This is the purest expression of existential angst ever committed to tape and video; and by a 25 year old who had to cut and splice analogue tape. True talent!! I am and forever will be in awe of Mr. Thirlwell.
I saw him live back then... the main difference is he had severed pigs heads on the stage.... and he wore sunglasses the entire time.... and oddly enough there was a kid in there at the show, maybe 15 years old? (it was a small venue) After the show when we were leaving we saw this kid riding home on his bicycle and he had, somehow, one of the pig heads in the front basket of his bike. Can't imagine him explaining that one to mom....
Even if Jim hated the circumstances under which he was inspired to composing this song, it was so much worth the endurance! First titled Descent into LA, then later changed to the real title, this incredible gem by Jim is Sick Man II ... get down on your knees and pray!! You got smacked in the face with his musical crow bar! It's called Positive negativism!!!!
If it wasn't for these guys there wouldn't be no phatomas or Mr. Bungle. Clint ruin was ahead of his time back then and a masterpiece in the music world today.
Billy Tucker (E William Tucker) introduced me to Jim Thirwell's music, Foetus songs when I hosted a weekly radio show at our college station WTSR -Trenton NJ in the early 80's. I adored Billy Tucker and miss him very much, he understood Jim's music and went on to tour with him for some years before Billy passed away, unfortunately taking his own life which broke many hearts including mine. Foetus lives on and I will always admire his music, art and the beautiful chaos of what he does.
So curious to hear/see Foetus perform, I went to the show in LA around 1990, full band. It was great, really loud, and kinda nervous. He sang Rocket Man (yes, Elton John) and it was awesome. And without any irony.
I vaguely remember seeing this as a child and being kind of scared. This performance was under the name Clint Ruin right? Needless to say it was abut another decade before I really got to grips with his music but the man is a hero
So, in September 2017, my Wife(RIP, no, I didn't do it!), starts throwing fastball coffee cups at my head, and tries to run me down, U.S. football style. Since I already have a felony domestic with said Wife, I decide I better call the local Awful Valley Police, who are just San Bernardino Sheriffs under a nicer name(oh, and Awful Valley is really "Apple" Valley). Of course, since I was the guy with previous, white(not Hispanic), and Wife was originally from Mexico, douchebag Mexican San Bernardino County Sheriff decides to arrest Me! I WAS SCREAMING THE LYRICS FROM "descent" as loud as I could; "IT AIN'T VERY PRETTY WHAT A TOWN WITHOUT PITY CAN DO! And I screamed in his ear all the way to lockup, cursed every member of his family, and told him, "Can't Cheat Karma." He was much more subdued the next time he came around to check my "noise(music)" level. Worst county sheriffs anywhere in this here California, bar none! Peace, thanks for reading, cheers.
A live TV program called The Tube which aired on a Friday eveing in the mid 80's. The Tube showed cased up and coming bands, interviews, and cultural performances.

You are just too right!
Scratching foetus off the wheel forever...
i would give anything to see a full theater cast perform Nail
What an amazing idea. Seriously.
I'd give anything for mr. Thirlwell to get his thumbs out of his posterior and release that goddamn Foetus On The Beach triple album.

Over 35 years and I remember every word.
Same --- Smoke gets in your eye ---
Every word, every fucking word ---
Yep, me too. 80’s were wild. Realised one evening that I would not reach 30 when I continued the way I lived. Happy I did.
Aged 14 ...watching The Tube ...
This is where I knew I was different from everyone else..I loved it then and love it now at 52
You're not different from everyone.

We should all be paying Australia a stipend for Jim Thirlwell doing us the fucking honor of living in America and telling us how shit is.
never thought of this, but yes true, although i think Phatomas doesnt even come close to Thirwells creativity, as much a i love Mike Patton

"I'm cancelling my next birthday". My new years resolution every year.
I cannot believe there is a sort of live version of this. Thank you so much xx
This is so danceable but everyone is being a wooden stake.
Listen to the beat of this and some of the riffs. It’s got a film noir, dark jazz feel to it, with a little rockabilly mixed in, the music, at least.
I vaguely remember seeing this as a child and being kind of scared. This performance was under the name Clint Ruin right? Needless to say it was abut another decade before I really got to grips with his music but the man is a hero
Angst cool as hell
What a gem.
Melbourne's finest. Nice share.
Everything he did was brilliant lol 😀
brutal
Thanks for Jim.
*This* is how you use backing tracks
Apocalyptic foetus off the wheel --- Yes we descent ---

Thank you. I miss seeing him live during this era.
I've never seen this in my life
Wow! Well strap the fuck in we're going for a ride. 💣💥☠

that is a fucking surreal story
I think Clint was channeling you in this song.
what
Where was this performance?
A live TV program called The Tube which aired on a Friday eveing in the mid 80's. The Tube showed cased up and coming bands, interviews, and cultural performances.
like 666
Funny song to a funny videoclip
Bad.
The 80s really sucked.
The 90s and early 2000s were worse
But Foetus is a genius
So does your Mum.
