- Shown in its entirety for the first time, this is the Sonic segment from Sega's Next Gen Showcase "SEGA THE FUTURE" at TGS 2005 (the extended version of Sega's legendary E3 2005 behind closed doors presentation... the full presentation has been sitting in my tape archives for 18 years - never originally published... just waiting for some restoration TLC... well I finally got around to it -- the 27-minute video is published for the first time anywhere here: • "Sega The Future" Next... ). This Sonic segment shows the full trailer and real-time tech demonstration by Yuji Naka - it looked amazing (and still does) and showed just how much potential there was in "Sonic 2006".
Funnily enough the day night circle IS still in the game and can still be moved around in real time as well as the debug and free camera states shown in this demo and promotional trailers
Really? Do you have any ideia where the day night cycle files are?
@@joaocoelho6903 no I don’t mod the game but there are videos covering it: ua-cam.com/video/q8uteBPqhiM/v-deo.html
@@sonicgamer178 video is privated :(
the tech demo looks great graphically and even the presentation of it. Haven't seen it in this high of quality before but it's too bad Sega wanted this game out for the holiday season and rushed it's development. It could've been an INSANE game
Wow. This is going to make alot of people happy, I'm sure
Can confirm, I'm one of those people
I'm more disappointed than happy personally. This is another reminder of what we could have gotten, but not what we actually did.

Knowing the development history of 06, I can't help but feel sorry for Nakamura (he is doing fine nowadays, he just finished his work in the new Samba de Amigo) and also feel A LOT of tension when I see Naka (if you know, you know)
I gotta say I have heard a lot of perspectives on Naka-san, but going purely on my personal experiences meeting him over the years, he was always affable, courteous and good spirited (which was not always the case with every creator/exec).
@@AdamDoree how did u meet him?
@@omarnsouli1555 I interviewed him about 5 or 6 times for my site
I remember seeing this at 10 years old and losing it over Sonic in "Next-Gen" graphics. That initial Chaos Emerald really brought me back. Thanks for the upload!
they being it back for a cutscene transition or a loading screen
This is a real treasure. So many interesting things in this tech demo, and I hope at some point maybe it could be released to the public if it exists somewhere, but I am fine with just seeing it all the same.
Thanks for the video, I remember that tech demo from TGS 2005... it looked amazing at the time
I don't remember a lot about the final Sonic 2006, but I think some of what made this demo feel quite epic might not have made it in tact into the final game. I guess in a sense that's what makes this video kind of a unique treasure.
@@AdamDoreeyeah, super sonic transformation in game was removed and things like the day and night cycle
Most people who have a soft spot for 06 played it when they were kids. I was older but I have a little nostalgia for these tech demos and how they sparked my imagination. Which is more than I can say for the game we actually got lol.
@@protocetid Same, I was very keen to check out 06 based on this tech demo especially since that first time I saw it at E3 2005 along with VF5 and just remember how insane-looking the next gen IP was.
Thank you so much for preserving this.
dude i cant believe insider trader yuji naka made video games
Finally, An Higher Quality Upload Of The Trailer, Along With Gameplay!
We finally got the full footage! Thank you so much!!
We know what happened
they had to make a game In time for the anniversary and It was what It was
but at the time a lot of people were really excited for this game
This is awesome 😮
funny how graphics looks like a Nintendo Switch game, but it's a game almost 20 years old
Kingdom valley Textures are looking Beautiful in the TGS version
Makes me wish this game was finished.
It looks like a pre-tech demo of Sonic Frontiers. Interesting.
Thank god project 06 is making this game good.
Very cool
If I had never seen that opening cinematic and you told me it was from Sonic Frontiers, I wouldn't be able to immediately disprove it. Pretty crazy how it took the better part of two decades for that open world Sonic dream to finally be fulfilled.
Definitely some DNA in common I reckon!
@@AdamDoree Chances are they made some open world experiments with 06 that didn’t pan out but were brought back for Frontiers. Nintendo has confirmed BoTW’s open world design has roots in OoT prototypes.
06cels eating good rn
This is awesome! It's so cool to have that real-time demo video finally in good quality!
Do you know if you might have any new Sonic Adventure 2 or Shadow the Hedgehog footage? Those are two other Sonic games that had a lot of changes during development.
There Graphics are insane.
This game could've been something special :/
I will never get over the way Sega acted during this game's development 😔
@@HazeX2 and they still rush games unfortunately... 🥲
Ekhem Sonic P06, ekhem.
@@BlueBlur2003 Sega: “Gotta go fast.”
Sonic Team: “Sure thing boss, we are working on the Sonic game and will have no trouble finishing it under a normal development timeline.”
Sega: “I said, gotta go fast!”
it is something special!! maybe not in a good way...
the graphics are actually so much better than the “final” game! especially for 2005!
Im honestly happier with what we got than what is shown here. Sonic looks way to stiff and slow. Honestly most of the gameplay looks like its running at half speed. The faster paced gameplay of the final is definitely an improvement, though its still remarkably stiff.
I mean this is just a tech demo, meant more for a showcase of the console and less to showcase the gameplay. They likely made everything slow just for this demo so that it's easier to look at the graphics
Even if that's the case, it still looks bad imo. You're free to have your own opinion, though.
@@tsumetai_kaze It's understandable WHY they made it slow and put such an emphasis on graphics, just compare this demo to Sonic Heroes
4:57 looks like there’s an entire area past the cliff Sonic is on, could it be just decoration?
Sonic's TGS animations look like he's constipated lmao
0:02 that sonic team startup is not present in the final version
Sonic Next Gen
I like how the 3d model for sonic here is better than the final lol. Also the physics here look even worse than the final and I don't know how that is possible
8 DAYS LATE SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The original and better Sonic Frontiers.
If they polished it completely, 100% true
