I remember this game back in the day. I've been a life-long 49er fan and I still have to say 2 things about Terrell Owens. First, the guy is a ridiculously great athlete. Seeing him being about to put defenders on their ass after he caught the ball was amazing to watch. Second, the guy was absolute locker-room cancer. I don't know if I've ever seen someone sew discord in a team anywhere near as badly as TO did both in San Francisco and Philidelphia. He'd somehow manage to carry his team into the playoffs, then damned near break the team apart once they were knocked out of the playoffs because everyone hated each other. To be the cause of both is just unbelievable. I just don't know how someone can be so good and so bad at the exact same time.
Same here. Lifelong Niner fan and I was thrilled when TO was gone. He whined about Garcia not going deep enough. So they put Rattay in, who had a hell of an arm, then TO dropped pass after pass right on his hands. Hell, in the "The Catch 2" game, it wouldn't even have been close if TO hadn't been dropping passes in the endzone.
Righttttt…. Because you were in the lose locker rooms with those teams, as a teammate. Or maybe you just seen he was a bit of a pain in the ass but just went with what the media is old you… who also weren’t in the locker rooms with them. Many more teammates have come out and said the contrary, than had come out and said he was a cancer. Be a leader. Not a dude who takes someone else’s word for it.
@@UnoJimenezmy uncle played with him(Koy Detmer) in Philly and yes he is a cancer. Never was accountable, always blamed others even when it was his fault. One time the QBs and WRs went out to dinner and he stiffed them with a $20000 bill another time he shat in someone’s duffel bag because he didn’t like him.
Still hate that they chose TO over Garcia. But keeping the best WR in the league over a seemingly older QB is a mistake a lot of teams would have made back then.

Wow. That's wild. This being before Eli I always forget that there was a time before Eli came in and saved the Giants. He was the franchise QB they never had in Kerri Collins.
I remember this game vividly. I was 10 years old and my dad almost broke our tv. But really I’m grateful for this game. The team lacked discipline and folded under pressure. The following season was a dud and In come Coughlin and Eli for the 04 season.
i cant believe the lack of discipline on some of these players! one minute left in a playoff game and youre losing your cool. also absolutely love this era of nfl such a golden time!
I remember seeing this live, what a nerve racking game. I remember the whole "scoreboard!" schtick from Strahan at the time. Every 49ers fan wanted a piece of him. I can't tell you how gratifying it was to see him walk off the field in disgust 51:11 Also a little nugget - Strahan getting a blowie from his trainer seconds before the kick 50:13.
I am so glad you included all the action as someone mentioned below. I hadn't seen the game, and didn't realize all the shenanigans that occurred late in the game. Giants really undone by their long snapper in this game. Garcia was ice cold in his demeanor in the final 25 minutes.
Long time niners fans know Giants in the playoffs are intense games, unfortunately the Giants have gotten the better of us in the playoffs… dating back to the LT days in the 80s, they beat us in the early 90s to prevent us from 3peating and they beat the Jim Harbaugh Alex Smith team that I thought had a chance to win the SB. Tough losses.
@@briant3974 - I don't care about perception based tiers of a team. I was speaking on a period of good games between the Giants and the 49ers. Specifically in the 1980s with my childhood.

I'm glad you were able to see this game replay. It's like me watching game replays of the 70s 80s and early 90s as being new to me.
Watched the recent Tom Brady interview and he mentioned that when you see teammates celebrating a TD or sack by themselves, it’s all you need to know about how that guy is in the locker room. T.O. did A LOT of solo celebrations. Great ball player….too toxic
Troy Aikman and Cris Collinsworth expressing their disgust with the Giants safeties is pretty good. Great way to go. Impressive by the analysts. Great thriller of a game

