Tim created this arrangement while he was in high school for an a cappella group he was in. Every time I hear it, I'm amazed at what a talented person he must have been even as a teenager.
Loved your breakdown. Although not a Christmas song, Home Free’s cover of How Great Thou Art is another example of no beat, all harmony. It’s stunning.
@@ShyAnn291 When my dad was passing, he was unconscious for a couple days leading to his death. He was a man of faith, and this song meant a lot to him. I played HF’s video at his bedside several times. ❤️ I believe it brought him peace.
Home Free made that ancient classic new again. Beautiful chord variations and progressions and heavenly harmonies. Thank you for your insightful comments!
My favourite rendition of this hymn. As always, their singing & harmonies are perfect! If you haven't heard their version of "Mary Did You Know" it's fantastic. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
@kmwwrench Same. It's my favorite song they do, period, Christmas and otherwise! I have a top ten of "favorite" HF songs that fluctuates depending on my mood, but DYHWIH is always number 1 no matter what mood I'm in. The arrangement is just so interesting that it never gets old, and I especially love following the bassline. What a vibe.
Yes@@tmae33 ! My recent reaction was to their Angels We Have Heard On High - that's the most complex acapella arrangement I've reacted to so far. So impressive!
This is so gorgeous. I think the bass you hear when Tim is singing the lead is a doubletracking. Both he and Chris have said in interviews that while Chris would do the underlying bass when they sang live, for studio recordings they would doubletrack Tim. I am enjoying the way you explain what's happening to make the music sound like it does. Very interesting. Thanks!
Yes, Chris Rupp has a You Tube channel where he has reviewed some of the songs he performed with Home Free. I heard him say there that in recordings, they would have Tim sing the bass in another "layer" because he sounds so much more "bass-y". But, live...Chris would sing it. You saw him sing bass on the Sing Off "Ring of Fire" while Tim was singing the melody...but when Austin took over the lead, Tim switched with Chris and went back to singing the bass line and it was so much stronger than when Chris was doing it. I believe you even commented on Tim's strong bass when he covered that under Austin's lead there. Anyway...all that to say, I agree and I also heard Chris Rupp say that.😊
Home Free has the best version of this song so far for me. Their voices give me chills and they always seem to make you feel what they are singing about. I love your wonderful analysis its nice and unique. Thank you this was great.
Would love to see you react to their Do you Hear What I Hear, arranged by Adam Rupp. The intricacies of the arrangement are absolutely stunning. Great reaction!
These boys killed this song. Love these boys and they are so talented and keep getting better and better. CK out Beautiful Star of Bethlehem featuring The Oakridge Boys and Jeffrey East 💗💗💗💗🤗
New sub here...love the analysis. You have to hear them on Adam Rupp's arrangement of Do You Hear What I hear. I think it's one of their top 5 songs ever.
Tim has more than a BASS voice of enormous quality ... he sings through THREE REGISTERS flawlessly ! After his voice in Baritone ... comes Austin ( High Tenor) with blow you away quality voice ... powers through and explodes at the finally ! jj
This is so very beautiful! This is pure, raw talent. Their harmonies are so awesome. Adam Rupp sings in this one. He also sings in How Great Thou Art. He has a beautiful tenor voice. Love your reaction!!
I'm enjoying your analysis and reaction! This is my 2nd favorite Christmas carol by HF; the 1st being Do You Hear What I Hear. Oh, those harmonies! And that cascading "Fall..." Beautiful!
O Holy Night is easily my favorite Christmas song, & this version is just stunning. No matter how many times I hear it, that ending always gives me goosebumps. And I always forget just how young Austin was when he joined HF. What a talent! I'm heartbroken that he left the group, though I understand & respect his decision. As for Adam, yes, he has a nice voice, & will use it when he needs to. But he's uncomfortable singing (especially solo parts) & doesn't particularly enjoy it. Beatboxing is his thing. Fun fact: Adam also plays the trumpet!
Thank you for your awesome analysis of this most beautiful Christmas hymn ‼️ This was the very first time I heard Home Free &, I’ve not changed my mind of what a wonderfully amazingly talented group they are💗‼️💗 They Never disappoint … EVER …No matter what they sing …. It’s Always a Joy ‼️ MERRY CHRISTMAS 🌲🎄🌲❄️🌲🌲🎄
Gorgeous arrangement, stunning voices. Full body goosebumps! I just love seeing your amazement and appreciation for the sounds you're hearing for the first time. Wonderful. Thank you!
