Rental cars will be the first casualty of Cybercabs. I've been saying that for years. Think about all the issues with them. First is just renting a vehicle, then at an airport having to take your luggage on a shuttle to get to the rental car hub. Filling out all those forms. Looking at buying a 2022 Chrysler Pacific. It has a usb-c port next to every usb-a port. I think 8 of each. I like Tesla, but in 2024, they are not the only ones including USB-C. Kind of a silly thought.
In the real versions they may have sensors to limit the upward travel in a garage and the ability to limit the outward motion with a more complex computer controlled two axis hinge and motion control mechanism. Up and out slightly, then straight up without going wide when parked next to other cars and needing to open the doors. It can always pull out of a parking slot to open door to take in passengers, such at a Hertz Rental Parking lot where you may rent one, and walk out to the lot to get in it, or it will come to you after your rent it for for staying a city. Why rent one? You may be carrying g equipment you want to store in the car along with your luggage for the hotel or motel. I see a case where single story motels have your room and a garage to house the car and charge it inductively in the future with a ln interior door to access the vehicle without going outside for higher security, so you don’t have to go outside without the car, where criminals could rob you easily. Also, getting into the vehicle instead keeps you from dealing with rain or snow, allows the elimination of a parking lot, and easy snow clearing for snow areas like ski resorts. It a lodge, there would be internal doors leading to common areas like lobby’s and the complimentary breakfast/brunch, swimming pools, bars and gym equipment, hotel restaurant room service deliveries, meeting rooms, lounges, etc
@@-JustHuman- at this point, I assume it was completely tele operated, except when they walked out or doing those dances. Just disappointed since that’s what seemed most impressive about the event.
If the cybercab is guilty of a traffic violation, who pays the fine? Passengers cannot since they did not commit the violation. The cybercab committed the violation, so does tesla pay or the owner of the passengers
I believe the timeline is all about "unsupervised FSD". He said 2025 for current Tesla Models to get "unsupervised FSD" for California and Texas (rollout of CT went to reservations first for those 2 states as well if that has any relevance). That will not happen on day 1 2025? There would be no reason to start production until after "unsupervised FSD" happens. So, my prediction is 1 year after "unsupervised FSD" happens to start production of the CyberCab.
Great assessment for you two….thanks. My take is; not perfect by any, measure, but miles ahead of any other auto maker. Tesla just fired a warning shot over all of their heads. Scoff if you like, but acknowledge that Tesla engineeering excellence is pushing us towards the future!
Perhaps the two year waiting period is for the construction of some giant plastic extruding machines for the exterior body. So aluminum front and back subframing and extruded something body makes a pretty simple car.
The robovan/bus will likely use many existing parts from the Tesla catalog. Think about how the Semi has parts used on other models. I suspect the 2027 estimated timeline is heavily influenced by regulations. Getting government agencies to move quickly is difficult.
I wish someone had taken a laser measuring tool or just a tape measure and got us a length for the thing. I cannot for the life of me tell from pictures how long it is and that's crucial. Half the advantage of a two seater is parking and obviously if they make a driveable version of this until regulatory approval is available in all markets, the shorter it is the better. If it's not actually a smaller footprint than the Model 3, it's not that interesting (except second hand if it's then cheaper by far). If, however, it's Ford Fiesta sized that's interesting. For convenience the Fiesta is 2 feet (65cm) shorter than a Model 3. It's a huge difference in a city with on street parking (as in, parallel to the pavement without nose on parking spots) and also, a huge difference in traffic as you can fit more cars between junctions.
Guys, they could still do stainless but just a thinner version of what they are doing on the cybertruck. Stainless still saves them on the need for a paint shop. Maybe carbon fiber saves them weight and the need to paint. Let's see how this all plays out. The smaller vehicle looks like an old Honda Prelude.
I agree carpet needs to go away. It's the dumbest choice for a flooring material anywhere. I don't understand why manufacturers are obsessed with putting fabric materials in vehicles. Car interiors should all be hard waterproof materials that can easily be hosed out
If this is was built in TX then this is the Un Box method -- then this implies that is the $25K Un box Tesla -- just add driver controls and rear seats

Looking at buying a 2022 Chrysler Pacific. It has a usb-c port next to every usb-a port. I think 8 of each. I like Tesla, but in 2024, they are not the only ones including USB-C. Kind of a silly thought.
Robo taxis are fine but the real star of the show is Optimus
Awe… teleoperated… that sucks.
Thanks for the hands on review!
Seems only the voice was a operator. But it's not like they don't have the tech in Grok.
@@-JustHuman- at this point, I assume it was completely tele operated, except when they walked out or doing those dances.
Just disappointed since that’s what seemed most impressive about the event.
Robotaxi , Robots, were remotely controlled. So is Starship.
No one has commented that the roof line looks very much like the roadster--at least to me.
If the cybercab is guilty of a traffic violation, who pays the fine? Passengers cannot since they did not commit the violation. The cybercab committed the violation, so does tesla pay or the owner of the passengers
The red states will send the tickets to Tesla headquarters.
The blue states will send the tickets to Elon's home address.
Elon says it’s pronounced Rabavin compared to Robovan 😂
The robotaxi is the second gen automation. First gen will be 3/y.

These taxis won't park except in their permanent lodging spots.
The robovan/bus will likely use many existing parts from the Tesla catalog. Think about how the Semi has parts used on other models.
I suspect the 2027 estimated timeline is heavily influenced by regulations. Getting government agencies to move quickly is difficult.
Elon said 2026, then he said before 2027. To mean that means exactly the same thing. Except before 2027 gives you a range between now and end of 2026.
It began getting irrelevant when the sentence started with "Elon said"
@@sca04245 ok?
The Robovan looked like the troop carrier thing in I Robot... so the use case is to carry Elon's Robot Army
There are other ways to avoid paint shop. Stainless is a major pain to shape.
I agree carpet needs to go away. It's the dumbest choice for a flooring material anywhere. I don't understand why manufacturers are obsessed with putting fabric materials in vehicles. Car interiors should all be hard waterproof materials that can easily be hosed out
Really surprised no support for wheelchair access
The seats should be able to be pushed way back to accept a wheelchair where the seat was
I would be very surprised if it wasn't wheelchair accessible, or at least make some wheelchair-accessible versions.
The van is probably the vehicle for most wheelchair users
If this is was built in TX then this is the Un Box method -- then this implies that is the $25K Un box Tesla -- just add driver controls and rear seats
