- These commercials aired on WDBB on August 15th, 1989
1. Promo for "Soul Train"
2. "Shock Theatre" Host Segments (I'm going to be as kind as possible...this is definitely the worst horror host show that I've ever seen. I get that they were going for some sort of Elvira vibe, but nope, not even close)
3. Clusters Cereal
4. Nordic Fitness Products
5. Sister London Palmist Reader & Advisor (To be perfectly honest...this commercial right here is the primary reason why I'm posting this block. Finding a local ad for wacky stuff like palm readers is like finding treasure, and the sign that they had out front is iconic)
6. Skinner's Furniture
7. Promo for "Superdome" and "Take Down"
8. "Shock Theatre" Commercial Bumper/Host Segment (Was the set that they normally used for this show being fumigated or something? I can't imagine that they always shot this horror host TV show on Grandma's living room couch)
9. Meadow Gold Ice Cream
10. The Love Line
11. Promo for "The Kid From Left Field" and "Stone Cold Dead"
12. Mentholatum Deep Heating
13. Long's Electronics
14. Pepto Bismol
15. "Shock Theatre" Host Segment
16. Mello Yello
17. Long-Lewis Ford
18. Tannehill State Park
19. Ronnie Marchant Furniture, TV & Appliances (I'm not sure if I understood a single word that was spoken here, but I feel like I just experienced Alabama in all of its splendor)
20. Dawn Dish Soap
21. Libby's Corned Beef
22. "Shock Theatre" Host Segment
23. FOX 17 WDBB News Extra
24. Cheerios
25. FOX 17 WDBB News Extra (The news item at the end about the economy were early warning signs of the impending recession of 1990-91)
26. Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn
27. Joy Dish Soap
28. Long-Lewis Ford
29. Ivory Soap (Shock Theatre is brought to you by soap)
30. Carl Cannon Chevy-Olds (Just when you thought a commercial couldn't get more Alabama...)
31. "Shock Theatre" Commercial Bumper/Host Segment
32. Comet
33. Cheer Detergent
34. Wholesale Pool Brokers
35. Hambrick Housing, Inc (C'mon lady, stop bragging about your luxurious mobile home in front of your even poorer friend)
36. Promo for "Hawaii Five-0"
That Misty Brew character has that low budget southern fried charm about it. I can imagine folks in Alabama grew up watching her and local pro wrestling (rasslin).
Pronouncing tarot like carrot...classic.
Clusters Cereal- Everything about the squirrel in this commercial is so cute, that, it puts a smile on my face every time. From how smart he is to get the cereal box himself, the huge shadow he makes, to his chattering sounds in the end.
Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn- The animation style used throughout this commercial reminds me of the rotoscoping animation technique.
Yeah, Misty Brew is a pretty half-assed horror host. It's like someone looked at a picture of Elvira, without watching one of her episodes or segments, and just put as little effort as possible. Her performance, her writing, and her personality are just not there.
I think she's a honey...
Misty's segments are written and delivered like they're a news report.
"The ghoul killed someone, details at 11."
Misty Brew was supposed to be a southern fried Elvira? She's no Creamatia Mortem (from last year's Halloween marathon). But I love seeing samples of horror hosts from around the country every year!
As well as the local ads that accompany them from ALABAMA! Sister London, oh the time has come...
I remember watching Crematia when I was a kid! Is there video of her?
Posted last year: ua-cam.com/video/pzuAI04ESsI/v-deo.html
15:29 - The way she so dramatically says "soap" as she tosses the water down the drain cracks me up.
I have never been to Alabama, but watching all these local commercials, I feel like I have...
I’ve seen bad horror hosts in my day. This woman’s hosting is so wooden that she has to go to the doctor every year to get a shot to prevent Dutch elm disease!
We are through the looking glass here, people
Saw some of these "local" commercials in Arab Alabama
Pronounced Ay-Rab
Legend has it that Misty Brew is still on that sofa talking about the movie of the week to this day
Shock Theater-"..we have Elvira at home."
