Wait, shouldn't a punk fan already be an ST fan???
It's the biggest generational thing I notice. When I was a kid "new music" was a big deal and you'd need to read music magazines/fanzines to learn history and where bands came from - hell, reading the "thanks list" on an album was often an education. Kids these days can't even bother to look at wikipedia.
that's what I thought
Amen! I was thinking the same thing.
1984 a punk rocker gave me this tape and i dived into hardcore punk and have been swimming in it ever since.
All he wanted was a pepsi
Just one Pepsi!
Suicidal Tendencies is the debut studio album by American hardcore punk band Suicidal Tendencies, released on July 5, 1983 through Frontier Records. Regarded as one of the best-selling and most successful punk albums to date. They were a bit of a mix Hardcore / Thrash / Metal (never rap). To be a fan of punk and not know the first ST album makes me think he was more into Blink 182 or other 90's bubble gum pop punk.
I am going to be showing Mika all types of punk, from hardcore to pop-punk to folk, from the 1970s to 2024. This is just one of the bands I missed! ~Liam
@@DastardlyHamster Well then you should start from the beginning with "The Stooges" who were arguably the first band of punk rock music. Along with another important punk rock band named "Bad Brains" who were the pioneers of the "Hardcore Punk" music genre. Just saying... 🤘😜🤘
We actually did several Bad Brains reactions months ago before the channel launched, but we still were figuring out how to do it, and that footage wasn't recorded properly. We will return to them in the future, for sure!@@216Numbskull
The punk scene in the mid-late 80s brought in bands like DT, Black Flag, SOD (Stormtroopers of Death) and Misfits.
A lot of it was real punk that was adding in a heavy metal element.
WHAT?? Black Flag and Misfits were born in the 70's!!!!! Glen Danzig formed Samhain AFTER Misfits in 1985-6!!
@@nielgregory108 Exactly! Let's keep it a buck, preach it my friend. 🤘😜🤘
DRI
I love Mika "singing" along.
The lead guitar is soloing through out most the song.
"You Can't Bring Me Down," is a good Suicidal track.
"You wouldn't know what crazy was if Charles Manson was eating Fruit Loops on your front porch!" 😂
---edit---
I just saw you have a video showing him "You Can't Bring Me Down."
I'm going to watch that now.
It is a little strange to see the title, because converting a punk fan into an ST fan, when ST is a classic punk band, yes they crossed over into thrash but still. That confuses me. I knew about ST even before I got deep into punk, they were one of my first introductions into the genre when I was a teenager. One of my favorites for sure.
So basically neither one of you guys know what you’re talking about. First of all, to say you’re into punk rock and to not know Suicidal Tendencies were one of the original hardcore punk bands back in the 80s is just ridiculous., That’s like saying that you’re a fan of the NBA but never heard of the Lakers.
And saying you’re a fan of suicidal, but didn’t know they were considered a punk rock band ever, it’s like saying you’re a Lakers fan, but didn’t know they played basketball lol.
anyone who knows anything about Suicidal Tendencies knows that they used to be punk rock and went into that whole thrash metal crossover sound in the late 80s along with a lot of other hardcore bands and became metal, and that they’ve changed their sound many times over the years as well as mixing in funk and also a revolving door of members coming and going.
Exactly! Neither of these two are punk rockers.
I was so lucky to grow up with such kick ass music. ST 🔥
This was the song of my generation, lol. Saw them live in concert, I still say they were the best concert I ever saw.
I'm from Fullerton. D.I. , Adolescent, TSOL, SD , The, Dickies, The Vandals and so many more are the root of So Cal Punk.
What's the next? getting a hip hop fan to listen to tupac? 😂
There's a bucket full of bands who were right beside / were influenced by ST back in the day; so many classic tunes from all of them and it's a deep, deep rabbit hole. Enjoy :D (and bring me a Pepsi would you? Just one Pepsi)
The dad in the video is legendary cult actor jack nance who was in almost every david lynch movie. Examples eraserhead, blue velvet, wild at heart, twin peaks, etc.
Everyone can identify with prototypical teenage angst. Bluesy vamp with teen rant, punk riffage and acceleration. Odd timing. What's not to love? ❤️
Like some people have pointed out - this band is legendary "old school" punk, I am guessing neither of you were born in the early 80's, so it would be reasonable to se how you could miss this older stuff. With that said, Mike Muir had an interesting side project called Infectious Grooves - they put out a lot of good stuff that you should check out also. It was still punk-ish but with a groove and a twang. Mike always wrote stuff on the lighter side of things, but also trapped in his head and just full of angst - or just pure goof. Enjoy the trip! 🤘
I was 13 years old when this came out, so it hit pretty hard.
At the time, they were skater/thrash metal. Please, please, please do How Will I Laugh Tomorrow.
Notice that Mike’s mom on the video was the principle in the movie Rock N Roll high school
This isnt very far from punk music , not surprised you like it.
Surf/skate punk. Join the army is good, how will I laugh tomorrow or nobody hears are great songs
Lived this, punk scene. I'm still crazy.
My first tattoo 🤟🏻
ST used to be my favorite band back in the day! Oh how I love this band!
5:00 just one Pepsi so true
Skater speed thrash post punk metal.....its like oh yeah.....🤟👍✌️ Loose trucks save lives...
