- I have no idea why I decided to upload this video but hey, I had more fun on the old Xbox Live Demo then the full game of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.
So here it is! the Sonic 06 Demo that was taken down from the Xbox Live Marketplace. IN FULL 1080p!

Entirely untrue. The e3 beta builds were really well made and were alot of fun. There was nothing incompetent about the developers, they just didn't have enough time to polish it and make it great. If they had had more then a years development time then this would have been one of the best Sonic games ever made.
Hundred percent agree. Great concept, new characters, great story. And the soundtrack! They should consider making a remaster in a few years for Switch.

I actually played the demo a ton of times when I was little and had the 360. I got the disc a little while after.

My GOD. Sonic actually doesn't looks ugly and liveless ! and you can control him in this game ! The surroundings and the music is fine too ! What the hell happened ?!
Actually, besides the homing attack gravity and greater speed, his overall jump control is still awful and he's just as twitchy here compared to the final game.
Sega rushes the small team to meet the November release date.

I can't believe this may very well be a later build of Sonic '06 than the one we got in stores.
here's why
you see the demo version was worked on by a seperate team on Xbox since Sega wanted to make it look more like a Xbox 360 game
but Sega was based on Japan so their focus was on making the ps3 version (ps. typically in games, you would need to pick a main console to develop for first then port the game onto other consoles later)
so any changes made from the Xbox 360 demo wasn't included into the final version
and the ps3 is quite popular for being harder to develop for

+rei migule Well you see, the demo is based off of what was supposed to be the final build of Sonic 06. However when the time actually came for the game to be released, the final build wasn't stable enough so SEGA released an earlier build which was apparently the most stable. It was either that, or miss the deadline that Microsoft had given them. So technically the final product is a prototype of Sonic 06.
I feel like the 7th generation was the gen we all loved to hate. The washed out colors, the dlc, the dorito and mtn dew marketing, the regenerating health. It's so funny seeing people looking back at it fondly
Given how things are currently going, it does seem like those years were greater than we thought, those that disliked the direction on the gaming industry in those years would probably colapse if they saw the state it is now.
Of course, doesn't mean everything was better, but it does seem here were more good than in those years
Fascinating that there are some things more finished in this demo, like the action gague working and the homing attack arcing downwards

I found a really cool secret in the full game. If you homing attack enemies using the white gem, sonic still does the flips and trips that were taken out of the game origionally. try it if you dont belive me ! ??

Spassti Actually it's neither. The code got messed up for the animations on regular Sonic but the code for the White Gem remained intact.
LBPPlayer7 really? Ha, weird. I thought this was attentional. But if this is a glitch, what even is the purpose of the white gem? I just figured for staying in midair and having different homing attack animations. So you're basicly telling me that sonics regular homing attack animation got messed up, but it behaviors normal with the white gem?

Not counting the video that shows after the gameplay obviously. That looks amazing.
There's some small graphical and gameplay differences in the demo, e.g the HUD, Sonic's gauge starts off empty instead of full, light dashing gives you more points, loading screens, proper "rotation physics" instead of the snappy physics in retail, etc.
What if SEGA remade this game for Sonic's 25th Anniversary?
Like, they recently said they want to win back the trust of their fans, so what better way to do it than to correct a past mistake? Sonic 06 had potential to be one of the best Sonic games ever made. From what I heard about when the game was still being worked on, everybody was excited and even Non-Sonic fans were getting excited. In fact, the game we all got wasn't the final thing! Apparently the original final build of the game was unstable and crashed a lot so they had to put out a build of the game which was the most stable. However the chosen build was filled with glitches, missing effects, well, you get the idea. It must have been tragic for them because they knew that this was going to be their biggest failure. But they had no choice. They couldn't disappoint their fans but even then they knew it wouldn't do any good. The fate of the real final build is unknown. What if they worked on it a but more and fixed the problems it had and THEN put it out. So really, Sonic 06 isn't out yet. Just a build of it that failed to please everyone. Wouldn't the final version of Sonicc 06 be awesome as a way of saying sorry and celebrating 25 years of Sonic? And by this point SEGA have learnt from their mistakes so they know what the fans do and don't want. It would be almost perfect!
+James Lewis While I'd like to see this game fully finished(story can stay the same, I don't really mind it that much), I think part of the reason why people disliked it that much is because quite a lot of new people got to the sonic franchise at that time. Sure 06 is glitchy, but a lot of the bugs in it are in SA1/2, and people love those games. I'm not saying it's flawless, there is still quite a lot and those loading screens but it isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
As for Sega, I'd love to see a pc release of that game(even if it was just rereleased, there is always a modding community that could fix most of it) but I don't think that they have learnt and will ever do that.