Tim arranged this one as a teenager I’ve been told. They sing Angels We Have Heard on High in the same church and Chris arranged that one and Adam arranged Do You Hear What I Hear and the boys have said his arrangements are difficult. I love this one. Love the bell tones and Tim and Austin’s solos are wonderful. Great analysis and I subscribed! 😍😄🤩
If you'd like to hear their voices without multi tracks or editing, watch their performances on the television contest "Sing Off", which is from 2013 and was only a few months after Austin joined them. I think there were six songs total, they're all available on UA-cam.
My first Home Free reaction was to their performance of Ring of Fire from the Sing Off - feel free to check it out. It's where I figure out who's singing which part 👍 I plan on doing the rest in the near future
Since you like how Rob and Austin sound together, you should react to them doing Opera. It's called Two COUNTRY Singers try singing OPERA - "Nessun Dorma" It's on Austin's channel. While I'm at it you should listen to Tim and Peter Hollens due Greensleeves. It's on Peter's channel
I said you would enjoy it. What is it with Austin he will smile and wrinkle his nose like he's flirting, I'm a guy and I still think it's the cutest thing.
I’m not a guy and still love his nose wrinkle lol he’s so nice in person! lol he liked my rainbow knockoff crock sandals which I wore to their concert when I got to meet the group…..I couldn’t find my left nice black flat lol he was so genuine ❤
One of the vocal coach reactors mentioned that it was some technique used to keep the throat open if I remember correctly. Home Fries, correct me if I am wrong.
This song was my first introduction to Home Free--and they've been my favorite musicians ever since! Love it when these guys voice the bell tones🔔 Besides the unbelievable harmonies--and gorgeous church backdrop--getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is a real treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest #AdamRuppSinging
The arrangement was done by teenaged Tim. At that time when Tim sang lead Chris covered the bass, but only live, in the studio Tim just did both layers. When Chris left and they got Chance as their baritone, Chance and Tim actually switch on occasion, Chance is also naturally a bass, just not as extreme as Tim. It gives them a lot more flexibilty compared to with Chris as a natural bari-tenor covering for bass
Listening to the video from Greeneville the other night, it almost sounded like Tim may have 'revisited' the arrangement again to take advantage of Chance's abilities.
I just re-watched it, and it appears that in most of it, Chance is carrying the bass and Tim is adding an extra harmony voice - essentially he is 'being Chris' and Chance is 'being Tim'. The quality of the video is such that it is hard to tell if it is Tim or Adam that is hitting the B under Austin's E, but it is definitely one of them.
I love watching your expressions when you are listening to the music. I also appreciate your analysis and teaching us about the chords that impress you. I don’t know much about music but do appreciate it and love it when others show their appreciation too! Thank you for your reaction!
Your reaction to the final part of this arrangement was EVERYONE! The sparkle in your eyes from the pure festival of voices was amazing. Loved this reaction!
You are going to entirely spoil me for a lot of other reactions! Thank you very much! 😀 After the Christmas season is over (which doesn't seem like that even should already be that close...sigh), I'm thinking you might want to add another song to your already-growing list, Tim Foust and Peter Hollens, singing Misty Mountains...oh...my...word. Another great Tim duet is with Chris, from AFTER Christ went out on his own. They sing Alabama's song "Angels Among Us." Home Free had done it as a group before, but the mix of JUST Chris and Tim is absolutely stunning. Their voices blend particularly well. As I was watching that video for the first time (a long time back, now), it dawned on me that part of their wonderful blend may well be because they have similar muscular features in their upper bodies, up to the shapes of their faces and the way they use their mouths. After I started seeing it, I got really fascinated by it. Then there's a place in the song where they begin walking along and singing together, and the similarities are quite enhanced. It's pretty cool. They also have done another song together: "Long Black Train," which is one of my ALL-TIME favorites (originally written and sung by Josh Turner (can you tell I like bass voices?). I still like Josh's own version the best, but Chris and Tim did a REALLY great job with it, as well.