@@brettgb6073what’s crazy is that people praise pat summerall for being a legendary broadcaster when he was just as boring/monotone (even more so) as Buck was back then.
Stratham pointing at the scoreboard after the 2-point conversion really exposes how these comebacks happen. Teams get up big start thinking it’s over, let the other team get momentum, and by time they realize they’re in danger they’re flailing and panicked.
UA-cam recommended this video to me today, one day after Dan Campbell the head coach of the Lions blew a 17 point lead in a playoff game against the Niners. I see Dan Campbell played TE for the Giants who also blew a lead against the Niners. Mind blown 🤯 lol 😂
1. Niners won….2.Strahan got the last laugh 5 years later when his Giants whipped TO’s #1 seeded Cowboys in 2007 Divisional round….sadly I am a Cowboys fan 😔
I still remember this game! I saw it live, I fell asleep in the third quarter when the Giants were up 38-14. I woke up, and the next thing I know, the 49ers are getting ready to score and they take the 39-38 lead! I was like, "WHAT THE FUCK?!!! HOW?!!!" Man, that game was insane!
I would've went one more play BEFORE sending the FG unit in. They had one timeout left. A quick pass towards the sideline with just 2 or 3 seconds left, and if the receiver catches it, either get down or go out of bounds. The Giants had time for one more play.
I saw this game in person. I still laugh at the fans that left when it was 38-14. By the way, Julian Peterson needs to be more recognized as a great LB.
I remember watching this, and the second that Strahan pointed to the scoreboard after T.O. scored, I KNEW the NYG were going to be in trouble. At the time, Jeff García was a guy who could get streaky. I felt so bad for Trey Junkin. The guy was retired, qnd literally lying on the couch when NYG called. You're up by 24 points with 17 minutes left, dominating the whole time, you don't blame the long snapper for losing.
Somebody on the kicking unit will always get blamed when they don't save the team's ass. As a former dedicated Vikings fan, I think of Blair Walsh vs. Seattle, who was blamed for missing an easy FG but nobody blamed the SCORELESS offense. I also think of Gary Anderson, whose ONLY MISS of the entire season is blamed for their loss to Atlanta, despite the defense being the real reason - allowing ATL to march right down and score immediately after to tie it up.
For Junkin, the Giants' long snapper, this was his last game in his NFL career. What an awful way to end it. As for their kicker, 27 year old rookie Matt Bryant, who'd go on to play until he was 44 (in 2019) primarily for the Falcons, being known as one of the best kickers in the NFL over his career. Not the way you'd like to start, though 😂
Great nuggets. Poor Trey Junkin. Dude just didn't have it that day. Matt Bryant FG was one of the worse I've ever seen from a pro. He def turned it around though to have a VERY successful career.

Never get tired of seeing the Niners beating the Giants. But this era of the 49ers were frustrating to watch in the playoffs as their defense gave up too many points.
The funniest thing about this is it actually was a huge mistake. The NFL famously apologized to the Giants after this game - not that it meant anything. The officials completely blew the call on the last play of the game and the NFL has now instituted a rule forcing the officials to conference. One ref thought Seubert - who was a tight end in college and was about to catch the easy toss - was the illegal man downfield (he wasn't: he had reported and was announced as eligible) so he picked up the flag he threw for the blatant pass interference. The illegal man was actually #65, Tam Hopkins (summarily cut afterwards, ending his short career) and the flag thrown by a completely different ref. Correctly called, the pass interference and ineligible man downfield penalties would have offset, and the Giants should have been given another down to kick the chip shot field goal and win. Instead this loss in the Wild Card game ended the Giants season - on a blown call. Interestingly the long snapper (Trey Junkin) had 19 seasons as a long snapping specialist and had never been charged in his whole career with a bad snap. He retired after this game.
Did anyone else catch the Dan Campbell coincident? His team went up big, then got walked down by the Niners 😮, and the Niners were being led by a mobile QB.😮😮

