- Just a quick demonstration cam hack, well; more of a character location hack. I haven't really seen any for SH4, which is a shame, as it has some interesting stuff hidden away just out of sight. So I did my own. This video is just inside the eponymous Room and shows how they do the reflections.
I'll probably do more once I figure out how to move the actual camera if moving the character isn't enough.

phht, still works better than ones in mafia 3
It's actually the standard way, even red dead redemption 2 uses this trick :) (the new standard though is growing to be raytracing)
I can't help but wonder if this programming influenced silent hills/pt. I mean, they could have just programmed empty black space. But instead, they programmed mirrored versions of the room.
This is actually how most games do reflections. And if it's a game that shows your character in the mirror too, it's the same thing except with an NPC character following the same movement you do!
if you played harry potter 2 on ps1, you probably could have noticed at the location in the bank, the floor was also not transparent
That's not really programming. Just map layout. They didn't have good reflection technology at the time, so they had to recreate some mirror versions to place on the other side of transparent textures.
I was kinda hoping you would have gone out to the area, that you see when you look out of the window. It looked fully rendered and there's a lot going on 😕
When I eventually come back to this, I will do a lot more exploring, but outside the room there's just a not-very-high quality skybox - so you can't interact with it. I never found the actual outside cell (where you see Cynthia). Intriguingly, there are the cut (from the PC version) hauntings assets visible way below the level.
And so begins I'm talking about when you look out the window and you see things happening. For example, the scene where you see Cynthia outside and she walks down into the subway. there's also people doing things in their Apartments. That looks rendered to me. 🤔
Yah, that's a different cell that you switch to when you interact with the window.

Even if they're poaching my viewers, go subscribe, honestly, I'm not even going to bother doing more of these as they've achieved pretty much what I was going to.
Although I would like to see smoother full frame HD versions ;)

1:53 I wonder why the devs left a texture sheet outside the appartment boundaries 🤔
I know that assets which will be used are located outside the level and then moved (like the detached haunting effects running way below the level), so at a guess it would be a similar thing.
@@AndSoBegins Ohh okay, so I guess when they were making the game, they would have had that texture sheet in place in case they wanted to quickly texture a piece of geometry or a model. Just my guess lol.
Anyhow, if ever you get back to making camera hacking videos of more of the areas and levels of Silent Hill 4, I'll be there 😄👍

These textures are usually left there as references or for application purposes like re-copying a texture or remapping the texture

The terms for this are "no clip" or "out of bounds". I wonder what the purpose of that brown texture is at 1:35.

Yeah but what is it there for? What does it do? How do we see it in the game? Seems like it's just a texture that's blocked from view and never seen.

I thought it might be related to the room during Joseph Schreiber's nightmare, like maybe during that scene the textures shift and then that brown texture just moves forward in front of the door to make it look rusted shut, but that graphic doesn't seem to match the door seen in the game. Maybe the developers were going to use it as a haunting but abandoned it in favor of the bleeding eye hole.

Justin govak I don't share exact methodology anymore, but the basic idea is to use something like cheat engine to capture the character position.

cam hack, mas esse port do pc é muito mal feito então as chances de crashar o jogo é 90%
o Silent Hill 4 é o que mais tem coisas interessantes pra explorar e não tem ninguém que fez uma Camera Hack fora do apartamento, nas fases do jogo '-'

I used ARTMoney. I walked back and forth trying to add and, then subtract unknown values to get at the character position.