Nobody will forget the plotholes, nobody will allow that kiss scene to fly, nobody will appreciate everything else being handled with care except for the sloppily executed boring story. If Sonic Team were to not fix everything, a remake would be pointless and nobody would buy it.

@@ScarlettTheRav Not really. They didn't lose the code and they could have released it, but it would crash. CONSTANTLY. So they used an earlier build which, despite being buggy af, is actually very stable.
Everyone in this thread is kinda right but wrong, Sega prioritized the Sony version which didn't have these Xbox new features and updates, they just ported the PS3 version to Xbox and scrapped this more updated Xbox demo

I honestly see no difference between this and the full game, other than Sonic's mouth, and the blue bar on the bottom having more use than it did in the full game.
Why I say this is because so many people say that this looks much better.

Sonic's Homing Attack has gravity and travels at an incline which helps keep your speed and momentum up when using it (you'll automatically be running right after using it if not using it on an enemy), every trail of rings in this demo is able to be light dashed with unlike in the retail version where only a select few can be light dashed with, Sonic's gem meter isn't glitched out anymore and the Light Cores and Chaos Drives slowly refill it, Sonic's meter also has a level up gauge where like Shadow's the more you press the right trigger then the more powerful your Gem will be (but it will consume energy quicker), and the camera angles are more dynamic and cooler here than in the retail version of this level.
So while still not great and not what the creators were wanting it to be (E3 2006 build is like 100 times better than this and the retail builds) it is definitely more playable and better than the retail version.
Can't wait to download this demo, of course.

NASCARFAN160 Sonic's mouth is in the final release as well.You can see it by getting stuck in that Crisis City building where there's a chain of rings that is normally an automated sequence. Since the camera is just at one place, I can just run up close to the camera.
Why doesn't Sega just finish the later build and release it? I know the Xbox 360 and PS3 aren't relevant anymore, but I'd really like to see what the finished product of this game would be. The day and night cycles, every character having a story, Metal Sonic, better gameplay, little to no noticeable glitches. I just want this game to release again but finished! It makes me sad everytime I go to play 06 and think what it could've been instead of this glitchy mess :(

Well i mean alot of people said that sega had problems booting up sonic 06 on xbox 360 and ps3 and the game kept crashing and they just had to use. An. Earlier. Build. Than final:( and i get they had to rush for the Christmas season or something

This had the potential to be an amazing game.
Hopefully, if they reboot the sonic franchise again, they'll go back to this style I.e (sonic adventure) and modernise it.
I wouldn't mind if they just kept the games like Generations as that (in my opinion) is the best sonic game ever.

Omg. I had the vaguest memories of playing a sonic came with my brother when we were younger back on the xbox 360. And watching this video just confirmed that. I can't believe me and my brother were playing the demo for sonic 06. No wonder we were having so much trouble beating it...
The trailers for this game make me want to play it, even though I know its bad.
The homing attack can be used to build up momentum. That is all I ask in a modern sonic game.
I remember when I was a Sonic fan how I used to defend this game vehemently. Now I can see how awful it truly is. Live and learn.

