I loved hearing all the negative comments about his Toronto show - this was back in '85. I loved the show. Can honestly say I have never seen anything quite like Foetus live.

I remember watching this in '85, first time I'd heard of Jim Thirlwell/Foetus, pretty good to say it's just him and a backing tape. Interesting guy and very underrated, even today.

10 years later jim develops a fucking awful american accent, which i really wish he hadn't! His 90's and 00's interviews are virtually unwatchable because of it!!

Foetus is better with a live band. The songs have more impact. Last time I saw him at The Mercury Lounge in NYC they played "Throne of Agony" and it was awesome.

I saw him in Atlanta, Georgia. The club he played in was decorated with real pig heads and a group of skinheads tore them down and threw them at cars driving down the street. lol

i booked that show. i was 16 & had no experience booking shows. i got the pig heads from a butcher shop & lydia & i strung wire through their heads so we could hang them around the stage.

One of the most utterly memorable and unique bands ever. I played this song to death for about 10 yrs, still remember all the lyrics now (which were genius). Nothing comes close for originality. Long live Jim Thirwell.

Muriel was Rector of Edinburgh Uni back in the late 80s. And in 1990 the President of the Student's Association was a Glasgow boy, Gerry Corish, former president of the debates society, and a sharp wit. Muriel had come into a lot of flack for not being around Edinburgh that much, what with having to spend all that time down in Soho and TV-land, y'ken. At the Union Dinner in Oct 1990, which Ms Gray turned up to (she got a free ticket after all) Gerry delivered a great one liner: "What's the difference between Lord Lucan, Shergar and Muriel Gray? People claim that Lucan and Shergar have been sighted in Edinburgh in the last year". Cue laughter from the students, and waterworks from her. I thought that Corish was a bit mean - and I wouldn't have mentioned it if she'd been less of a git to Jim in this clip. [sorry it took 7 years to reply to you!]

Muriel really does herself no favours here. The Tube should have gotten Jim interviewed by Paula or Jools, not the understudy.
I was present when Muriel, as Rector of Edinburgh Uni, was reduced to tears by the then President of EUSA. If anyone expresses any interest, I'll repeat the joke that did it ...

I don't know why I'm being fair to Muriel, but it's a beautiful sunny morning, even if I still abide by the Jim T. school of sun evasion ny any means necessary.
Anyway, I don't think the Immaculate Consumptives' school of deliberate provocation was within the ken of a by the numbers feminist like Ms.Gray (and Foetus is a feminist too, as is Lydia and everyone else who isn't an incel or similar misogynist).
Actually, maybe i shoulda written JG Thirlwell, that sober and upstanding composer. I think 'foetus' still considers a woman's place to be on his face, and how would we get all the classic art if these gentlemen were ever in the same place at the same time?
