WWE actually have to put on a compelling product,if their ratings tank Fox will not renew and they lose leverage to get other companies to bid against each other when Fox contract expires. Right now live entertainment events be it sports,wrestling,awards show etc are riding high in a tv rights bubble because scripted programming has cratered. In 5-10 years that bubble could be burst once the market catches up with the shifting non live watching viewing patterns of younger people,so if WWE rests on it's laurels they may regret doing so
They should do that just have an open ring and like a parking lot call a bunch of indie guys and let em fight off last man standing gets a $50,000 & a NXT contract

j p Because I don't watch WWE for the WWE name. I watch it because I'm a fan of certain wrestlers. For instance, I'm a Jeff Hardy fan. I watch Jeff Hardy last year and before Wrestlemania, he wasn't even in WWE. I watched him in Ring of Honor and IMPACT wrestling. I watch Hardy because I am a fan of him, not WWE. Just because I like a wrestler doesn't mean I'm going to just keep quiet about the promotion that said wrestler works for.
MerrieMelodies Fan i understand that perspective but for me the good parts i love are very few. The majority of the show i find boring badly written infuriating in a bad way and for me its not worth watching anymore. I can find the parts i like on youtube.

@@theb3654 100% this. I know so many ex wrestling fans. I tried watching again from 2015 to 2016 and my friends asked me if it got better all of us left between 2002-2007.
I told them its actually gotten far worse then they couldn't even imagine.and I guess now its even worse then it was when I when I came back , which that is a fucking accomplishment.
The WWE is today's equivalent to The Muppet Show....but less watchable.

My guess is the main reason that the wrestlers can't be employees is OSHA regulations. They have strict rules about using ladders, fall protection, etc. Going under the ring could be considered a confined space entry. As an independent contractor though they get around the laws. The OSHA regulations apply to employees not the employer (for the most part)

Back in the day saturday nights main event was on NBC in the 1980's & the early 90's it made a little stint on FOX in 1992 and didn't come back on NBC until 2006

Great question. I think it's a little of both. I feel the internet has a huge hand in the death of Pro Wrestling. I preferred back in the day when you knew nothing about what was going to happen and you had to watch the show. Now there's so many spoilers, shoot interviews that make wrestling look bad, and negative reviews it make you not want to watch.
@@kbshowtyme Yeah, it's very hard to keep secrets, nowadays, but with smart writers, and real wrestlers being involved in decision-making processes, you'd have a product which would keep most folks happy.

Cornette chastises WWE and talks shit but in the back of his mind he knows business is business,the Brian guy on the other hand...why does he even remotely discuss WWE current product if he hates it so much. I never hear him say one unbiased assessment of anything they do. I hate current wrestling but I don’t watch it either,this guy seems to hate it yet still keeps up with it.

I would point out the last time Vince worked with a big network. He signed a 2 year deal with NBC for the xfl. It didn't get those 2 years. So I think there is still a incentive to put out good content.

I don’t really understand why they basically tried to make WWE making this huge television deal a bad thing. Just because they made the TV deal does not mean that they are going to not make any more stars. I am sure that they will and they already have made new stars. Look at Brawn for one. You cannot tell me that guy is not over. Not to mention guys like Brian, styles, Rusev and Rawlins. I think it’s ridiculous that they basically made it sound like making the deal is a bad thing. Any wrestling company or any other company for that matter that had a chance to make a deal like that would jump at the opportunity. Jim at least pointed out the importance and seriousness of this deal. Brian pretty much did what he always does and made out that anything WWE does in his opinion is a bad thing.
It's because now the wwe is making more money than ever before just on the tv side and not on the network or ppv so just like what happened to Hogan, and Randy savage when raw first launched the need for top expensive and major stars is no longer needed because now they just have to produce content since they're not only unopposed but are getting guaranteed money so guys like Brock, cena, triple h, undertaker, and possibly Roman and Rollins since they're getting paid alot as well are necessarily needed anymore because fox is just paying them to produce content for their network nothing more so we could see either a major decline in quality of the product or very much like the first 5 years of the pg era where everything was very bland and repetitive

Also to my point, though WWE has made new stars. Look at the bloodline and Austin theory and Ripley and Belair and Becky and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and Damian Priest. So to say they have not made new stars it’s just not true. They have the hottest story in all of wrestling going on right now.