Very interesting! Facial structure certainly plays a part in all-things vocal 🎤I remember hearing that Freddy Mercury could do what he could because of his peculiar mouth shape
So fun to watch your honest reactions. Watched this three times just to watch your face. Tim can actually cover 5 octaves. He did a solo project "Pieces of Me Vol. 1 : Doo-Wop". It will blow you away. His rendition of the Beach Boy's "In My Room" races straight to my heart. Thanks for your reactions.
@SirHairless I remember seeing the you tube video for In My Room. Shouldn't be hard to search for. I forgot to mention that Tim sings all the parts. Not sure if anybody mentioned that Tim is from Texas, so he has a bit of a drawl. Hope you can find it. You'll love his rendition.
Hearing this again as I was channel surfing - I have to say I do enjoy and benefit from your analysis in breaking down notes, chords and harmonic layering etc - Great job. Thanks and God bless, jj
Don't know if anyone has suggested it, but Rob and Austin sing opera. I believe it is Country boys sing opera. I may be wrong, but it's relatively new, possibly 7-8 months ago maybe. Impressive for "Country Boys".
Avi Kaplan did a very nice version of this classic carol during a concert-last year I believe. One of the audience members recorded it, so we’re lucky enough to be able to see and hear it. You may not wish to react to it, but you may enjoy listening to it for your own pleasure.
Home Free does a great rendition of DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR? It's filmed in Minnesota in what they call an ice castle. They are definitely outside as you can see their breath. There are tunnels, if you will, that I would imagine are used for acoustics. Tim Foust's bass is ridiculous, yet again. Not surprised. Austin is impressive as well. They all are. I'm a huge PTX fan, but Home Free is a really close second. It's kind of hard to compare because of different styles and such. David Phelps does this song as well and was my favorite for so many years from his Album Joy Joy, but something about Home Free and this song just grabbed me. I know I enjoyed it just as much if not more. I don't know if it's the voices or the video or a combination of both, but I enjoyed it so much.. At the end of the video they speak and give Adam the credit for the arrangement. O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song and Do You Hear What I Hear is my second favorite. Home Free did an excellent job with it for certain.
Hey, thanks for the comment! I reacted to David Phelps' version if you want to check it out. As for Home Free's version of Do You Hear What I Hear - I plan on reacting to that within the next couple of weeks before Christmas 🎄 O Holy Night is also my favourite Christmas song
I would give a suggestion that will drop your jaw and left you up high. Analyze David Phelps “Oh Holy Night” with Gaither Vocal Band. ❗️❗️The version with the green sweater
Chris covers low notes when Tim is singing unless it's a super deep note. Chance in the newer songs does all bass when Tim sings because Chance is also a baritone/bass. Chance took Chris is place when Chris left the group. So no over laying tracks when Chance and Tim are together. Adam is the highest in this arrangement. Adam hates singing because his voice is so high. He has a beautiful voice.
I dont remember exactly where I heard this but it was a choir coach who made a throwaway comment on never using "S"after the word Angel"S" is discouraged because it sounds like there ard too many esses and now I listen out for it.I wasn't surprised to here Austin singing it correctly. He just sings "Oh hear the Angel voices instead of Angels voices !!.Sounds so much nicer dont you think.I hope I made sense. ❤
Yes, you're right. I don't believe it was ever actually meant to be "Angels' voices" - I've only ever known it as "angel voices" 🎶 If you look up the lyrics, you'll probably struggle to find versions that contain the 's' at the end of "angel". Thanks for the comment!
Wow! I love this song, and I love your style of doing reactions. Dan Vasc just released his version of this song and I highly recommend it, but if you haven’t seen his “Amazing Grace” yet, you might want to do that one first and save Dan’s “Oh Holy Night” for next year’s Christmas.
Thank you! Yes with my final Christmas reaction coming hopefully later today (a Home Free one), Christmas songs will need to wait until next year - unless reacting to them off-season is acceptable 😅
I’ve seen other reaction channels react to Christmas songs throughout the year and the vibe in the comment sections has always been that people are pretty “chill”😉 with it. PTX fans are especially understanding about this because otherwise they just wouldn’t hear reactions to many of the Christmas songs that Pentatonix does. There’s just no way possible to cram it all into that tiny window just before Christmas. If you feel like you need a reason or excuse, you could plan a “Christmas in July” feature. That’s a real thing. I’ve seen it in advertising etc. Just an idea.
