Newish Vegan i'd be interested in all kitchen tours and grocery hauls..i want to streamline my food waste and would like new ideas how to shop and handle it..etc! Thank you great Pantry Tour!! I'm going to look at mine and see how i could make it more organized as i forget i have things and double buy etc!
Your pantry is pretty much like mine but I’m an organic person, but your bins is a real good item, for sure. How much does the bins hold? I use spelt flour and oat flour a lot. Just wish we had more space. I don’t use much sugar at all, unless its stevia. I try to use fresh vegetables as much as possible, because this is where you get a lot of your vitamins. I do love cooking garbanzo beans because they taste so much better than can. Then, the liquid I use in soups, which is the bomb! I usually get white beans, pinto, and black beans. I make a homemade tomato sauce, that I found long ago and use that for a lasagna, spaghetti or a low acid marinara sauce. For rice- I use only organic brown basmati rice or jasmine rice ( because of the aroma). Thanks, for taking us along.
I just found your channel today due to this video popping up and I am bingeing your recipes. I am plant based and enjoying all the new ideas from your videos. I love your pantry and back up system. I love you have real food! I enjoy pantry organization videos but at times can't get over how much junk/snacks people put in their pantry on a regular basis. Anyway, I love that you are prepared and have at least (what looks like) 3 months supply at home. I have about 6 months and the security I feel from it is enormous - the world is crazy and who knows what can happen. I always challenge people to really look at what they have in terms of making meals - and how many meals do they really have at home. People think they have more food than they do. I am happy I found your channel. PS: On thing I also stock up on is Bob's Red Mill Potato Flakes - great for so many uses and even a fast mashed potato (enough himalayan salt is key) and I have even used them to make the chez/alfredo types sauces when I don't have real potato on hand. Also put your rice in the freezer for 3-4 days to kill the weevils. Bugs don't like bay leaves either. ; ) Blessings.
We had almost NOTHING in our pantry at the beginning of COVID and it really taught us to change our habits! It is so much more comforting to have food around in case of an emergency or crisis!
consider the instant pot mac and cheese where you throw a potato and carrot or sweet potato in it. then puree potato, carrot, nutritional yeast and spices in blender. exceptional!!
I just checked out my pantry to see what size containers I could use. Your pantry inspired me. I had to throw away some expired items and the packages of other “special” ingredients makes me wish I found your channel sooner. Keep these videos coming. Thank you.
I’m so glad I found your channel. Thank you for spreading the good word! I was wondering where you get those bulk sized bins with the scoops that you have in your pantry. I love that! I have subscribed!
hi i liked the video that gave me an idea of how i can do things when fully vegan: i think i would only need the mason jar of beans, but i like the system u guys do.. aspiring vegan & also want to help the environment
I all ready store in glass containers and made jars. Hadn't thought about bulk storage excellent idea. Will try to incorporate into my pantry. Thank you for sharing.
Have just discovered you and am binge watching. Love this, more please! Yes would to see a fridge/ freezer tour! We keep lots of dry beans and grains, and far fewer cans (or tins as we say in the U.K.) instead I cook a Kg (ish) of beans, mixed grains (think Dr Gregger BROL) in the instant pot, then freeze in portions, ready to chuck into chillis, soups etc. Our kitchen is old and small and pest proof storage tricky, so the freezer is a relatively safe place 🌱🌱
Thank you so much, so happy to have you here! 😊 Definitely planning to do a fridge/freezer tour soon. I feel you on an older kitchen! But great that you're doing what you can to make it work. Love that you pre-made, pre-portion and freeze. We are so tight on freezer space that we have to be picky about what goes in it, though (need a new fridge/freezer at some point, our is quite old as well).
If you're going to be getting masa, Bob's Red Mill has a good quality masa harina (make sure its the masa harina and not corn flour because they have both). They also have an organic one which is a dollar more than their non-organic one. If you make a lot of tortillas or use it a lot in general, that Maseca is good, but honestly I question the quality even though everyone uses it and I don't know if its Non-GMO or has had pesticide usage or not. The Bob's Red Mill masa harina isn't as fine as the Maseca, you may have to grind it further, or you can leave as is and add a bit more water to re-hydrate better, but it depends on altitude, desired preferences, whatever. That said, I still buy Maseca if I'm making tamales as its a larger package for less price, but I do prefer the Bob's Red Mill especially as it has a way to seal it after opening.
A excellent pantry tour video Nikita and it's well organised. I buy my bulk items from a UK based online retailer that works on the business model similar to thrive market. Love 🥰this video and love 💕Nikita.
Love the tour! Definitely gives me goals! I buy my whole wheat or brown pasta in the bulk section at Winco. I don't use it often, so it's nice to buy small portions at a time.
Thank you! I've never shopped at a Winco but I love when stores have bulk food sections - so useful to be able to pick how much you want to buy and store!
I just came across your channel and very much enjoyed your pantry tour and particularly seeing your large bins and how you store your back stock. I also use clamp jars to store my dried goods and wasn't aware that Mason actually makes them too - it was nice to see (I have the bormioli rocco ones). The only thing that suprised me is that you didn't have any lentils. I have a lot of different types of lentils from brown/green, to yellow and small beluga and du puys lentils so I assume you don't eat lentils? Is it a minimalist thing?
I like the jars you use. I have similar with screw on lids. Yours look like they would be more air tight. Where can I get the ones you have? Thank You From Canada
This is very close to my pantry ingredients, but i have more variety, like green and yellow split peas, red and black lentils, tricolor quinoa and more grains. Im trying to figure out how long my food would last, because i mostly eat fresh fruit and vegs.
Thank you for that tour! What a great pantry set up you have. What I would like to know is how you can figure out how much fresh produce you need per week and how do you keep things fresh. Thanks!
It is very interesting to see that through our own journeys, you and I have ended up in much the same place. A couple things are different though. I've been shopping the local thrift shop and have gotten most of my bulk bins there. They're mostly mismatched as a consequence. The ones I've bought new are food grade buckets for which I've bought Gamma Seal lids (air tight). Also, I keep all my flours in the freezer, as well as my bulk stores of rices, seeds, and nuts. Nuts, brown rice, and the germ part of flours go rancid if not used fast and grinding into flour, opens the grain up to air which can spoil it. I live alone so using fast does not easily happen. I don't give the beans special treatment but I, too, try to do 'inventory management' and FIFO.
