    I about died seeing the moth or whatever that was fly out of your prepackaged cereal lol. I'm from California, and now reside in Ghana. I've traveled a bit before settling here, and I surprise myself at how I've been able to let some of the bug stuff go. Some, not all hahahaha!

      Yeah, something about weet-bix here in malaysia...it's so common to find bugs in them! Yikes! Since then we haven't had any bugs, but my husband still ate that batch :/

    I am not a cereal mixer, but it sounds like a good idea. I usually keep one box, but I’ll try two. This is a fun idea.

    Just found your station and love your videos! I live in Florida and find if I freeze rice or flour overnight then seal them in containers if there are eggs in it they won't hatch then and last a long time.🐈

      Oh cool! So you freeze things overnight but then store them in the pantry afterwards? I’ll need to try that!

    I am definitely a serial mixer... I laughed so loud when you said that it just sounds funny.... My favorite is Kashi peanut butter, Chex cereal, and homemade granola the best mix ever!

    I’m an expat on the coast of Kenya. I get it. Bugs and humidity!! I’d eat the cereal too 😂. Unfortunately some of our things come with bugs/eggs. Even after putting things in containers you can later find them 🤢.

      Yes! I hate when I don’t see any bugs but then discover there were eggs in my food that hatched! So gross! Extra protein I guess 😂

      @@TheConscientiousEater would it be possible to freeze things for a bit first? 🤔That may help at least kill them. I freeze our flour after bringing it home for a few days out of habit.

    Tip: Include a bulb of garlic & clove together with your rice to avoid bugs. Yes, they’ll appear despite storing in airtight container.

      Malaysians often have two kitchens. The wet kitchen usually has a window/vent to the outside and it's where they cook spicy/flavorful food so that the smells can escape the house!

    Glad to see you made it back safe! Must feel good to be back in your own place.
    I live in Montana and don't have to worry about bugs getting into my goods, but my mom said in CA she gets bugs, even in items that have been put into containers. Do you find those plastic containers keep out all the bugs?

      Ah that’s so nice to not think about bugs! And sometimes I don’t see bugs in my food when I store it initially, but then see them later. Usually that means there were eggs in the food and they hatched 😬😬

      @@TheConscientiousEater I always carefully check the things I use from my mom's pantry when I visit. She's been storing more and more things in the freezer because of the moths. It would be nice if you had a giant freezer to put things in, would probably kill some of the bugs, kind of like living in MT, 15 below zero this last week.

    Freeze items that get bugs for 3 days. That will kill any bug eggs in those items. Hope this helps!!!

      Basically, they have a wet kitchen where they do more of their cooking involving spices! They have vents that suck all the "spicy" air out so that the whole house doesn't smell. Not sure why they use the words wet and dry??

    I noticed you have hoison sauce. I thought that was a fish sauce. Have you found a vegan one? We have fish allergies so I would be interested in an alternative.

      It's not a fish sauce! I believe more are vegan. You can just check the label to double check as every brand is different.

      I think it was old navy. It’s hard to find clothes that fit here but we had an old navy for a while and that was nice for all of us Americans ☺️

    Have you ever tried date syrup or is it not available where you are? I’ve always been wanting to try it since some say it’s a good replacer for pancake syrup or honey but for now I enjoy maple syrup 😋

      I’m still figuring that out as well! We love mixing it with a little oil and spearing it in flat bread before baking! I need to look up more ways to use it though!

      I suggest adding it on top of hummus (try small amounts and work up to what tastes good). We use different spice mixes to 'change it up' regularly

      Malaysia is a hidden gem! We were living in China but wanted a change. We went to visit friends in Malaysia and fell in love. Malaysia has amazing Southeast Asian culture and diversity, it's cheap, the people are super friendly, everyone speaks English and it's really western/modern so it's easy to move to as foreigners. We love it!

      Nope. Don't think I said it would be! Our pantry items are sometimes foods or used a lot for baking recipes for my blog which caters towards people just starting out on a plant based diet.

      @@TheConscientiousEater I noticed you have access to British and Australian products. You could try golden syrup or treacle as alternatives to honey. Fair warning, they may be a bit of an acquired taste. Those of us that grew up with it don't notice.

    This was fantastic!! I wish I'd had this video when I went plant-based over two years ago. Now I have pretty much what you have in your pantry minus the nuts because my partner has fatal food allergy to nuts and seeds so I can't have them in the house. He's allergic to legumes too but isn't affected by the smell of those (thank goodness!LOL I need my beans!) I'm in Canada and don't have bug problems but my pantry is actually my cold room under the front stairs and it feels moist in there so I keep everything in air-tight containers like you do and no problems. I've been binge-watching your videos and I love them all 🤗 You 're awesome and so likeable!🥰

      Oh, and 5 years of braces, expanders, implants etc. is how my teeth are finally decent. For some reason three of my adult teeth never came in so it was quite a long season. Let’s just say high school wasn’t my best season ☺️

    Oh and I love your label system, I always tape the directions for some of my rices to my jars but this is a great idea to use a dry erase marker.

    Nice video! I’m interested to know more about your life as an American woman in Southeast Asia. What is it like to live in Malaysia? Is it a very conservative country? Is western dress tolerated, for example?

    Did you ever had a problem with Nutritiinal yeast?Mine got bugs on the outside of the cap,it waa so small you could hardly see it moved.I only realised that it was moving after the second time that I used it after just wiping the cap🤢

      They call one the wet kitchen and it often has a vent to the outside. Usually people cook their more flavorful, spicy meals in the wet kitchen so the smells don't stink up the house!

      I don't! In short, my husband and I love Asia and traveling and we are blessed to work online so we can live and work anywhere. I knew nothing about Malaysia until we visited one year and we quickly fell in love. It's a really easy country for expats to live in :)