@@SirHairless Christmas in July theme? No, I don’t think it would offend people. And if it does? Hmmm…if that offends them then they’re too easily offended. It’s your channel, you can do what you want! 😎 Merry Christmas🎄 Enjoy this special day.😊🎁⭐️✨♥️
New sub here, really love your reactions! I'm a huge Home Fry, too 😊 I have a suggestion for a reaction from another artist called Marcin. He is a young virtuoso percussive guitarist from Poland. Classically trained, incredibly talented! I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts and input on his music. Moonlight Sonata or Bach's Toccata would be a great place to start. You will not regret checking him out. ❤
I think you'd really appreciate Voctave. They're a larger acapella group with complex arrangements that still has a classic acapella style. They do not have a vocal percussionist. One of their tenors does all (or at least most) of their arrangements.
@@SirHairless Exciting!! They're a bigger, more choral-style group. I think you could provide great insights on some of the complexities in their arrangements. They're my favorite acapella group for holiday music, so be sure to save some spots for them next christmas ("O Come All Ye Faithful," Mary Did You Know" featuring songwriter Mark Lowry, and "This is My Wish/Peace on Earth" are my favorites)
Tim says they "found" Austin when they were doing a special request show on board a cruise ship. Austin was part of a theater troupe doing 2 shows a day 6 days a week doing Les Miseralbe. They could hear him up on the main deck. They offered him one show a week and he quit the theater show on the spot and joined Home Free. You should hear him belt out "Let Him Go" from that show. It's on-line somewhere. You'll be glad if you look it up.

Reacción a "Ave María "de Igor Krutoy... canción de Dimash Qudaibergen acompañado por el cellista Hauser....es una delicia en Navidad
Check out their version of How Great thou Art!
Loved your reaction to one of my favorite HF Christmas songs. Hit subscribe to watch more Home Free with you.
Thank you! Have done two other HF reactions so far - the journey is just beginning
I'm sure you realize by now, they do use Vibrato when it's called for. Thanks. Good digging into how it all comes together. .
I love yiur reactions. Very informative
Appreciate it!
Awesome break down
You should do their How Great Thou Art. You can hear Adam singing very clearly.
I would give a suggestion that will drop your jaw and left you up high.
Analyze David Phelps “Oh Holy Night” with Gaither Vocal Band.
❗️❗️The version with the green sweater

❤❤❤
David Phelps did an Amazing job as well❤
He did indeed!
Great reaction!
Thanks!
Subscribing for your Home Free analysis.
Thank you! Welcome
If you’re interested in other groups beyond the wormholes of PTX and home free, check out voice play, voctave and citizen queen ❤
VoicePlay will be my next acapella adventure! They won the members' poll so I will be reacting to them soon!
Tim has said in an interview that sometimes he'll harmonize with Austin on the high stuff in his falsetto
Wait until you hear their version of "Do you hear what I hear!"
I'll be hearing it quite soon methinks!
Yeah that was a thought of mine - something Christmas/summer related!@@karenm5681 I'd hope it wouldn't offend people...
@@SirHairless Christmas in July theme? No, I don’t think it would offend people. And if it does? Hmmm…if that offends them then they’re too easily offended. It’s your channel, you can do what you want! 😎 Merry Christmas🎄 Enjoy this special day.😊🎁⭐️✨♥️
Chris did cover bass when Tim Took the lead.
Thanks!! Marcin - is he the one who was on one of the talent shows - America's Got Talent, was it?
@@SirHairless Yes, that's the one!
TRY AUSTIN & ROB doing NESSUN DORMA .... will impress ! GBjj
I think you'd really appreciate Voctave. They're a larger acapella group with complex arrangements that still has a classic acapella style. They do not have a vocal percussionist. One of their tenors does all (or at least most) of their arrangements.
Voctave are on my radar due to many requests - I'll start my journey with them in 2024
@@SirHairless Exciting!!
Try O holy Night by Gabriel Henrique
This arrangement is by Tim Foust.
Thanks
Austin has the added bonus, besides being cute as a bug, he has strength and carriage that they likely heard that in China.
His voice has remarkable power, especially at the higher register!
