Any dealership that is factory trained working on your motors would have not charged a dime. you are no where near a expert based on what you are saying. no you dont separate the shop from the factory. it is the support from evinrude that allows us to be able to help people.

It IS complicated (just like an EFi or DFI 4 stroke), for sure, but to say it is too advance that they can work on it is poppycock. You have to be trained first, then attack the issue logically (like George P states below) at 9:19 I'll grant that software and ECU is something that support tech is not going to be able to fix. I am pretty sure that the computer is throwing out PIDS in real time that can be captured using the specialized scan tool. With those captured values (everything from time of injector being opened in milliseconds, to fuel rail pressure to crank shaft position) they could give that exported feed to the software techs at the factory.. BUT I don't suspect the software, as the software is used in countless other engines by BRP of the same HP...computer itself? yes could be. We found that the CAN Bus was the reason both engines shut down, not familiar with the CAN bus, but my knowledge of Ethernet 10B2 cable of yore I can tell you they are pretty robust as well as their connectors...if an End Cap is loose, it will definitely stop the horses. no one scratches their head, there is a systematic way of troubleshooting these motors. there is excellent support, it is all there in a service manual. there is not reed valve issues, do you even know know what a reed valve is? god. lemon laws, that would be the person you bought it from there silly boy not the factory itself. you didnt buy it new, you bought it used. yes, you can see who did what to the motors, its all under the motor info, again you are talking about things you dont know about

Evinrude and Mercury just arnt in the same league as the Japanese motors are for reliability.
