Inspired by Ornette Coleman. Check out Ramblin' on his Change of the Century album. Daevid had many talents, he was an excellent artist and poet, con man and comedian. We used to play on the streets of Paris in 1961. He had a small speaker mounted on a golf cart, that and his guitar were powered by a car battery. We'd roam up and down Blvd. San Michelle, stopping at one end to buy soft ice cream cones, then playing our way down to the river. People would drop coins in a hat and that's how we ate and payed our rent.
Which is funny because I heard an Ozric Tentacles “remix” where some cnut had removed all the guitar for the “Dance community”. And the name of that cnut was Steve Hillage.
One of the most underrated guitarists of the 1970's, or any other decade. And his solo records, as well as Gong, are some of the best stuff to mind voyage to...
I am so lucky to have grown up and seen so many time's in many manifestations. Hitching down to Glastonbury and camping to see them, taking tubes around London to catch them. I was slighty out of my poor mind during all this, yet somehow managed to be together for my suffocatingly strick Indian father and Irish Catholic mother and get good grades, plus get all my piano grades done..how i longed to run away and join gong and put Chopin, Bach, Beet, on ice for a while. I actually remained near their tent for an hour trying to pick up the courage to say something, leave home, follow, and play with them if allowed, live with them if I could...... nope, went back to my tent and group, too young, too scared. Sad point about a clasdicak pianist... you never have your instrument with you.. i t s hellish. You have to be 100% dedicated to live by your music and the feeling of creativity. If it can feed you, house you. It's secondary. I adored them ⚘️🙌🐾🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

Actually no they werent as Daevid Allen banned the use of any drugs within the band
Lee Evans - Did you know Andy Warhol didn't do drugs much - but liked being around people who did - think about it 🤔✌️
@Dirk Pitt Andy Warhol was Handcuffed to Rob Halford for a night ? Oh , What a night - never heard that one - thanks 🤪✌️ Lucky Man
Love gong,a great mystical magical psychedelic band.
Not an easy one to whistle.
I find myself humming along
Classic Gong
I love Steve Hillage guitar solos.
Right.
Fish Rising is the BEST
Recently i saw him on mike oldfield's tubular bells
Thanks, I certainly enjoyed this. I'm a Gongster for 40 years now. First gig at Walthamstow Assembly Hall 1973.
Imagine they had a tour in these years with …Magma…! Were like Cats and Dogs… opposite moods !
I am so lucky to have grown up and seen
so many time's in many manifestations.
