We build this bed to get an extra room in our apartment. We downsized from 1000 sq.ft. to 500 sq.ft. by renting out two rooms, and it has given us the freedom to travel much more and live out our dreams really.

Love that you used underneath for storage
You are so right, a lot of these bed are too low down but this is a good idea to have storage at the bottom. I love the amount of storage this has in three separate areas. Great job!

thanks for sharing! may i ask how much gap you needed you put between the headboard and the mattress itself using that piston?
I think this is for a queen sized mattress. I PM'ed them just now, so hopefully I'll find out soon!

I have a studio apartment and I wanted a Murphy bed to allow me space to work out with the virtual reality headset. I got sticker shock looking up the prices of these things. I decided to do my own. I'm almost done, have to assemble it in my apartment. It's a fun experience, and I don't have to spend $1,500. All together everything cost about 500 bucks. I didn't skimp on the wood.
Im thinking about doing something like this, with my regular bed, its just such a huge waste during the day, having the bed take up all that space. when you can have it take up like 40-50cm when folded up against the wall.

Hi Bryan. We just finished a plan for a standard Murphy bed (availiable on www.Murphybedhq.com) and we are working on a plan for this one too - I guess it will be available in a month (latest).

What mechanism makes it so it goes down and up so effortlessly and so the legs lock the bed in the wall? Can you share how you did that please?

I'd like to build something like this with a bench underneath so I can sit on it like a sofa when the bed's up. Where can I get a plan for something like that, (full size mattress)

RunFromHumanContacts No, But I figure once you can bolt a deep bench to a wall as an anchor, just put a plywood panel on 2 door hinges connected to the back of the bench and you're mostly done. Get some fabric belts to secure the mattress to the plywood panel. Retractable legs or nearby table will hold the panel while you sleep.

How hard would it be to create a murphy bed that is also a replica of a police box/TARDIS from Doctor Who? Any ideas on it?
Type in Tardis Murphy Bed. A lot of people have done them. I saved the pictures so I can consider doing it in the future. You'll find videos or go to Pinterest and you will find more there too.

I gave a thumbs down not because I didn't like the bed, but because your heading say with plans, this only sites your showing the result of your hard work
I don't even think the plans are their own. They seem to be using the Murphy Bed mechanism and give you the link to buy the $300 kit, so I'm thinking they are using the instructions that came with that kit and you still have to buy the kit. Their website is not very clear as to what exactly the plans will include for the $19.
