against dark because some bugs can see in the dark

59:52 I'm telling you the fairy type has a parasitic mushroom base.
This is a cool podcast. Glad youtube recommened this. +1 for the algorithm

Thank you so much for your support! We appreciate you a ton! What’s your favorite episode?
I feel lik lokix should evolve one more time
Great episode
didnt know lockstin had a normal speaking voice 😭
Having lockstin on was awesome.
Surprised to see Lockstin on here, now I feel cool I subscribed a few days ago to notice how small the world can be. Also I subscribed because I got back into Pokemon recently albeit late with Sword, hoping to build my dream team.
We love to hear that you got back into Pokemon! Whats your dream team??

Ghost wasn't really good in gen one. The only Ghost type was Gengar who was weak to psychic, and the only move was astonish.
Wait shadow ball didn't exist or gengar didn't get it?
Shadow Ball wasn't put into the games until Gen2, but was used by Mewtwo in the 1st movie & Lick was the only attacking Ghost move.
Off subject: I hope game freak announces a "pokemon classic" like a gba or gba sp with gens 1-3 and pokemon home.
It could recreate the early days.
Looking forward to this one!!
Wait...we had Lockstin and we're...discussing Dark Types........?
Best dark type pokemon is Spiritomb. Love that pokemon
Bass from MegaMan is pronounced like the sound, not the fish.
Fun fact wrath is a sin and based on revenge or retribution
Dusty you do know the top of a pentagram symbolizes Spirit right? and the other four are the elements fire, water, air ,and Earth if not now you know buddy
Please „notsoAcetrainer“ as the next guest! Great!
yesss! 🙏🏻 I hope he agrees to do an episode one day, as long as there are no leaks 😊

Best type
HELL YEAH
Why is soul always in a hurry?
Maybe he can't talk for too long & wants to get this over with quick. Simply a hunch.