Love this, thank you so much for sharing! I love hearing how people organize their pantry foods and it sounds like you've got a good system going and have gotten your storage in a great way. We just moved so I'm actually in the process of organizing things all over again (but keeping some of the same systems I had before). Looking forward to sharing about it when I start making videos again!
Your are so organized. I wish I was this organized. Im all over the place. I do need more jars! Might be harder to keep bulk as im single. And ive been putting my rice vinegar , white wine vinegar in the fridge. Should I not be doing that?
Oooh!! I love hot sauce! I'm going to have to look up Marie Sharp- not sure if they sell it in our stores. Doesn't sound familiar. Thank you for sharing! xoxo
My smoke needs are filled by ground chipotle and hickory smoke powder(it's with torula yeast). Just adding as I built up my salsa plastic bottle collection, I never needed to transfer from one container to another. That doesn't make sense to me. I wait until I have enough empty bottles, that I can empty a 50lb bag all at once. It's best if you use something as a gasket for the lid to keep it air tight as possible. Never had an issue. Btw, I know those salsa bottles aren't a great thing to eat the contents of, but even glass jars have a mystery liner on the bottom of the lid, which always gets in contact with the food.
Chipotle and hickory smoke powder sounds like an interesting combo. Not sure I understand what you're saying on the salsa container bit but sounds like you might end up needing to find room to stack all those containers if you're transferring from a 50lb bag into small salsa jars? All the containers (large in the gym, smaller in the back of the pantry and the large mason jars in front are all air tight and (so far) we've never had issues with contamination or items going bad.
I would love to see in Your fridge and cupboards I don't have the room to store all the big bags you have but I definitely get enough for a month at a time.. dry goods
Not a storage question but an inquiry…I like beans and eat them regularly. But I can only eat canned with no belly gas issues. I have made beans from dry (to try and be more economical), pre-soaking, rinsing, adding a bit of vinegar…but i always get painful belly gas immediately after eating them. Any suggestions to mitigate the problem? Also, thanks for sharing your great recipes and ideas!
I'm sorry, what a pain! Beans have a sugar called raffinose that's difficult for the body to break down, which is what causes gas. You may want to try soaking the beans for longer (before I used an instant pot I used to soak beans overnight before cooking them). I also know people can have sensitivity to beans when first adding more of them to their diet, but it sounds like you've been eating beans regularly for quite a long time? The suggestion I've heard for people first incorporating more beans into their diet is to start with a smaller volume and build up, so it's possible (just a guess!) that slowly incorporating homemade beans into your diet my help you to adjust to them long-term?
New to your channel and I'm excited to check out your recipes! I'm not vegan but I do have a moderate/severe dairy allergy. We cook pretty much everything from scratch and either grow, raise or purchase in bulk most of our food. Do you have the ability to purchase from Azure Standard? I purchase my bulk pasta from them.
Popcorn you can get in 50lb bags. I bought many 50lb bags over time and I ended up reusing those large evil #7 plastic salsa bottles. The ones at groceries are eight cups worth, the ones from bulk warehouse stores are 16 cups worth. I don't buy things for food storage, I buy food items that come in a bottle I want to reuse. I got free frosting buckets from a bulk warehouse store when I was a member. What would be nice is more people coming together to make larger purchases and were able to portion it out. I bought my more commonly used spices in 1lb or 5lb amounts, and that is lasting me. Big purchases save money as long as there's no waste. Can't leave anything unprotected here without having moth larvae growing in it.
Bulk food stores help with that - we only buy large bags of things we can make sure to use up completely before they expire. Will definitely look for larger bags of popcorn if we can get them from the bulk food section at Sprouts here. And so true about bugs, weevils especially can infest whole plants and end up traveling with bag and into your pantry 😶
@@PlantsNotPlastic The message was the first, that should have cleared up the other I left. I also get salsa in the larger glass cylinder jar. Those jars can be cleaned out with a rinse, and use them over and over until the lid doesn't seal adequately. That's such a weird allergy, I would be studying that and wanting to see how he reacted to lentils that were sprouted and cooked until completely soft. Like for me, I was sure I became allergic to wheat, but I believe it was because of wheat I ate that had a high level of the ergot fungus. High amounts of organic whole wheat have never bothered me to this date upon resuming wheat.
Nice in deed to see your face - though there is something flirty about the apathetic, blurry image of you looking at your monitor while showing us a close up of a finished dish :-) I too have a habit of putting the packaging in the jar so I know what it is just like your quinoa. Thanks for sharing!
I really love the buying in bulk and storing it and having the back stock, I am totally going to make the investment. I have been looking for solutions, so thank you for the resources. I don't think quiona is any more specialty than hemp seeds. It is worth the larger size. Now wild rice is definitely specialty LOL I was on a wild rice kick for a while, but it got too pricey.
I'm so glad this video was helpful! Hemp seeds were actually a gift from my husband's mom and we haven't purchased them ourselves since 😶 Totally agree on wild rice though! Tasty but pricey!
At 5:26 you have a confusing banner at the bottom. The kind of cans you want for tomato products are steel with a copper liner. The aluminum tubes of tomato paste are lined with plastic. Aluminum is not a safe material to touch any acid type food for extended periods of time. All beverage aluminum cans are also lined with plastic. Why no lentils or peas? I love those two healthy quick cookers the most.
Should have clarified that we purchase tomato in cans (you're right, lined with copper) rather than glass and mixed material lids or plastic because of 1. the packaging and 2. most pre-made pasta sauces have oil in them. Husband is allergic to lentils 😣 and we do buy split peas every so often when we want to make the recipe, we just don't keep it on hand for regular meals!
Yes..please show more, fridge etc.
Okay I will 😄
Great job! I'm hooked. I look forward to more viewings.