Everyone wondering why this is better then the final game, sega had a deadline for this to come out, they then made the deadline even shorter and the devs were forced to release an unfinished version of the game, but this demo was a finished version of those levels cause it was meant to come out a while before the full game, and they were going to use the rest of the time to make the whole game look and play as smooth as this.
The demo was much better then the final product, have you played the actual game? The amount of glitches is astounding it seemed worse then an alpha version of a game
No I don't "hunt" for glitches, they just happen so much. For example watch literally any episode of game grumps play sonic 06 and you'll see plenty of glitches, I experienced just as many as they did. Also I was comparing the final version to alpha versions of other games, that i have had the privilege to play (destiny and battlefield 4 being 2 examples) which were much more complete and less glitchy compared to the final version of sonic 06. Also, when I say the demo was better, i'm referring to how much more complete, as far as not having glitches and having better graphics. I did enjoy sonic 06 but there is no denying how incomplete it is.
Also I did not claim to play any alpha version of sonic 06, I said it was more completed then A alpha version of A game, not sonic 06 specifically, so don't try throwing out random accusations, all I was doing is trying to inform everyone in the comment section that were posting comments about how much better this demo looked in there eyes compared to the final version why the final version was not like this. If you enjoyed sonic 06 good for you, im not saying your not allowed to.
I am not talking about what they say while playing, but all the glitches that occur, I am only using them as an example of where you can see real gameplay of it, but either way there were plenty of games that had far less glitches that came out at the same time or even earlier then sonic o6 did, you cant blame it on the technology, and yes the graphics in this are far better then the final version, even look up a graphics comparison, the textures were far better and everything ran much smoother.
Also, looking at your profile a bit, it is obvious that you are a sonic fangirl/boy and that you love everything sonic, I've met plenty of people like you who refuse to admit when something of there series is bad. It seems that when Sonic would talk in games like SA1 with a regular mouth, it would look awkward and strange. It could also just be just a part of Sonic's modern redesign.
Sega was gona make this for the wii but due to the wii having non HD qualities they made alt decisions to make sonic and the secret rings and split up and a producer left sega because he didnt fell like he want involved in the game. On top of that they coudnt make the game like they wanted to due to the producer plus the sega aniversary was coming and the game was rushed. so thats why its not finish and have glitches....BTW we have the alpha version of the game.
The game was also gonna be released for PC but was cancelled for unknown reasons
Well for one thing the Sonic franchise has never been rebooted and they don't need to reboot it to make a fantastic game.

Even though this looks a crap ton better and even the music is better, there are still some parts that look bad, like the camera.

No, download the demo to a USB, and then play it on your 360.
I honestly prefer playing this than the retail game. It feels polished and stable whereas the retail does not.
This feels and sounds like the new sonic frontiers game play.

This demo looks exactly the same as the final product. Music, assets, everything looks the same. Maybe the frame rate is better and since this player is doing really well it makes the stage look better.
Captain Ressentiment The graphics look the same, but the final level looks completely different, the demo is obviously more polished and more realistic than the final, and his ending animation doesn't randomly stop.
Sonic's Jump Dash also aims downward like the Adventure Games and the E3 Demo of 06 as well.

I was looking for info on the Sonic '06 E3 demo and what happened to it and about what happened to CRASHICTH, when I came across this thread:

Anyone who thinks it looks like a PS2 game or a PS2 game with HD texture packs applied clearly has never seen either of those two things and has never seen what 360 games at the time looked like. This game has fantastic graphics for an early 360 title. Hate the game all you want because it is awful but don't criticize the game's good aspects simply because you're butthurt over the game being a piece of crap.
The TGS Stuff looked better, IMO. Take the graphics and character model from the TGS 2005 Trailer, mix it with the gameplay of the TGS 2005 gameplay (With some changes to make the gameplay better, like SA1 styled physics, speed and Spin Dash and being able to jump into enemies) and some animation changes and they could have built upon that to make a great game. (Of course, with the characters being much better to play as and a complete overhaul of the story.)

Do you work just nicely in small amounts, but once people get to see your full self, you become horribly glitchy and annoying?
I understand this looks better than the released game, but jesus how does anyone know where to go or what's going on? Like, there's obviously multiple paths to get to the end but it's so hard to understand where to go when it's 3D like this. At least with 2D Sonic the objective was clear: get to the right side of the stage. I would be pretty frustrated playing this.
What are you talking about? One of the few genuinely great things about this game is how big, expansive, and non linear the level design can be. More Sonic games need to be like that (as well as be fully 3D and not 2.5D mixed with 3D).
Every pathway eventually leads to the same place so I don't see why it would be hard to know where to go. I much prefer it like this because it gives lots of replay value and gives you a choice on how you want to finish the levels. Unlike Sonic Unleashed where it's just one or two paths and is a very linear hallway like game.

Lol, it is different, homing attack gives you momentum, light speed dash actually works well and the graphics look way better, and proved all of that by playing it myself
