@nightfallalicorn4246 Ive been trophy hunting on this and on mgs3 the past few days, and I learned the same thing trying to get the Big Boss rank and the Foxhound rank on mgs2.
9:17 The guard outside the door was close enough to hear it. European Extreme is any alert phase, not just being seen. Loud weapons too close to a guard will also trigger alert.
I'm sure that is the reason. I have never had an alert there in that area because you can get away with loud noises due to the engine noise in the background

Here's some tips for the Ray fight. What attack the center Ray goes for is completely determined by how close you are to it. At the closest range it'll try to stomp you, which you can easily dodge with the cartwheel. A bit further away and it'll do the water cutter, which is easy to dodge just by running parallel to the Ray. Further still and it will fire bullets which you dodge by moving forward or back. And at the max range it will fire the knee rockets, so you definitely want to stay out of the max range. My strat is to trigger the water cutter attack, dodge and immediately shoot it in the face before the attack ends which counts as a critical hit because the mouth is open. This means you don't have to hit the knees first. If your quick you can even take pot shots at the Rays on the sides before the one on the platform has time to shoot another water cutter. When you kill the Ray that's on the platform you have plenty of time shoot the others in the knee and then the face once or twice before the next one jumps up. Also if you shoot them in the face as they're breathing out that blue mist, that also counts as a crit. I actually really like this fight, even on the highest difficulties. It takes a lot of focus but once you get into a good rhythm, it's not that bad.
Yeah, for sure. if you havce it down on normal without getting hit, you can do EE. The difficulty is the length of time to concentrate and stay focussed. its an endurance test above all else. Actually a fun fight though tbf

That's some kind of dedication. You have my respect for certain, Sir. I'd love to see other challenge runs of older games like this; it's always fun to see how far you can push the limits of a game.

While MGS1 has the best game story I have seen, MGS2 is indeed quite a game in many ways too. I remember doing it in BBE difficulty and stopped at the Solidus torture after the RAYs. The RAYs itself is of course a nightmare in its own, especially when playing it without the help of YT nearly 20 years back (and that is not to say that Fatman, Harrier and the first Vamp fight is easy). Also need to mention how Kojima foresee the internet development leading to people having more disagreement than mutual understanding, and how Raiden is talking to an AI... I need scissors, 61!

Impressive stuff here, along with everyone else, I’ve completed this game a number of times over the years. I think it’s about time for another play through soon lol. Thanks for all the tips!
I like that this showed me several things I never knew about the game. Like the stack of magazines on the locker, or that you can break the grates with the nakita launcher.
Damn, i've been playing MGS2 for about 15 years now, had no idea you could destroy the vents in the president nikita section, you really never stop learning things about MGS
cozy connoisseur would have been the channel. I saw that run too, but when I saw there were some ways to avoid using the tranq even more in a couple of boss fights I felt I had something I could add
Your skill at the game is undeniable, but 3 minutes into your 2 hour video and you answer your question. Would love to see you take on a more achievable challenge.
I love watching you play these because when I tried European extreme I thought it was impossible. I couldn't even enjoy the game with it being so difficult
Same. First time I tried Euro Extreme I thought it was insurmountable. But once you have figured out how it kinda works... its not too bad. I found I was guessing how the game worked rather than how it actually worked, making it much harder
This is awesome! On the ps2, many moons ago, my run ended after the Rays and just before the end fight with Solidus. I have health issues that affect the mobility in my hands and it was just not possible for me to beat the torture scene 😭 but I absolutely love your run through, it reminded me of a different time and how much I loved speedrunning this game, which really made me smile, thank you! 😊 I also really like the explanations you give and how you talk through everything, I'd never seen that strategy in the Fatman fight before! It was really amusing! 😂😊
They made the torture scene easier on the HD collection because it was so difficult on the original. So you might be able to have some better luck with that! Also, iirc there isn't any turbo protection like MGS1, so that might be an option for you. Glad you enjoyed the video!
What the hell happened here? 54:30 I've never seen a guard just randomly shoot for no reason like that. Also you can see the shot hit the wall behind you but if you look at the radar you can see that neither of the guards were even facing you. I've been playing this game for almost 20 years and I've never seen that!
I want to say while shooting out the bomb sensors on the shell 1-2 connecting bridge, you can use a second controller to move the flag to other side of the flag pole? Great video, I'm about half way through and enjoying it. I adore the MGS series so I'll be checking out more of your stuff down the line 👍
I was so proud of myself when I beat MGS2 on E-EX as a teen haha 06/17/2011 … good times , the golden days of cod4 , ps2 classics and endless summer nights
I love these challenges. In high school, i did mgs1 extreme big boss rank, minimal kills and minimal alerts, no damage. The jeep section is possible, but the rng is near impropable and i only ever had it happen once in my life.
You can make it far more consistent. On the jeep section if you connect a second controller you can move the guards around. Which stops shooting as much
Incredible stuff, I wouldn't count Emma and the president as kills but it's even more impressive that you did and replayed the whole thing just for a zero at the end of the run
Everybody probably knows it, but second phase of Solidus is so much easier if you just stand in a corner (the one where you can't fall off the edges). You never catch on fire, and blocking attacks becomes trivial, no matter the difficulty setting.
9:17 maybe try putting the guard you knocked out in the locker, it's been a while since I played mgs2 but either I assume the gun woke up the guard or just the guard outside heard you.
Yes. I did that like 20 years ago. It was not that hard.