Hell of an athlete.. not nearly the quality hands of Randy Moss
@@TarnishedtheGOAT shitting in someone's duffle bag is psycho behavior!
I always thought Garcia was so underrated. He had that "it" thing. Good QB.
Still hate that they chose TO over Garcia. But keeping the best WR in the league over a seemingly older QB is a mistake a lot of teams would have made back then.
@@Riceball80IAguy was only good cause of TO tho
@@josemandujano5614 And the Niners ended up losing TO anyway and no QB beside missing out on drafting Brady.
Totally agree, the same sauce that Brees, Theisman and Fran Tarkenten had.😊
Cris Collinsworth Buck and Aikman elite trio of announcers I miss this as a kid maybe it’s just pure nostalgia
Collinsworth's energy compliments with Buck/Aikman deapan reaction very well
Also the old FOX sound effects/tunes
I am with you on that Nostalgia Theory it hits really hard when I remember watching this games at my Moms with not a worry in the world except for just getting my Progress Report (School Grades) sign was my biggest worry!!!! 😢😂😊😅😢😅😅😂.
But some AWESOME MEMORIES!!!!!
Buck and Aikman are and have always been awful
Collinsworth is okay but he can be annoying
Horrible trio
Who's here after that comeback against the lions with Purdy
Strahan pointing to the scoreboard in TOS face after the 2 pt. Iconic. Eat it strahan.
Strahan can dish it out but can’t take it, man walked off the field the minute the game was over to avoid Owens pointing out the scoreboard
As a 49er fan this was one of the most fortunate victories we have ever witnessed lol. Definitely one of the wildest endings ever…
8:44 what an underrated play call that Garcia QB keeper was... caught them so off guard. Also, they should have never left Candlestick park.
Eerily similar to Alex Smith's run down that same sideline vs the Saints
49ers and Giants have always had a low key rivalry in my opinion
Man, I appreciate you showing the full rollercoaster from late 3rd quarter instead of just the highlight reel TD stuff. Got to relive every heart attack moment - that 4th & 5 conversion, Reynolds almost dropping that bomb from Goff, St. Brown going God mode, every time our defense somehow held up... even caught myself holding my breath during plays I KNEW we won 😭 Those last 20 minutes felt like 3 hours when watching live and somehow you captured all that tension perfectly. This wasn't just a game, it was a whole movie. 🦁
3:19 ... That scoreboard update shows the Steelers huge comeback win against the Browns after trailing 24-7...
So that day had two big comeback games with insane endings
This my era, or what I personally call it, watched NFL die hard from 1999 up until raiders left, loved Jeff Garcia man he was good and their coach he iconic when I see his face now lol
I feel bad for Trey Junkin, to have a nearly 20-year NFL career end like that is just heartbreaking.
From 2 decade vet to probably receiving death threats
He's got plenty of money. It's just a game. Money is not
He was scapegoated big time. Trey Junkin didn't blow a 24 point lead
😂😂😂

There was something magical about being there in person at Candlestick Park for home games. I miss seeing that place.
Strahan stomping off in defeat😂 TO laughing😂😂😂 What a great game. Garcia was a stud.
That Jeff Garcia touchdown run @ 8:50 reminds of the 49ers vs Saints 2011 Divisional game when Alex Smith ran it in for a touchdown.
I'm a raiders fan but being a Bay area native you can imagine I'm surrounded by niner fans like my dad who grew up in the city but you don't have to be a 9ers fan to know that we try and forget about Alex Smith what a bust
I mean he had his Renaissance on the Redskins and think about how mediocre he was there and wasn't he a first-round pick God what a waste
Me too
Wow. That's wild. This being before Eli I always forget that there was a time before Eli came in and saved the Giants. He was the franchise QB they never had in Kerri Collins.
Yeah, after the simms era ended, the giants were mediocre before Eli came along
Collins did take the Giants to the Super Bowl one year, but they got beat badly by the Ravens.
Eli was mid, he was carried by the defense those 2 years, and sucked the other years
It wasn’t just Eli. Tom Coughlin made them a better team. No disrespect to Jim Fassell who passed away. Tom had some good years in Jacksonville.
*Kerry Collins
I can't tell you how gratifying it was to see him walk off the field in disgust 51:11
Also a little nugget - Strahan getting a blowie from his trainer seconds before the kick 50:13.
I saw the blowie too I was like WTF is going on over here 😂😂😂

