- Hey y'all and welcome to Sewspire!
Today, I am here to show you how to sew a fabulous linen crossbody hipster bag.
For this project you will need a half yard of linen and a half yard of cotton; plus a half yard of Pellon heavyweight iron on interfacing, a swivel d-ring clasp/closure and a swivel key fob.
To begin, precut the follow fabric pieces
Cut four 9" x 11" body panels (two from linen and two from cotton; line all with Pellon)
Cut one 28" x 3" interior gusset (from cotton, line with Pellon)
Cut one 28" x 9" exterior gusset (from linen, line with Pellon after pleating)
Cut one 5" x 10" fob strap (from cotton, no Pellon)
Cut four 5" x 8" exterior and interior pocket (from cotton, no Pellon)
Cut two 10" x 9" flaps (from cotton, line one with Pellon)
Cut one 16" x 4" closure strap (from linen, no Pellon)

I love the pocket method which l've never done before and the pleating effect around the gusset . I plan on making another one using linen next time as I'm sure it give a better result . Thanks again for another fabulous tutorial . How about Linear for a name . xx
I love this bac. Thanks 🌺💕
georgeous bags.
Love this bag. Really love the fabrics you chose too. You make the tutorial very easy to understand how to make the bag. Can't wait to make one myself.
Thank you Tammi! I am excited for you to have such a beautiful bag!
Thank you for yet another fantastic tutorial. I have learned so much from you. I appreciate how you explain everything slowly and clearly. If only I could sew as fast as you, lol. This bag is so fashionable and very functional. I'm all about adding as many compartments to my bags as possible. Love the key fob idea. Best of all, this bag does not require much fabric at all. Have an awesome sewspire day. Julie
Thank you Julie! I am so happy you like this design! XO, Andrea
So thorough…..thank you
Hi Andrea this bag is absolutely stunning and what is so nice is that it would fit any occasion depending on the fabrics used. I would love to visit Joannes, I hear so many people mention this store. I really love the hardware used on this bag as it really makes it look so professional. You are an amazing designer Andrea and I can see this lovely creation seeing me right through summer. Thank you again for a wonderful tutorial, big hugs and loves Andreaxxxxxxxx🙋🏻😘❤️ Dorothy
Thank you Dorothy! That means so much coming from you. I am glad you like the design and happy you will be making yourself one. Do you have any big fabric shops where you are? Big hugs and loves! Andrea

I love this idea, this will be great for the end tables that I have so much on. I have not sewn with Linen before but I have with canvas. This will be a great project to do. Thanks again for a great job and great step by step instructions as always.
sorry I was watching another video of yours and just realized it changed on me, so my comment is not making sense. This was for the bag with the three inserts you made for your bedside table (Sewspire Studio Vlog: March17,2018). lol
LOL! I was wondering about that!
Awesome! love your videos
Thank you!
I love this bag and your tutorials! So easy to follow!

Thanks for sharing Andrea, I will have one too🍀👋💜
Yay! I am so happy for you!
it's just a wonderful project
UA-cam should include a ❤ option!!! Absolutely beautiful :)
That would be fun!
It's very beautifull. I will try to do it. Thank you.
Great bag Andrea. Will have to go by JoAnn’s and check out their linen. Love both bags you created. I’ve never sewn with linen before. Can’t wait to see what it feels like to the touch. I think (will have to go look) that you used interfacing on all the linen pieces. I was going to ask about wrinkles but probably not with the interfacing. Love the hardware you used. Such lovely bags. Thanks for designing and sharing such an awesome bag.
Have a great week and God Bless.
Happy Sewing. ✂️❌⭕️ Pam
That's a great question Pam! I have been using the brown linen bag for 4 days now and no wrinkles yet. It wouldn't have occurred to me that the interfacing would keep the linen from wrinkling; but, I bet that is the trick! God Bless you too! XO, Andrea
Sewspire You used Decor Bond right? It is very stiff and could be why no wrinkles. Have you washed anything using the Decor Bond? I still think after washing it would keep the linen wrinkle free but maybe softer? I don’t know. Never washed anything with this interfacing. Just curious! XO Pam
Lovely explanation if possible can u show us one day how to make a strap u can adjust ? Xx
Thank you, I have just recently started to sew with linen. It is just wonderful to work with.
I have a question, what is the seam allowance for the outside pocket?
thank you so much
I been waiting for bags just like this one. I love all your videos and all of your bags, thanks to you I able to make a lot of bags and purse. Thank you
I have a questions can able to sell the bags or purses that you put out from your video?
Absolutely! I am thrilled that you are enjoying the channel!
This is just a stunning bag, and it does not look homemade. If I make this bag out of canvas, would I need to use Pelion to line the pieces? I cannot wait to make this cross body bag. Thank for sharing your talent and knowledge.
Hello! I would not use the Pellon if you are working with canvas. Let us know how it turns out!
can you please create something like the "cheyenne rope bag" ? please!? I watch all your tutorials, youre my favorite. I do my own patterns.. but with inspiratin , mostly from you! I just made a gorgeous diaper bag/ tote bag from techniques from several videos. Thank you for everything you do.. I would love to meet you!
Thank you Amber! I am so happy you are able to adapt and create your own patterns from my tutorials. It is an honor to serve as a source for your inspiration. The Cheyenne Rope bag is gorgeous and Kay Whitt is such a talented designer! Have you considered buying her PDF tutorial? XO, Andrea
Yes, I did purchase it. But I love your patterns & how you teach. I'm sure you'd come up with an amazing backpack!
Hey Andrea. I chose cotton fabric and quilted it. I was curious because it wasn't said but how far down from the top was the 7" slit made for the pocket? I chose 2"
Love your bag tutorials! Do you have one with a zipper pocket under the flap?
I don't; but, agree that would be a nice addition to this style! If we do a remake I will add the zipper.
OK, thank you. . . I just love pockets and am learning how to do zippers. I look forward to your future videos.
this is fabulous, how du u make your signature tabs?
I ordered those on Etsy from RememberWynn
tres jolie simple et classe j aime continuer comme vous êtes c juste que je parle pas anglais les boules!!!!!!!!! je conte sur vous pour m aider a realiser vos tutos merci
hi mam...i see all ur videos n jst love the way u explain.. i have one question... in crossbody bag if i want to attach zipper on main pocket how can i attach flap after zipped? if u understand my question plz reply...thnx
You could stitch the flap to the exterior of the bag and hide the stitch line with a French seam.
I looked at the etsy shop for your bag makers tutorial bundle and could not find it. can you help?
Hello! Here's the link for you: www.etsy.com/listing/241893401/my-best-offer-summer-sale-bag-making
Do we have to use linen?
No :) You can use anything you like!
What Janome do you have?
Hello Chandra! I have a Janome DC2012 and Magnolia. I love them both; but, the 2012 does have more power.
How can I bay this pattern
I don't have a pattern for this style yet. Just the video. I do have other patterns for sale though: sewspire.patternbyetsy.com
👍👍👍😳😳😳👏👏👏😊😊😊😘😘
So thorough….thank you
