I really enjoyed seeing them talk about a competitor using the Perkins and seeing that beautiful frame on the White holding the Perkins.

Agree, at least they talked about the elephant in the room!! My neighbor and me took on a project tractor back in the late 70s and it was an oliver with big plans to do custom baling for locals. I think it was an 88 that was an older model because the sides of the engine were covered. I do remember pulling it out of the tree row it was in and thankfully the engine was not stuck. With some work, we got it running and one of my uncles gave us an old IH square baler on the condition that we do not return it when we get tired of custom baling for people, ha ha ha! We found some used parts for the baler and got it running as well, and the Oliver with that 6 cylinder had no problem running that baler! Seems like we never took any photos then, so it's only in my memory. Can't remember making too much money, but we had a heck of a good time and did get a few jobs within tractor driving distance. In Iowa, we had a 5 cent deposit on beer/pop cans starting in the summer of 79, so we walked the main highway picking up hundreds of beer cans and cashed them in to buy a tank of regular fuel! Good times, it's funny what pulls out memories in a fella's brain, too bad we have no photos, but we had no time for that, ha ha !

Other than the US market this range was the 2000 range, I used to drive a 2620 on a neighbours farm, I felt like a king. Great machine, 6 cylinder Perkins. this was the pinnacle of MF, later in the 80's they struggled with R & D and mismanagement. With out the intervention form AGCO, MF would be in the history books. Under ACGO, MF are manufacturing exceptional tractors.

The Perkins engine has much respect in the US, it's a great engine! The early to mid 80's was a rough time in the US for Ag, many mfg companies for Ag bit the dust, even mighty John Deere had problems. The first example that popped in my head was IH and Case, if Tenneco hadn't bought Case, then IH, I'm not sure you'd have CNH today as it is. In Iowa, it's Deere country, but we do support an AGCO dealer that specializes in MF. That dealer is housed in one of the original IH dealers in our area - I think it switched just after IH was bought by Tenneco. Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!

So the 8s range tractors are needing new gearboxes less than 1000 hrs from new , I would say they are exceotional indeed

I had an older friend several years ago that run MF tractors for years and years. My dad and I run those old John Deeres because that is all we could afford.
As the years passed, I took over the farming operation, all the while buying those old green tractors. All this time my good friend was still buying those old Massey Ferguesons, having more problems than he thought he should be having. In 1984 I bought a new John Deere 4450 powershift to go along with my two 4440s, my 4430, 4320, and two 3020s.
One spring at planting time my friends Massey had to be put in the shop. He came to me and wanted to hire me to plant his crop. I told him I did not have time to plant his crop, but assured him he was welcome to take my 4450 and 7200 planter and put his crop in at no cost to him, as I was finished for the season and would be more than happy for him to use anything I had to get his crop in the ground. I FINALLY convinced him that he was welcome to take the rig, so he did!
He didn't say much about the tractor when he brought it home other than he thanked me over and over for the use of it. HOWEVER...
...When he got his crop harvested that fall, he trades his Massey Fergueson for a used 4440 John Deere!!!
One afternoon later in the fall we were plowing right across the fence from each other. He stopped his tractor and waved me down to chat about green tractors, I assumed. I asked him how he liked his "new" tractor. He laughed a big old belly laugh and said," I MAY HAVE THE DAMNED MUMPS AGAIN...BUT I WILL NOT EVER HAVE ANOTHER MASSEYFERGUESON TRACTOR!...And he didn't.

      @opasvintagegarage  Рік тому

Great story, thanks for sharing! Well, the green ones you mentioned were (and still are) some great machines! We used many of those models on our farm, and I'd say the 4450 was one of the best we ever used! The 7000 & 8000 series were light years ahead, and they are still in the field today, but I'll never forget the day the dealer started our new 4440 - wow, what a beast that meant business! The 7410 was great, but it didn't give you the same tingle down to your toes like the 4440 at startup! Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it!

Your an exaggerated big lier I grew up around masseys during the 60s 70s 80s and 90s and all I saw was deere John's constant breaking down HA HA HA HA , and now all I see is deere john combines burning up yea literally burning the f_ _ k up in huge flames I've never ever seen or heard of massey ferguson combines literally burning up so you know what you can do with your lieing about masseys and your extremely operating deere John's NOTHING FALLS APART LIKE A DEERE.

We mostly ran Massey Ferguson’s going back to the 1960’s. The only trouble we had was with a few of the 200 series was the power steering after a lot of hrs. My son has had 5 John Deere’s. And one was a lemon I think it was a 6120 it had electrical problems and breaks and hydraulic problems. The other 4 were good. I have a 5320 JD cab tractor I had a lot of problems with a electric short, it caused the alternator to run hot and burn up. Finally a guy that works a Etown electric motors did something to the inside of the alternator to keep it from running hot and burning up. I had spent $1700 at the local JD dealership and they couldn’t fix it. The other big trouble has been keeping the air conditioning running. I had to put a front and a rear wheel bearing in it. And injectors and a injection pump. And had to have the joystick rebuilt for the front loader, also had to put a water pump on it. I got 10,300 hrs on the 5320 JD I plan on keeping it, because I figure I know what problems it has , buying another used tractor you never know what you are getting . Bought a MF that ran good for a couple of months then blew a head gasket. Come to find out some had blew the engine up using ether, it had burn holes into the top of the block, I had to get another block and rebuild the engine. Other then that it’s a good tractor. You can get good a bad in all the different brands.

I know a former MF dealer who switched to JD franchise in the 80s. Like day and night. Said these J Deere’s are actually designed to be worked on and repaired with good service and repair Manuel’s and factory back up. Actually worth fixing as have good resale value. Deere was so far ahead. No contest.

Cześć. Piszę z Polski. Mam MF 2640.

Hi. I'm writing from Poland. I have an MF 2640. I see that everyone taking part in the discussion has a lot of practice, so probably some of you know whether all old models of the 2000 series (in the USA, the equivalent is the 3000 series?) have the same drive transmission? To clarify the question: did the 2625 and 2725 models have a gearbox, final drive (differential) and final drive, with the same durability?
Is the difference between the 2000 series models only a matter of different engine power and tire size, or also of different drivetrain components adapted to the engine power?
      It's best to ask practitioners.

They may have been advertising the 3500 series, but it certainly wasn't the best tractor in that lineup. Near the bottom in my opinion, maybe one up over the 3688 IH but it would be a close race. The best thing you could say about a 3545 was it was a better tractor than a 2705 out of the gate and had a good engine and that was it. It is still an awkward tractor, the electronic hitch was plagued, the cabs couldn't keep an A/C, door wore fast and hung crooked after awhile, they would rust out the cab floorpans and the plastic moldings weren't great quality, and they still have poorer hydraulics than a 1105-1135. Was a few around and there were some great deals to be had on them in the 80's, but the Fords and the Deere's were better tractors and they held up better.

Those John Deere boys aren't going to like that! ha ha ha. Not sure about that, but I will say that John Deere gambled in the mid 1980s and kept all the dealerships open in the small town when all the other brands were closing and consolidating. Love JD or hate them, in Wisconsin or Iowa, you can trip over all the dealerships, and the big one stock parts. AGCO parts? You need to pre-order and either pay to have them shipped or drive an hour to pick-up you parts. I worked on a fellas JD 4240 and the JD boys had the parts in stock, can you say that about AGCO? I love them all, maybe not IH so much (the TAs are nothing but trouble, sorry but they are - I'm sure a fella out in youtube land has the original to the tractor still working), but I will use or work on anything! If a guy wants to irritate a fella, tell him that it will take a week for parts!
