Thanks. I just found a mouse nest on top of the 17 Tacoma cabin filter. I'll be putting some hardware cloth or similar on that intake. Now I'm wondering what i'll find under that shield!!
Toyota found that my check engine light came on because "a rodent" chewed part of the gas tank and/or hoses in my 2017 Sienna. Replacement wiil cost $2,512. Short term prevention: spray PineSol in and under the car; dryer sheets in the car. And cover the cabin air intake like thi gentleman did. Thanks for the explanation!
My only recommendation…..remove the wiper arms….all it takes is a 14mm socket. A mild tug on the arm removes it….then you have ultra easy access to fabricate your excluder remedy. I used the same gutter guard material, but attached it with sheet metal screws. I then bent the edges over the air intake with a small hammer to perfectly fit the air intake. Removing the wiper arms, probably save me close to an hour of work.
Beautiful repair! I have a suggestion though..... I used 'aluminum' gutter grating, won't ever rust. I used powerful rare-earth magnets to hold it in place. No drilling or glue, just 10 seconds to apply magnets. I would truly hate to meet the mighty mouse who can remove those magnets!
I bought 1-inch diameter wafer mags on ebay and stacked them 3-high. I used 24 magnets but you might be able to use less. With mice I figure more is best.@@TheRainHarvester
Your thinking about the mice just nesting on top of the mesh now that it's the farthest they can get is on point. I hope (but don't know) that they're trying to escape the cold and since this is metal and air is passing through it, it doesn't make for as good a nesting spot as the cabin air filter. I'm going belt-and-suspenders on a 4Runner: wire mesh like this, ultrasound mouse deterrent, peppermint spray, glue traps, moving car into the street where it is far from trees and house. Mice don't like to run around in open space, they use the edges of walls and masonry to move around.
Very helpful video. I have mice getting in and was wondering where they get through. I've heard of vents in the rear somewhere too. Any idea where those are?
Don't leave paper towel in your truck. They made a four handful size nest behind my 07 Taco glove box. Thankfully no wire damage that I could see. And yes, they will munch on all things rubber and plastic.
No mice in Australia eh? It is a common problem everywhere else in the world. Mice love dark, warm, safe spaces to make nests. Your car, which you use a tiny part of the day if that, is perfect for them. Plus, they love the soy based wires in newer models.

I have a 2013 Tacoma and will try this. I have had mice AND even Chipmunks in my cabin filter blower fan. Thanks for the Video !

Another option of securing the screen is JB weld putty for metal
Thanks, I’m about to do that for my Dodge Ram air intake vent

Good idea on the aluminium.
What is the diameter of the magnets?

Good ideas! I keep mouse traps in the garage too. I catch one every month or so.

I don't know of vents in the back. What do they go to? Let me know if you figure out where. Cold weather attracts them!
There are cutouts on the backside of the cab that can only be accessed if you remove the bed from the truck.

Hmmm never heard anything like that.

@@tylerwinkle323 Currently we have one in our roof, we call him Freddy.🐭
Why too much work. never had a mouse inside of that.
Mice get in and chew up wires, costing owners $1000s of dollars in repairs. You are very naive and very lucky.
Just had one in my blower motor. Well shredded now. This video helped, I'm thinking this is how it got in.
