The Brawl for All was meant to be modeled after MMA and Toughman Contests that were gaining popularity at the time. But when seeing Steve Blackman's martial arts skills and realizing he could literally cripple any of his competition in a shoot fight, WWE restricted the rules so only punching and takedowns were allowed. former UFC Champion Francis Ngannou considered the most destructive pure puncher in UFC has lost both his boxing matches. That's why you shouldn't compete in even related sports without the required skills and experience. With MMA gloves and Bart Gunn going for takedowns instead of boxing, the result could have been different.
“Brilliant idea” ? No it was not it was a terrible idea. Have Wrestlers who had none/limited Boxing skills go up against each other the up a against a professional Boxer. They risked them getting serious injured in fact several them did get injured. Bart Gunn got a concussion after being knocked out by Butterbean and was released not long after, so everything turned out to nothing.
It was an interesting idea on paper. They could’ve had them wear headgear or at least protected them in some way. This is one of those funny stories where the Vince McMahon filter goes out the window for Russo. Vince McMahon allowed this to take up the entire show and he didn’t think to put any safety precautions in place ? I feel like a lot of the times Vince McMahon gets away with stuff because of the impact he’s had on the industry. The execution of this idea was terrible. They should’ve just made it like a shoot work. But I’ve always said it is Vince. McMahon thought that people were in danger. It would’ve been gone the next night on raw.
Brawl for All. 3 legit gentlemen - Steve Blackman, Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock. One got fluked, one was told to withdraw, one was not in the competition. Mental.
Bs on all counts. Blackman got injured, and pulled out. Severn and Shamrock both chickened out. The "scoring" was also absurd. The commentators, and viewers, knew Godfather beat Severn, yet Severn was awarded the win.
@TheNEOverse Shamrock and Severn were both announced for it. Both guys "knew" they would be the Final 2. When they started seeing the WWF guys were legit, Shamrock withdrew right before it started. That's why Karl/Pierre was a last-minute substitute. Severn boasted about how he was gonna win. Then, when Bart Gunn knocked out Steve Williams, Severn tucked his tail between his legs, and quit.
Hold on for a second. I gotta cue up my copy of the Brawl For All Theme from Uncaged VII. Which was probably the only truly good thing from that whole gimmick....other than how Bart bodied Bradshaw. 🤣

The whole premise reminds me of highschool where some idiot would just declare one of his buddys as the toughest or unbeatable, a challenge would occur and the tough guy and loud mouth would find out pretty quick that buddy was definitely not the toughest around lol
He's a mix martial artist. He was told not to fight.
I don’t get how this is something to be proud of Bart Gunn isn’t a pro boxer what a dumb idea
Bart nearly fought Butterbean again in Pride FC
Did he just say Brawl for All was a brilliant idea?
Is butterbean in any wwe game?? Would be bad ass if he was
WWE was real corny for doing that to Bart Gunn. Bart Gunn prove himself to be legit in my book just for beating the so called tough guys.
Just look at the size of Butterbeans undearm do you wanna get hit by that? I sure don't.
Who gave him a better fight Bart Gunn or Johny Knoxville?
Butterbean involvement in wwe was Bart Gunn punishment for ruining Steve Williams Big push
What an embarassment and disaster Brawl For All was
- So many injuries
- WWE was still trying maintain kayfabe and script outcomes
- a lot of these guys werent trained to fight
- A guy they werent planning to put over was knocking everyone out
- put that guy on hiatus until Wrestlemania to go up against a real trained boxer to have him knocked out.
Wayyyy back
former UFC Champion Francis Ngannou considered the most destructive pure puncher in UFC has lost both his boxing matches.
Ko ing Bart Gunn is nothing to be proud of. I bet Bart Gunn would kick this guys ass now in a rematch now that Bart Gunn has more experience
Butterbean vs Biden!
Mero was boxing while Blackman was doing takedowns.
All of this because JBL couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Mero coulnt defend takedowns. And he shouldve beat bradshaw but bradshaw just hugged him the whole time
I used to want to see Butterbean vs Mike Tyson.
@@danielburger1775 Neither Severn nor Shamrock chickened out, they knew this shit was stupid and well beneath their legit skills.
@@danielburger1775 you must really be wrestling fan if you think UFC champs would be afraid to fight against nonames
Hold on for a second. I gotta cue up my copy of the Brawl For All Theme from Uncaged VII. Which was probably the only truly good thing from that whole gimmick....other than how Bart bodied Bradshaw. 🤣
This is when I started to view so called "good Ole JR" differently. He's a real life heel. He did mart wrong