Superdome-"What are you going to do, shoot me?" is not what you should ask someone with a gun
Take Down-good movie,HBO used to broadcast it a lot
The Kid From Left Field-when Arnold Jackson met Benson Dubois
Stone Cold Dead-"..i forgot to mention, the killer uses the name"Steve Austin" as an alias."
Ronnie Marchant Furniture,TV and Appliances-needed to turn on closed captioning 😂
Fox 17 WDBB News Extra-IMO that guy did the right thing taking out the drug dealer..the other guy however, what was he thinking
Carl Cannon Chevy-Olds-Carl Cannon..the perfect name for a 80s action movie character
The Shock Theater host segments look like they were filmed on a personal camcorder, and then the VHS was sent to the TV channel for broadcast. Yeah, I know these commercials are typically from 30+ year old VHS tapes; but the quality of the commercials look much better than the show itself.
Most likely the case. Her segments also have a pretty loud analog hum typical of camcorder audio at the time.
11:44 - "Bedroom suits"?...I'm sorry, I'm not going to buy a bed from someone who can't even pronounce his own product correctly.
You wear your suit in the bedroom it's just going to get wrinkled...
Just like the furniture ad from Indiana last night called their suites "Suits"! Some states can't seem to get it right.
@@DanZero77 Like the channelmaster told me, it's a... local dialect...? 8B
9:53 - Back when a jingle for a soft drink could rock...
Mello Yello was better taste than Mountain Dew, it's just Pepsi used the Extreme Ad Campaigns that tapped into the youth of America especially in the 90s with Extreme Sports etc & with that working, Coke Decided to end Mello Yello & try to fight Pepsi Blow for Blow in the Mid/Late 90s with Surge but it didn't work. Pepsi won. Mello Yello came back but it's too late now. Mountain Dew is miles ahead.
I guess Misty's supposed to be the Deep South cousin of Elvira.
A dime store Elvira everyone!
"Mom can we bring home Elvira?
"Oh Honey, we already have Elvira at home!"
I'm mad there was ZERO effort to make the set for the host segments look even remotely Gothic 🤣🤣🤣. A black background, an old couch or a chair and a couple of candelabras and you're good. No, we get a bad blue screen set that looks like grandma's house 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Family Dollar Elvira is a trip.
I kinda love her. :D
Who is this "Elvira" that people keep bringing up? 😉
I dunno, I kinda think Alabama Elvira is cute. She sounds bored as hell but hey, she's hosting bottom of the barrel stuff in Alabama.
Catching up on the Halloween uploads. Damn there is a lot of local ads on this one! Also, this might be the sleepiest horror host of all time. Are we sure this isn't a post-ironic Adult Swim sketch show masquerading as genuine late 80's TV?
Misty Brew the southern equivalent of Elvira😅😂😂
According to IMDB, The Ghoul is available to stream on Tubi.
Brother, she’s starting to grow on me.
I miss those days with a passion 1989 my friends and JVC made a descent VCR
She's an Elvira knock off but her commentary is great!
No no nothing like Elvira don't sue
That's okay because 'Elvira' is nothing like 'Vampira' ! 😂
@@bellvnv2000 Elvira was certainly inspired by Vampira, but her character is completely different. She's basically Vampira mixed with an LA Valley Girl stereotype. I can't even say that Misty Brew here even *has* a character.
Elvira? More like Elmyra and that's being nice! 😅😅😅
Elvira but make her sound like she's a mom who is not mad, just disappointed
#17: I’m not crazy right? That ad used the Olympic theme music… Did I miss a reference to being a low level sponsor, or was it just copyright infringement? I’m thinking the latter…
Someone get John Williams on the phone!
No, that was definitely the Olympics theme music. You're not crazy. Not unless there's a very, very, very similar piece of music out there and no one has ever heard it until now. LOL
15:02 FLIP
Misty Brew... 🔥 🥰
