  • The Carmellas explain: Boeing workers strike ✈️
Tens of thousands of machinists voted Thursday to reject a proposed deal between the company and the union that would have significantly boosted pay and benefits even as it fell short of other union demands.
Some 96 percent of members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 voted in favor of the strike - far more than the two-thirds needed to launch the work stoppage.
“Boeing has to stop breaking the law, has to bargain in good faith, and we will be back at the table whenever we can get there to drive forward on the issues that our members say are important,” Jon Holden, president of IAM District 751, told a room of machinists at the Seattle union hall.

Putting edit before orignal post. Click "read more"
Edit: Didnt realize this would get steam. Couple tings on my comment. Yes its napkin math. It only meant to be a quick comment. The base of comment is, Boeing will end up paying alot more than Airbus, but the enviroment of the works are such, as a dual income household, I live in a really nice house. I eat out twice a week, go on mutiple holidays, i have a daily car which suits my needs, and i drive a bmw m2 on the weekends.
The Boeing employee has no pension, has no house, probs has a nice car (gotta have something) and likely has a room mate. He also works more hours. Airbus offers overtime, but often, even with the backlog, doesnt have any. Its usually someone is ill or on holiday, thats it. They employ enough to meet the means of production.
So some contect. Theyre paid around $75k a year. The 25% would of got it around $89k, but they want 40%, roughly $100k, plus pensions, but boeing said more contributions to 401k. The production cost goes from $2,400,000 a year to $3,400,000 year
Airbus in the uk. Doesnt pay the most. Some "Craft" workers (they build the plane) can earn more in other companies. A qualified Craft work earns £46k day rates (5 shifts, 37.5 hours paid) or £49 night shifts (4 shifts 30 hours paid) plus 25 days holiday paid, pension, ect.
£46k is around $70k.(edit: actually around $61k) The main thing is, a nice house litrally oppisite the factory of 11000 workers cost around
£200k, which is around $280k. While Boeing is based in areas that cost $800k.
Also, if boeing wages go up, so would mine😅

a 40% raise over 3 years is insane. I know house prices have gone up that much, that's because Washington state government won't allow enough houses to be built. Everyone having more money won't make more houses affordable, it's like holding an auction for a place on the last lifeboat on the Titanic.

Didn’t they gave their CEO a 46% pay increase just recently before all this?
Edit: it was only a 45% increase to a pitiful some of $32,800,000 ish per year.