I keep my pasta in jars also. Bugs love the glue in the boxes, if/ when you get them in your house.
love the big fat mason jars. Love me a big fat mason jar filled with beans
😂😂
Thank you!

I've never actually measured how much the bins hold but I think they can hold close to 40lbs of rice??
Thank you so much for watching 😊

Excellent! I enjoyed this and I learned some things. One suggestion, whole wheat flour can go rancid so I always keep mine in the freezer.
Omg good tip thank you! I’ve had that bag for awhile so I should check it 😳
I love this so much! Goals

I'm so glad it inspired you to go check out your own pantry! Baby steps, really, and a good cleanout is always a great place to start 😊
Thanks Niki....can't wait to get my pantry set up!!!!! Great that you put on the links.

Thanks for sharing. There’s not too many videos on vegan/WFPB pantries.

Thank you and welcome!

Where can I get the ones you have? Thank You From Canada
Are you talking about the flip lid ones? I don't remember where I got mine but some searching online will hopefully point you in the right direction!
You should try buying from Azure Standard
Yes would like a fridge ideas so I don’t have as much waste

Yes! I would like a fridge tour. I am interested in the bulk storage containers but the link takes me to kidney beans instead of the white container.
Thank you! I fixed the link, thank you for letting me know. I'll definitely have to do a fridge tour 🙂
Would love to see an entire kitchen tour!
I'm actually in the process of moving 😋😮 But I'd love to do a full kitchen tour once I get all set up in our new place!
Your are so organized. I wish I was this organized. Im all over the place. I do need more jars! Might be harder to keep bulk as im single. And ive been putting my rice vinegar , white wine vinegar in the fridge. Should I not be doing that?
It’s not harmful to the vinegar to refrigerate it afaik, but moving it to a cupboard shelf would leave more room in the fridge for perishables.
Oooh!! I love hot sauce! I'm going to have to look up Marie Sharp- not sure if they sell it in our stores. Doesn't sound familiar. Thank you for sharing! xoxo
You can buy it on Amazon!

I would love to do a fridge and cupboards tour! I'm moving so I'll get to do a whole new kitchen tour at some point!
