So this is the first comment that shows up under the post at the moment. I don't know of you have seen what the UA-cam closed caption AI has turned Jim's lyrics into, but they are equally mind blowing in a different way...
Oh, the number of times I've sung this at full voice, with far too much alcohol in my veins!! What a tremendous version but I'm not sure I'd be able to sit as patiently as the people in the audience! Come back and play in Scotland again, please!
@@DJ_Pigg Glasgow? A night out. Wouldn't expect anything less, Sir. I was out of my tits too! Good times. Thanks for the unusually speedy response. Hmmm...your nickname wasn't Pig by any chance, born outside Glasgow?
@@johnsrome8459 Well, there's fuck all else to do these days is there?! Not quite, I'm Glasgow-born, Renfrewshire-bred. I've been DJ Pigg since the early 90s
Back in 1995, I handed a colleague a tape of Killing Joke's Pandemonium. I said, "Hear this and weep." He handed me a copy of NAIL and said it back to me. I heard it and I wept.
True Story. Tatters and Platters in Mpls- alt record shop- I went there and randomly bought 2 albums- Bad Brains Rock for Light/ Foetus Nail. They were the first 2 albums I ever bought in Alternative music as I was just getting into Goth and Punk. BB was a classic and still is to this day- But Nail, was a masterpiece. I literally listened to it for years. I still spin it on occasion. Been a huge fan ever since and never tire of his output. It's a shame more people don't know who Thirlwell is b/c he's probably one of my favorite singers. This is a great reimagining of what was my favorite song on the album. A Weird Aussie who lives in Dumbo- who woulda knew, lol. Thanks for everything- LOVE YOUR STUFF!!!!
It's hard to believe he went from impaled pig heads to super snazzy and dapper white suits with an ensemble! What a career trajectory it's been, Thirlwell has never rested on his laurels.
I just found Thrilwell thru an article in the Prog Magazine, which I bougth because of a Genesis special feature. Good so! I know the name Feutus before but I wasn't giving a listen to it. But what I hear on this live performance is just ... wow! Love it!) THX for load up!)
I've always thought this song was a transcendent take on showtunes (mean that in the best way) and I'm glad to have some concrete proof here. Phenomenal
Nick Cave? They were friendly contemporaries. Thirlwell performed with Nick Cave in "The Immaculate Consumptive", Cave and Thirlwell composed "Wings Off Flies" together. Both of them seemed to have been inspired by No-Wave/Avant-Garde-Post-Punk pioneers - "James Chance and the Contortions" for Thirlwell, and "The Pop Group" for Cave. I wasn't there, nor do I know either of them, or anyone who knew them, so that's pretty much all I know.
Those lyrics are still mindblowing! Thank you so much for letting us taking part of this concert!

Yo DJ Pigg!!
Yup, I was there, in Glasgow. His rock band phase was not my favourite, still, a great night. One day, with the ensemble. We live in hope, mate.
@@johnsrome8459 I was too drunk and can't remember much of the Glasgow gig (a familiar story😄) but it was a great night!

NAIL. I stood on the roof of student housing in Pittsburgh and stared out at the city as I was enveloped by the sounds of NAIL. Brilliant.
Damn. They were both on my “playlist” in 95. Which consisted of a tape which ppl have no idea anymore
NAIL aged a lot, lot better.
God DAMN, your voice aged magnificently.
You and your ensemble need to start touring yesterday.
His looks too, I don't know how he did it

I love Jim's vocal performance and how he can compares to how he sounded more than 20 years ago
one of those few musicians who has truly evolved over the years and kept his music genuinely diverse
My nephew and I saw this man last night. Very special experience indeed.
Why oh why didn't I hear about this concert?!
I REMEMBER BLASTING BUTTERFLY POTION FROM MY SPEAKERS IN MY WINDOW
Brilliant!
Love these performances! This needs a physical release
God bless. Fantastic. Thank God Foetus is an actual musician and has maintained his singing ability all these years.
I adore the contrast of the piece vs your all-white appearance. 💜
This is just so lovely.

@@TheDrapetomanic I know right
Tomorrow is the First of September. Damn Jim, this is awesome
Foetus Resurrectus
Still going strong this guy. Love him after all these years!
Want you in Moscow. Right. Now. People don't live forever, y'know! Neither us, nor you. Now, come! We're waiting for you since forever!

would totally love to see the re-release of his old albums in the "+ Ensemble" format

I can't believe he's real
You are just so incredible. One of my absolute paragons (like I'm getting even half way there).
This is fantastic!! Wonderful and thanks for posting. It's been decades since I last saw Jim live.....
My youth.
❤️ to JG.
This is so gorgeous.
I'm happy he still gets work.
If he ever comes to CA, you bet your ass I'm gonna come.
Love this!!
the mama cass line is the funniest thing I've heard.

Hasn't lost his edge
Hail Nail

This crowd has no idea who Jim is
wtf i assumed that he was a big dude with a beard or something
cold day in hell
So did THE BIRTHDAY PARTY DUDE steal his act ? Or were they symbiotic ?

I'm not sure if Thrliwell looks bad or good for his age. One thing is sure, he did a LOT of drugs.
hell yeah!
