  • I have finally found a Citizen that I really want to own and I think it may well be one of the best affordable automatic watches I have experienced. Or at least one of my favorites.
    Thank you so much for WATCHing my video and I hope that you check out all my other content.
    I release 3 videos per week, all watch related, including reviews, first impressions and general watch related topics.
    I try very hard to diversify my content as well and will feature big known watch brands, microbrands as well as Aliexpress watches.
    The majority of the watches I feature are in the affordable range but I do try and get some less affordable watches as well.
    Most of the watches that I feature I have bought with my own money. I buy them to enjoy and wear but I also to feature them on this channel.
    Being a smaller channel it is challenging to cover the cost of all the watches that I buy and partly because of this I have become an affiliate member with a number of companies including Aliexpress, Ashford.com and Jomashop.
    If you are looking for watches from well known brands then it is worth checking out:
    www.ashford.com
    www.jomashop.com
    As an affiliate member I may leave affiliate links in the descriptions of videos. These links will direct you to the watches that I’ve experienced, reviewed and would certainly recommend. If you choose to use those links I will earn a very small commission.
    Thank you very much if you choose to use those links.
    Below are affiliate links for my absolute favorite watches on Aliexpress. Each of them I have owned and had positive experiences with the stores that they are linked to.

    I bought the blue dial like a month ago, found it cheap on Amazon UK, I did have to regulate it amd got it to -5 a day. I’m not a fan of the miyota movements but wanted a automatic citizen, it’s a nice watch for the money.

    Glad that you love it mate, the squeaky bracelet hand me in tears 😂😂. I’ve been having a similar experience with Citizen, I would love to own one but am yet to find anything that appeals to me on any level. I want to like them and have tried on several at jewellery stores but I get nothing no feelings at all. Some of their chronographs look nice but loose me when I have them in hand. I’ll keep looking but I’m not going to hold my breath 🤙

      @@WATCHingJames I’m also struggling with bulova, apart from the Luna pilot and the American clipper there is nothing there that interests me, have you seen the new tissot Chemin des tourelles? Comes in 39mm and 42mm. The 39 will be my next purchase, my local jewellery store will do 10-20% off depending on who’s working at the time 😜

    I have a Citizen Eco Drive diver, i did not like the supplied silicone band with expandable ribbing at all, so i put it on a Nato strap, quite light for its size, little bit of a funky look with the cathedral hands, but for those lovers of lume "WOW", it is exceptional.It is a great "grab and go" watch, keeps perfect time and its always ready to go when you are. Batterly life when supported with the eco drive feature is 5 years but i do not know of anyone who has got less than 10 yrs, with many reporting a astonishing life of 20 years.Seems to be a well made,well put together watch, not my fave, but strangely enough,if i had to keep just one of my watches it would be my choice, just because it looks ok, fits well, and is so low maintinance.

    My first "proper" watch was a Citizen automatic only that my mum bought me for my birthday in 1992 - £29 from Argos in the UK; it's a beat-up but it still works fine.
    In 2020 I picked up an Eco-Drive mecaquartz chronograph here in Moscow - cost a lot more than it would in the West, but fantastic anyway. Still, I can't wait to compare it with the Tactical Frog from AliExpress when that arrives- I plan to kick off my UA-cam channel with a comparison video. By the way, thanks for your review of the Mysterious Code watch. I got one; it's bonkers but I love it. Cheers 🍻!

      I have a NJ0100-71L (the one with blue teaked dial), and the bracelet looks and feels surprisingly good for what it is. I actually prefer it to solid link bracelets from AliExpress, same for the Citizen pressed clasp vs. AliExpress milled clasps. Comparing it to other affordable watches, I believe that it has some kind of coating as both clasp and bracelet have fewer scratches than my other watches.

    I also own a few watches with "60" at twelve o'clock. Though I can't understand why? When it goes from 59 seconds, it goes to one minute. And not to 60 seconds! 😄 Should be "00" at twelve o'clock.

    ..... yep the bracelet is awful .... that is why I bought the black dial version on the high quality brown leather strap that is probably worth $100 on its own ............. I also wear it on a black Xeric Horween leather strap that looks great ..... I have a 6 3/4 inch wrist and thought at 42mm this watch would be too big but it wears smaller than it would seem ....... an added bonus is that it doesn't have an annoying screw down crown ........ if I need something totally waterproof and tough enough to drive in nails with I just wear my original Ray Mears Promaster ............

    Holy crap balls that is the squeakiest watch that I have ever heard that’s crazy, and imo completely unacceptable for a watch that sells for 399 regular price, wow. The dial and case are wonderful and it looks quite sharp on the squeaker. Bracelet reminds me of the Seiko folded steel, less squeaks. Def a looker!

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Рік тому +2

      I now have to nickname this one squeaker. The perfect name.
      I’m really enjoying it.

    • @LoranHarding
      @LoranHarding Рік тому +1

      Re the squeaking bracelet, what if one VERY JUDICIOUSLY, probably with an artists brush, applied a little bit of light oil between the links, to the extent you could, on both sides? Then wipe off any excess carefully. Wear it for a few months, and repeat. Bet you'd quiet it down.
      BTW, Seiko, at least, polishes their cases in the area between the lugs. And I mean BETWEEN THE LUGS. I like that bling which is very visible, e.g., on my Seiko turtle with its silicon strap that came on the watch. When you put a bracelet on a watch, you lose that bit of bling and get all the potential headaches that come with a bracelet. When I bought the Turtle in Dec. 2016, I bought three more of the wonderful silicon straps from the Seiko repair facility in NJ. Today, those straps go for 3X what I paid. All three are still put away in my home. The silicon strap lasts and lasts, at least the way I live. Huge improvement over the rubber straps that Seiko used to use, apparently cut from an old tire out back. Were I to buy this Citizen auto, I think I'd buy it on the leather. Not likely though, since one auto- the Turtle- is enough of a handfull to keep going. It DOES keep going if one has it off the wrist for maybe 12 hours.
      I had a new 4R36 movement installed in the Turtle in June, 2023. Now running like new. Easy for the watchmaker to obtain since still widely used by Seiko. The original movement was acting up after six years, losing 10 min. in 3 three days. Regulating it did not cure it, so he recommended the new 4R36. Brand new 4R36 was half the price of a new Turtle. and now the watch loses 20 seconds a month, plenty good enough for me to drive to the bank, grocery store, Kaiser, WM and the Bay Area. I have two Casio atomics and so I can see the exact time.
      Recall that the first Bulova Tuning Fork watch in ~1970 claimed accuracy of a minute a month. People could hardly believe it and it sold big. My Turtle is half that accurate and no electronics.
      Citizen has done something great with this NJ0100. Imagine the skull sessions, drawings, prototypes they went through to get to this design! Months and months of it, but they got there! Since it does not have a screw down crown, I suppose I could own one and wind it every couple days. Alternate it with the Turtle. When a watch has a screw down, you don't want to be undoing all of that all of the time to wind it since you are putting wear on the screw down components when you do. Five times a year is plenty.

    • @LoranHarding
      @LoranHarding Рік тому +1

      Harding again: Correction: my Turtle is now losing two minutes a month, half the accuracy of the Bulova Turning Fork watch of 1970.
