Ordered. So excited for this Solo Renaldo album!!!! Fantastic music video... brilliant performance by Renaldo, love the masked characters, ritual crumbing dance... so good!
I am a big fan of the one with the parts in diffefent keys. Always loved Trout Mask for that but... Kind Sir, you achieved a pleasant alteration of conciousness on the first (and day after my B day! 😊) that required driving listening only to Trout Mask... Took about 3 months to stop shock twitches. Lol Oh. One other thing seems a bit of a coincidence The song Big Headed Son.... My band, the Pleasant Livers, put out a CD in 2005 called Big Headed Baby.... As a 40+ year rabid fan, I LOVE it! LOL You two have provided my soundtrack for life Thank you This disc is amazing!!!
This is incredible, both the song and music video. I found The Residents at the age of 6 and Renaldo and the Loaf shortly after and immediately fell in love with the sound and aesthetic. Keep doing what you’re doing, nobody else does it quite like this.
RaTL always remind me of early Animal Collective, in the way they build sounds to become other sounds, like on "Here Comes the Indian" etc. Those records have a lot in common with this material. RaTL is the spiritual ancestor of a lot of experimental music that happened in the early and mid oughts. A sort of vibratory quality is there in each note or texture or phrase that stems in some way from their very British nature/folk inspirations, and also in their efforts to turn acoustic gear electric through effects and modulation. Truly always, I am left thinking: innovation with a certain historicity. And again, here on this new cut, I find myself in the past but somehow, the future. Blessing Song is a great rework from Renaldo M.
Thanks Bucko for your thoughts on RATL's sound...I think in our exploration of sounds that we found interesting, ethnic/world and folk were certainly in the mix together with other genres, though perhaps for some people those textures and sounds stood out the most. The use of effects/techniques and tape to modulate acoustic instruments was most prevalent in our pre-1987 work - since we got back together in the 2000s, computers have been at the core of our music. The sounds we still like to work with may still reflect those early days but expanded with a whole load of new possibilities. The music on my solo album sort of spans the time between those two approaches and was started when RATL were not together, being work I sketched largely in the 1990s using MIDI - the tracks then being completed over a period of years up until now. So perhaps that accounts for some mixture of the past and future. Blessing Song is a 'rework' only in the sense that I originally recorded the backing track for a collaboration project with Michael Alan Alien in 2011 but reworked/reconsidered it last year for this album. Renaldo M
My german seller just sent a 'shipped' email and with my birthday around Hallowe'en AND as a rabid fan since 1981 guess who gets the best b day present ever?!?
Panko works with everything! I have enjoyed your artistic works for decades. So fun! But jeeze you guys are so gay! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