I am so glad you included all the action as someone mentioned below. I hadn't seen the game, and didn't realize all the shenanigans that occurred late in the game.
Giants really undone by their long snapper in this game.
Garcia was ice cold in his demeanor in the final 25 minutes.
G😅c
T.O. was an NFL treat. The roar of that 49er crowd is legendary. Strahan's pouting is priceless.
We tend to always reminisce on the 49ers/Cowboys rivalry. 49ers and the Giants have their own memorable rivalry, specifically in the playoffs.
Yep. The Parcell Giants were the only team that kept the 49ers from at least 1 and probably 2 more championships.
Not really. Giants have been and are a second tier NFL team at best.
@@briant3974 - I don't care about perception based tiers of a team. I was speaking on a period of good games between the Giants and the 49ers. Specifically in the 1980s with my childhood.

Jason Garrett too 😂
I remember watching this game back in the day. I knew the outcome but still was on the edge of my seat watching it here.

this game happened when i was 1 year old. i’m now 22 and a die hard niner fan, faithful from day one ❤️💛❤️💛 garcia played a great game this game it’s insane
I was in my late teens watching this live as a die hard niners fan. It's crazy to fathom die hard niner fans not knowing about these types of games because they were too young or weren't born yet. I'm glad you were able to see this game replay. It's like me watching game replays of the 70s 80s and early 90s as being new to me.
T.O. just trolling near the end lmao 😂
New York Giants Against San Francisco 49ers NFC Divisional Playoffs Last Meeting In 1993 Thanks For Uploading
Watched the recent Tom Brady interview and he mentioned that when you see teammates celebrating a TD or sack by themselves, it’s all you need to know about how that guy is in the locker room. T.O. did A LOT of solo celebrations. Great ball player….too toxic
Never realized how big Coach Dan Cambell is. Until you see him sitting on the sidelines with teammates dwarfing them lol
Troy Aikman and Cris Collinsworth expressing their disgust with the Giants safeties is pretty good.
Great way to go.
Impressive by the analysts.
Great thriller of a game
I was at this football game.
I took two of my nephews and it was their very first NFL game needless to say we had a great time

T.O. was absolutely dominant in this one. This comeback was insane. '03.
This was when Joe Buck showed very little to no genuine emotion up until the 2010s
I always wondered why people say he shows no emotion like "what are you even listening to?" then I go back to what he used to sound like, and now I understand. People remember how he used to be, made up their mind, and still see him that way to this day.

51:10 Strahan got out of there real quick. 😂
Funny especially before that when he pointed at the scoreboard to T.O.
God that's satisfying 😂
Strahan running up to TO and pointing at the scoreboard after that two point conversion lol
U slept thru all that noise ? Lol were u a baby or older ?

Strahan pointing to the scoreboard is one of my favorite moments in football history with how this game ended.
We need a 30 for 30 just on this game please!
I second this.
Signed 4 days before the game.
This was on the Giants defense, they self destructed, and lost the game. Blaming it on the snapper was just dishonest.
@@squirrelydan3As a Seahawks fan, i can attest. The Vikings got us back by trading that kicker to us🤦♂️
both the offense and defense imploded in that game

NFL was so good back then. Way better than today.
It wasn't a Jeff Garcia pass completion without at least two hops towards the line of scrimmage.

I had forgotten how satisfying it is to watch Jeremy Shockey lose.

52 minutes of this ending hell, yeah!
And the Giants got Karma
I watched this game in a Hooters in New York wearing a Terrell Owens jersey. Never in my life have I ever enjoyed being the villain more.
