I trained my GSD from a pup. Today I allowed her to chase a bunny and she was having so much fun but then it darted towards the road. I yelled her recall command and she snapped back to me like it was life or death. I have never been so proud of my girl. In mid chase the commands got through. My girl is amazing.

Absolutely right about calmness. We need to train ourselves first! If my partner gets furious and aggressive to my Corso the dog starts doing it back. Scary. She's never done this to me, calm is crucial.

This is exactly how my dog behaves. I've been consistently "behavioring" and training him for about a year, but it was like a light went on in his head, and now he does this, and I trust and appreciate him so much more. I found Mike's book just today, and I am going to read and use it. Train your dogs, they're your most effective physical allies!

So if I am looking for a good dog to be a companion and home protection dog, but don't want to spend $10k on an imported Belgian Malinois from Europe, where do I look for one? I'm not going to be doing any kind of SEAL team stuff, but I'd like to be able to sic and then disengage the dog if I need to. Are my expectations reasonable? Can I spend less than $2k on an American bred Belgian or Shepard and still train him to a higher level?

I've always wondered how people in rattlesnake country can train a dog to stay away from them. It would have to be a super disciplined dog because every instinct a dog has is telling it to go fuck with that snake. Just like every dog encounter with a porcupine ends with a face full of quills. Your dog might be loyal and disciplined, but c'mon its still a dog.

Mike, I keep my good friends dog for a week at a time when they go on vacation and the dog it a large Black female German Shepard from a line of imported German bred police dogs. She was sold to a civilian because she didn't have the "High" drive required for Police dog work. She is a "Medium" drive dog at best and she's 2 years old and has been "Fixed". She will destroy every ball I can find and was wondering if you can recommend a brand that you use because we all know how expensive "Dog" toys can be! It looks like in this video you are using the "Chuckit" brand ball, is that your prefered brand? I am thinking about getting a "rescue" Belgium Malanois as there are too many dogs that end up in rescue situations as they are too much for the owners to handle and I want to help save a dog that could be put down because of behavioral problems. Plus I know what these dogs sell for as my friends spent over 5K on their Black Shepard and BMs can go for 6 figures if you wanted to go that route. What's your opinion on adopting rescue dogs?

But it's obvious you know how and you want to share. Keep practicing. Ask a stranger to watch this video. I realize this is off topic. But I saw a person bring up the warrior dogs. So I figure if they can do it I can take it and run with it in a different direction. And it'll just be like a free-for-all plan ADHD comment section. Anyways, do Warrior dogs lose hearing from being in combat and being exposed? What is the most common side effect on a canine as a result of multiple combat situations? Do they suffer from stresses or not?

I got in trouble for getting a dog ,they didn't want me to have him, there was a bunch of dogs at the farm, that pup kept coming to me,I don't ask for much, just had to have him,my x husband hated him,and I guess , o well, I do remember we went to a residential and that had the scariest Rottweiler s,and kennels, one of the creepiest places, they were supposed to had all the dogs in the kennel when we arrived, it was awful, e took out all the flooring, there was one dog in the corner, just not right , just saying, my dog could eat off the floor we don't let him , I was raised with pets, anyway, it was filthy in there, one dog looked like his face was burned, the owner said he was albino, still the dogs were supposed to be in her kennels in the back of the property, hen bringing materials in there he was, I just backed up, I ain't going in there, somehow, we put the floor in with video,at heal, ready to pounce now good day

New rescue Cletus with us and working on some things- I'm able to set his meal down on his mat and without a single word he knows to sit and wait - we exchange a certain look now. He doesn't get to eat the chow until I say "ok" - more stuff we are working on. Cletus is a regular family dog so we just want to make sure we aren't pulled down the sidewalk (also improving and he will look back and focus on us) or having a totally checked out dog. He comes from violence and abuse and while harness isn't ideal, we are making gains on leash manners. It seems to work best for him and due to some events in his past we just kept the harness. If we had started as younger /puppy I would never get a harness. So takes more time to get that leash manners stuff squared away but we make progress each time. We got lucky he isn't reactive or dramatic seeing people and animals out and about . Isn't aggressive. Just anxiety and still in decompression stages of adoption. The anxiety we are tackling from 3 prong approach - meds as needed via vet, consistent exposure to the things that cause anxiety and learning what makes him at ease which is us being calm, consistent, and he actually likes his crate. For a rescue with some dark days in his past and being with us only around 5 weeks, we are proud of the progress. I would say the biggest thing is us staying chill and consistency. He is very smart and well mannered. It's amazing to me he innately knows how to protect his home. He only barks when appropriate- folks approaching house or yard etc. He patrols the house regularly. No one knows he is a pile of love goo and not aggressive. His bark, situational awareness and stance is deterrent enough for others risking our safety. Not sure how he knows that. Recent walk he and i were together and my husband was at work. An off leash dog charged us and I had my pepper spray, police baton and non challenging but protective stance. Turns out the loose dog was a silly goober but Cletus stood between me and that dog and calmly got through the event with tolerance but very aware and protective. I didn't teach that. I wouldn't know how to teach that. We just work on the super basics. So proud of him

Clearly that dog was already trained to the point of not doing something until you said "Ok". Showing how to get to that point would have been more useful for most of us I think.

Great video! My dog has huge prey drive and it's something I've struggled with to help him out. Going to try this. Thank you!

Agree! I've suggested Mike be on Rogan's podcast many times but it probably got lost in the thousands of comments.
