thank you so much. this helps to see the don't dos. I have had the chest mold for a long time but never tried to do it. We always see videos that make it looks so easy, but rarely videos on what not to do. I have found that any metallic colors it over takes and spreads faster than regular ink colors or mica powders. You can't do a real swirl with them because they take over and break down the other colors.
You did a great job saving this, and this was a massive education for all of us! I have always loved the look of resin, and now I am seeing what a challenge it is to work with.
Thanks! Yes resin is weird. On the one hand it’s really straightforward, but there are a lot of things that can go wrong too. But I’m really happy with how it ended up!
One thing to make it easier. Pour the colored squares and let them set up, or mostly set and pour the white over the whole thing and you will have your white squares and frame❤
Syringes work wonders instead of pipettes…. :) also, spray your chess pieces with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol before pouring your resin… you will get hardly any bubbles to zero bubbles…. Edit: one other thing…. When you demold your chess pieces, they will pop right out of you spray isopropyl alcohol in them…. 😊😊😊
By leaving the full amount of mixed up resin in ONE cup, it heats up faster, therefore it cures faster. If you pour resin into cups, making it a smaller amount in each container, you might of been able to use it, depending on how long the first resin took you to use . I learned that the hard way too.😉✌It looks great btw!😁
Thank you for showing us things that can go wrong. Others show us these videos and make it miraculously happen. I made the same mistakes as you and nearly gave up.
I love how it turned out, even though there was some leakage of the dark and light blues and a little with the white, it looks great regardless, I think anyone would be happy to buy it no matter the leaking of colours... I don't think anyone really cares part from those who like perfection, I for one don't care about perfection, it doesn't have to be perfect especially when it's hand/home made... home/hand made doesn't mean it's going to be perfect...
Safety first. Always stressed that to my fellow workers. Resin can create flammable fumes. Was a tab nervous for you when I seen the torch. Good job. Looks great.
Separate kings for checkers? Usually the king is on the flip side, not a separate piece. Informative video though as I'm looking to make a few chessboards.
@@AnnaBlountArt thanks for your reply. I wondered about the checker pieces today (I’m doing a game cube). I remember they had the crown on one side and a radiant line pattern on the other. Most of the resin casting videos with chess and checkers sets have the pieces that need to be stuck together. My moulds are single whole chess pieces but I didn’t get the checkers.. I will attempt my own making a mould from a polymer clay model that I make. Thanks for your input and great video series.
I love that you posted this video instead of making a new one that does not have learning experiences. It came out great and the colors are beautiful!
Thank you!

Thanks for the tips! Clearly there’s a lot to know about resin…
@@AnnaBlountArt I’m still learning! Been working with it for a couple years now and I make mistakes all the time… I love the stuff though!

Thanks! Yes, lots to learn from resin, haha

Absolutely! Glad to share my findings with you!
Now that's a proper resin tutorial. You sure did learn a lot of lessons on this one😊
Thank you! Yes I did, haha.
Thanks for this amazing tutorial, Anna. I am getting started with resin and I actually want to make chess sets, so I found this super helpful!
I’m so glad!

Thanks! Yes I’m very happy with the outcome as well.
What a brilliant tutorial… so much helpful information!
Thanks so much for sharing Anna.
Much love from Brisbane, Australia. ♥️♥️🇦🇺

Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks Deborah!

Yes, I don’t really understand the checkers mold either. Good luck with your chessboards!
I’m not able to find the links for the kit you purchased. Would you mind sharing with me?? I want to make my nephew his own set!!
Here’s the chess set link: letsresin.com/collections/game-molds
Beautiful work ❤
Thanks Andrea!
Tks. Gracias por piner un video con problemas asi nos ayuda a princser mas cuidadosos. Gracias ❤❤❤❤❤
De nada!
After all was said and done, how much resin did you end up using for the mold and the chess pieces?
I’m not totally sure. Probably about 24 ounces, if I hadn’t wasted so much? 😆
I'm from Barbour Co! Hello neighbor 😊
Hello from Pendleton County!
Wow it is beautiful
Thank you Linda!
Thank you. X
Sure thing!
This is going to be played repeatedly, I think! I want to make my nephews a chess set for their birthdays or Xmas
Fun! I’m glad this will be helpful for you!
You stick the checkers together, its 2 halves. ;)
Well yes, that makes sense except they are REALLY thick that way.

Spraying 99% alcohol into the chess piece molds and pouring slowly is the best method for pouring these chess pieces
Thanks! Next time I will try using alcohol.
Great
Thank you!