Did that too. Not on hardest difficulty however... was quite the opposite tbf. But I almost ONLY used letal firearms so same thing

Impressive stuff here, along with everyone else, I’ve completed this game a number of times over the years. I think it’s about time for another play through soon lol. Thanks for all the tips!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome vid man. U got a new subscriber because of this vid. Keep the vids comin. Your pretty good.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Glad you had fun
I like that this showed me several things I never knew about the game. Like the stack of magazines on the locker, or that you can break the grates with the nakita launcher.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Damn, i've been playing MGS2 for about 15 years now, had no idea you could destroy the vents in the president nikita section, you really never stop learning things about MGS
It's crazy how many small interactions and little bits of depth are in these games isn't it
Saw a dude do this in 1:30 hrs but Solid Run and great commentary. Thanx for the upload.✌🏻🤘🏻
cozy connoisseur would have been the channel. I saw that run too, but when I saw there were some ways to avoid using the tranq even more in a couple of boss fights I felt I had something I could add
Your skill at the game is undeniable, but 3 minutes into your 2 hour video and you answer your question. Would love to see you take on a more achievable challenge.
I agree that was a bit of an unfortunate thing in this game.
In regards to more doable, you should see my other videos
The ridiculous ray fight at the end is kinda why I haven’t trie harder difficulties than normal. Shit just keeps going 😂
Its definitely a gruelling fight!
Glad you went back through the game after you realized your kills. Very cool sequence too. Much integrity
If something is worth doing, its worth doing properly
Did you straight up not upload for two years than upload a banger
Thank you! And I am glad you think so!
1:30:30(ish) - the fact that they only recorded One scream for Emma is hilarious
its a great sound clip ngl
An idea for a challenge run: Normal/hard difficulty MGS3 game, but kill everyone in every map.
Jack The Ripper% sounds fun
MGS2 is in my Top 15 VideoGames of All Time
Ditto
This is awesome! On the ps2, many moons ago, my run ended after the Rays and just before the end fight with Solidus. I have health issues that affect the mobility in my hands and it was just not possible for me to beat the torture scene 😭 but I absolutely love your run through, it reminded me of a different time and how much I loved speedrunning this game, which really made me smile, thank you! 😊
I also really like the explanations you give and how you talk through everything, I'd never seen that strategy in the Fatman fight before! It was really amusing! 😂😊
They made the torture scene easier on the HD collection because it was so difficult on the original. So you might be able to have some better luck with that!
Also, iirc there isn't any turbo protection like MGS1, so that might be an option for you.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video man. Really love the content. I only wish the MGS3 video was as long. Keep up the good work. Subscribed.
Much appreciated!
Those memories! Thx so much for the video ❤
What the hell happened here? 54:30 I've never seen a guard just randomly shoot for no reason like that. Also you can see the shot hit the wall behind you but if you look at the radar you can see that neither of the guards were even facing you. I've been playing this game for almost 20 years and I've never seen that!
I think, they are maybe in the clearing phase somewhere else. But that was weird
"Alright that's done. Unfortunately the president has died..." 😂
I want to say while shooting out the bomb sensors on the shell 1-2 connecting bridge, you can use a second controller to move the flag to other side of the flag pole?
Great video, I'm about half way through and enjoying it. I adore the MGS series so I'll be checking out more of your stuff down the line 👍
you can WHAT!? Thats amazing, I didnt know that. Glad you had fun!
my blood went cold when you decided to start over; I respect the commitment and fear the mind that would commit
@@Vulgar_Worlock if something is worth doing. It's worth doing properly
Wow that sediment pool run looked like you took a long time to figure it out! Well done, thanks for the memories
It did, was a right pain to do. glad you enjoyed the video!
Yes we can finish the game without using the medicinc in extreme mod.. Because we can't find medicinc
The first time I seen the jet fighter I was blown away. It was incredible.
19:35
not quite good enough "yet" to play without.
love it
Got to be honest havent I
I love metal gear challenge runs, very cool man
Next time: will turning up yhe thermostat really make my dad come back?
Maybe this time he will
I was so proud of myself when I beat MGS2 on E-EX as a teen haha 06/17/2011 … good times , the golden days of cod4 , ps2 classics and endless summer nights
You sir, are an absolute mad lad.
I try my best
Nice to see a new creator. Earned a sub for excellent content.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
*_Did you know?_*
-The commandant has a daughter.
Cool video and nicely done. Just subbed
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
I love these challenges.
Which stops shooting as much
@@sirrando this was years before it was discovered. We're talking like 2010
I know that. It was just incase you weren't aware for your future attempts
Incredible stuff, I wouldn't count Emma and the president as kills but it's even more impressive that you did and replayed the whole thing just for a zero at the end of the run
It just wouldn't sit right with me if it had a number. I haven't proved I can do it at that point. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Everybody probably knows it, but second phase of Solidus is so much easier if you just stand in a corner (the one where you can't fall off the edges). You never catch on fire, and blocking attacks becomes trivial, no matter the difficulty setting.
Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip!
Never thought I'd be watching Clive Owen do mgs2 challenges. 10/10 content
Clive opens is far more handsome than me, I will take it!
Earned a sub with that commitment
"I was choking him for quite a while here" - Sir Rando (not a serial killer, he promises)
👀
this game was personally my hardest game to get a big boss rank on
Congrats! The save restrictions can make it very nerve wracking for sure
love the video hope there’s a mgs4 video coming!
There will be at some point. But not for a while
9:17 maybe try putting the guard you knocked out in the locker, it's been a while since I played mgs2 but either I assume the gun woke up the guard or just the guard outside heard you.
I think nite was probably the outside guard and I wasn't fast enough. I'm not sure about putting him in the locker. Would have to check
Your amazing m8 being a fan of metal gear solid since the beginning I absolutely these games
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