I honestly think WWE is going to pull a Monday Night Football switch. MNF used to be the A show for the NFL until it went to ESPN. Then it became the B show while Sunday Night Football became the A show. SmackDown will be the A show while Raw will become the B show.

Smackdown averages 0.8 demo ratings and about 2.7 million total viewers no matter if there are repeats or not on the other networks. Not improving your numbers when you go against repeats and documentaries is really pitiful and FOX is under contract to show this for 3 more years although I'm pretty sure there's a clause to get them out of this contract before then.

As long as WWE doesn't go back to the format of over-the-air tv broadcasts of the 1980s (with the exception of Saturday Night's Main Event). In other words Superstar vs. jobber. Also WWE maybe realizes that antennas are making a comeback as cordcutters have been increasing almost every month for the last 10 years.
That is why I stopped watching wrestling. 3 shows a week. Each show had 1 match with established stars. The rest was preliminaries-star vs jobber.

They were the ones who bitched about how the prequels didn't feel enough like old Star Wars leading to the Force Awakens having all those call backs and basically incoporating elements from the EU while The Last Jedi is basically a redone version of the Empire Strikes Back.
So while they didn't write the script they do own the blame for the way some parts of these movies turned out and possibly Lucas selling out to Disney.
Also despite what some people delude themselves into believing Johnson is a Star Wars fan so his work can't be brushed off as something done by someone unfamiliar with the franchise or it's lore.

I’m not saying WWE is great these days but unfortunately AEW was a huge let down for me personally , and others I have spoke to, And two people that view it in that light honestly it just made WWE look better. I really want WWE to have real competition but instead we have all these secondary companies like Impact, ROH, MLW, and AEW. Which are all honestly, feel like the same company. I almost wish all of them would just shut down because it’s muddy in the water and if a wrestling company really does try to break through it’s going to have a harder time because now there’s half a dozen wrestling companies in the United States and only one of them is successfully a nationwide/global company. I’m not saying those companies are bad but if you 5 TNA’s and one WWE, it’s just fucked. I don’t think the people behind those companies really stop and think that WWE and WCW didn’t start as national promotions. They started as territories and work their way up. Just opening day trying to go national isn’t as easy as it sounds.
I think that’s why I loved the 90’s. We had 2 National promotions in WWE and WCW but then the smaller promotions of the day knew they were smaller so they didn’t try to be national. They knew their best way to go about business was just to be a smaller territory like SMW, ECW, GWF and USWA. ECW Might have lasted longer if they didn’t try to go national. You ask any ECW fan and they all say the best days of ECW were the first 4 or 5 years when they were just a North East Territory.

Disney won't be getting the FOX network from what I've heard.
Disney doesn't care about the marvel properties, they can easily license those like they did with Spiderman and Hulk if they really wanted those. They just want the Fox movie library for the new Disney Streaming Service, they can then pull all Fox and Disney movies off Netflix and Amazon to kill business for them.

Also NXT is going on the USA Network also and they have NXT UK so you are out of your mind if you think they are finished. AEW is not really completion yet for WWE. NXT is actually its competition right now and to be honest NXT and NXT UK are better. All IN was a decent pay per view but nothing special.
Having a higher number of views of GCW shows on you tube than of WWE shows on TV might wake WWE up to what wrestling. fans want. They want wrestling, not “sports entertainment”.

UFC really have changed over years to emulate Pro Wrestling with the "Super fights / Catch weight, fighters cutting promos, focusing on one superstar, and still Brock and Punk can walk in and draw more PPV buys and money than anyone on the UFC roster outside of Conor.

Actually, the deal is for the network channel, not the sister ones. Fox wouldn't be paying $1 billion over to air wrestling on FS1.
Wrestling as we knew it is dead. You want old time wrestling watch the UFC yes they are throwing punches really hitting each other but the ending is always predetermined. Just like old time wrestling. Nobody watches wrestling anymore.
