Poor My Buddy. It started out as such a popular toy for its first couple years, then the original Child's Play film came out in 88. Due to the similarities between the doll and that film's monster, sales plummeted and never recovered.
Fun fact: Heathcliff was the last major cartoon character to be voiced by legendary voice actor, Mel Blanc before his death in 1989. He originated the character in 1980 in a Saturday Morning program, then returned to play it in the syndicated weekday series that's featured in the bumpers here. Though he would return to his classic characters like Bugs Bunny and Barney Rubble throughout the 80s, Heathcliff was the last original main character he would play before passing at the age of 81.
13:15 - This reminds me of a story I once heard...Larry Kenney, the voice behind Lion-O, was once in a toy store, and saw two boys deciding which Thundercat toy they should get. Larry spoke to them in his Lion-O voice, suggesting they should choose Lion-O. The boys just looked at him, and told him he sounded nothing like the character.
Golden Grahams- There’s something about that honey drop mascot character that’s so charming to watch. Too bad he never caught on. 6. WSMN Commercial Bumper- Judging by how disorganized this design looks, I would say someone had too much fun in MS Paint, making this bumper.
I walked in the room just as it said "don't drink alcohol!" so I skipped backwards to play back what Thundercats was talking about. Recently, I thought about, what would it be like to drink alcohol during the day while I'm just watching UA-cam here alone in the garage. I imagined the worst stuff, I wouldn't actually do that NOW.
My first Castle set was Black Monarch's Castle from 1988 (I think I got it in 1989/90). I put it together again a few years ago using all of my old pieces.
@@80sCommercialVault I believe I have most of my pieces too, but I’m missing the baseplate for the set and others as well. If only I knew where I put them
Those molded baseplates are a real pain and can cost quite a bit to get used today. I kept all of mine but last I checked a lot of them were cracked and damaged while being stored in boxes. :/
WMSN must have been a godsend for those in Madison, WI who needed their cartoon fix but you'd have to put up with those cheesy bumpers with the bad music and the creepy PSAs! Those puppets!!!

Always wanted a Kid Sister and never got one 😭
Bah. Whose friend to the end was My Buddy to?

I had a big bowl of Frosted Flakes while i watched this 🥰
Thanks for another addition to the commercial vault! :D These are great fun to watch and reminisce with! :D

Golden Grahams - Maybe it's the Proto-CGI look! I'm amazed it was that advanced for the mid-80s! :D

Ah, the Pumpkin Light...what a scam. Anyway, some gems here!
I miss our Hungry Hungry Hippos toy (second hand from my cousin). It was fun and nerve-wracking haha
I had LEGO 6090 Royal Knights' Castle as a kid. To me, the Castle theme (along with Space and Pirates) were the best LEGO themes of the 80s and 90s.

7:37 - If Thundercats magazine didn't feature a pin-up poster of Cheetara in a risque pose, I would be very disappointed.

Thundercats... ROLL OUT!!! 😂

1:42 - The way this boy is glancing at the "nurse" is kind of creepy...