ST is more hardcore punk… along with D.R.I. & S.O.D. (among others), they mixed punk & metal and is also, quite often, reffered to as ‘skater metal’ as it was very popular among the skateboarders (in the background of the vid you can see a couple skaters).
Actually all 3 of the bands you mentioned were the birth of crossover.
Hardcore would be more along the lines of Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, etc... Not to be confused with New York Hard Core; Sick of it All, Gorilla Biscuts, etc...
All I wanted was a Pepsi... just one pepsi
Yeah ST was a big hit on the boombox during breaks in my 1st band ( garage band ) back in the late 80s early 90s . LOL Fun times those were
AFI reference was on point!!
The first record is LA hardcore punk the second is crossover and from the third they were pretty much a thrash band
I didn't know this was by ST. I also thought War Inside My Head was a Wall.
I think Dayglo Abortion was into this group, theyre unchained also.
I've loved this sh!t since I first heard it. 😊
Possessed to Skate
How is this even possible?
Crossover is the term back in the 80s
All he wanted was a Pepsi.......smh.......
They are hardcore/ crossover punk
These kids are hitting me right in the age. Ow.
Oh snap that Tom Araya cameo flew right past them. Ow.
ST is considered crossover thrash which is hardcore bands switching over to thrash but keeping hardcore elements
Hes not getting the car anyway
ST shows were insane. The best one I ever saw was ST and Voivod.
Suicidal is definitely a punk band
This song is my teenage rebellion :D
That was Tom Araya that pushed him
Wow, great reaction and great format. Here you have a new subscriber, number...78
I hope this channel grows a lot.
A big hug from Spain!!
Thank you so much!! The channel is growing much faster than we expected! ~Mika
you like Dead Milkmen...???
You gotta play him I Saw Your Mommy
I don't have to convert because the faster, original version already was punk. And as far as Metal goes, when the music isn't inspired by coitus and/or substances, or anti-social, there's not much of a corpus of work there, is there :)
I've been into suicidal since the first album. when it was voted worst album of the yea
They were really big with the skaters
I think they have some of the greatest albums
Must do.How will I laugh tomorrow?If I can't even smile today
I mean...these guys influenced...Metallica...no bullshit (bass player)
love the concept of your channel
ST was punk.
Now do the Body Count version! ua-cam.com/video/X9jXnZS3ouU/v-deo.htmlsi=eLOGASDh8tj8WJ9H 😂
s.T. too punk for metal to metal for punk!!
New fan to your channel and I think this is a great experiment you two are doing! I'm an original Metal Head that has still not grown up and I love watching people get into new bands and especially the metal genre. ;-)
ST started as a punk band, so I'm glad you got your introduction to them with this song. The entire album is killer punk with some metal elements.
I would LOVE for you to check out Body Count's cover of this. Hearing Ice-T and his metal band do this cover is amazing and the updated "modern" lyrics are fantastic (there is a lot of swearing fyi) ua-cam.com/video/X9jXnZS3ouU/v-deo.html
Thank you so much, we loved your comments! I will ask Mika about listening to that cover... ~Liam
They were NEVER "rap metal". "Institutionalized" is the only song where Mike even comes close to rapping.
Join the New Army Mike does rap
@@chico4105and sadly enough a big influence on Limp Bizkit 😂
That song came out two years before the anthrax public enemy collaboration so ST did it first. @@chico4105
try some of the new? punk bands comming out of australia
have a listen to amyl an the sniffers
Noted! I will check them out! ~Liam
These ST reactions are the first videos we recorded but they're out of order because we were waiting on a copyright claim to resolve. Sorry about that!
Maybe try Fear i love living in the city . Fear played on Saturday Night Live and the fans destroy the place . They are still banned 40 year later . I discovered them in 1987 at a import record shop that had a sign listing categories in the back of the store saying “ This section Punk / Hardcore/ And some of the ugliest people on earth abusing musical instruments “
I bought Fear the record and Fear More beer . Never regretted it.
Limp Bizkit? So off! ST was skate punk in the early days then they strayed into cross over thrash.
just great Band ... like your choice of Bands-Reactions. Do you no "Life of Agony" from the 90#s great and fuckin# cool Band
Thanks, we will have to react to them! ~Mika
They are thrash music
Love suicidal tendencies, but give iceT version ago. It's pretty damn good
Lol what real punk rocker doesnt know who Suicidal is? ...... Original Venice skate punkz!
This song is not like the rest of their catalog. It really annoys me when people don't give Suicidal more of a chance because they think that this is what all their songs sound like.
I prefer Homicidal Tendencies
People of these channels need to get skooled on the artist or group before they start talking
It looks like I hurt somebodies feeling by commenting on how few and carnal are the subject matters of most Metal music. Truth hurts much? It's music for children and middle schoolers, not serious.
Until you look at the unlaying issues of why they feel that way. I get it, you are superficial. That's ok.
Ice-T's metal band called Body Count did a cover of this song and it's great, Body Count in General is great.
Ya'll must do BodyCount's version of this song. BodyCount is Ice-T's metal band.
Send Me Your Money is a great song by SxT.
Punk and crossover trash
First album "Suicidal Tendencies" was hardcore/skate punk.
Second album "Join the Army" was crossover thrash/punk.
Each successive album leaned more away from punk and more toward funk metal.
