I researched a long time before purchasing my next DSLR. I ended up with the 80D and shoot amateur sports mostly. I love my 80D! The best comment I got was a new parent said "Our old team had a photographer, but her photos are nothing like your photos!". The only downside I can see is if you want 4K video, which wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

There are a few downsides. Low light performance, lack of IBIS, lack of 120fps on 1080, inability to shoot flat/log.

@@RyanPutranto lol Yeah, those points are true. Of course there's no camera that comes anywhere close to hitting the same price point with those features.
"There are a few downsides, it doesn't handle like a Lotus, doesn't accelerate like a Porsche, or have the interior of a Bentley."
True, and it cost the same as a Toyota Camry.
      lol

Thanks for your video, very informative. I have the 60D and the 70D and for six months now can't stop thinking about the 80D. The only reason I haven't bought it is I thought Canon would come out with a 90D and I would skip the 80 just knowing the 90 would have it all. But I suppose they came up with the EOS R instead which costs 3 or four times more, so I'm thinking of the body of a 80D and and better 75 to 300 zoom lens instead of the kit lens, i really see the difference in a kit lens and a better lens, but not sure which one i only have two lens one is 18 to 135 which is a must, and a little bit better than the 75 to 300 kit lens. I do arial photography, hummingbirds, lots of sports, races motorcycles and sprint cars, and flowers, and astrophotoghy, that lens is a 8" over 2,000mm for the moon and clusters and nova's, but I also want a good lens for the milky way without the telescope lens, if you could recommend a good lens, that would nice. I thank you

In my 20’s I was a wedding photographer and worked in a local camera shop. Just recently retired and NEEDED to find something to do. My wife said I should get back into photography. The 80D was my purchase. Coming from a Bronica 6X7, modern cameras have features that will take me years to learn. Half the fun is learning the new features that I can utilize.

Been using it for almost two years now, almost every day. Never leaves my side, and I haven't had any issues with it.
    Fantastic pictures and video.
Very solid camera, externally and internally.
The 18 -135 lens that's included is APS-C, so there's no crop/magnification as you would get on a full frame lens.
I recommend this camera all the time.

    • @nobodyimportant72
      @nobodyimportant72 6 років тому +1

Actually there still is a crop factor to consider. The EF-S lens lengths are given as if they are for FF despite not fitting on them. If you have a 40 or 50mm prime put those on and then tell me that they are more "zoomed" in than the 18-135 would be at those same setting.
Certainly do enjoy my 80D but none lenses you'd buy for it will already account for the crop factor in their labelling. Now there are some you don't get the full range on for all focus points but that's usually due to lens construction.

Bought the 80D last year from Best Buy. Got it with the 18-135 kit lens for $1150. Showed them a competitor priced at the time for $1149 and they matched it. I bought the same exact setup and lenses except the 100mm....haven't tried that lens. The 18-135 nano USM while a variable aperture kit lens, is fast focusing and quiet in video. If you use fast glass it's not that bad in lower light.

I think the 80d still relevant because it is wonderful for video and photo. It has better video bit rates higher than the 6d mark ii with all-i capabilities. I have always inclined more towards lenses. I own the m5 and 60d which i believe still great for photos. I read on a forum someone saying they had the 60d but felt behind everyone bc all their new cameras. I shook my head no no. What makes the difference are the lenses.. 24l, 24105l, 50mm, 85mm, 135f2, 1018mm, 18 135 kit, 35l, thats what makes the difference. Huh i forgot lighting equipment and more importantly practice above all.

Waiting for the 90D at new camera prices didn't make sense so after researching it, decided to go with the 80D/18-145mm kit. It's a huge jump in technology from my old trusty 40D. Easy camera to fall in love with. Great images and loaded with features. No regrets.

Currently I am working with a Canon T6. I am an entry level photographer and although I am keeping an eye on the 80D as my next body it is glass I am really looking at. The 70-200 f4 is in my sights.
Because I am an amateur the f4 is a better economical range for me at this point to be looking at. Just have to remember that the brighter light is better for f4.
I hope they do come out with a 90D or whatever soon for it will make the 80D come down in price. But for anyone out there that thinks they have to have the cutting edge but you are not a professional just stop already.
It is not the gear but your eye and knowledge of your equipment you are using that is going to get you those tasty pictures. And that is not even talking about what you can do in post.
The 80D is an amazing camera for that next step up in bodies. Just don't forget it is the glass that is most important. Invest in that before you upgrade your body.
    18-35 f4
    24-70 f4
    70-200 f4
That is my list for glass I would love to get before I step up my body. The 2.8 or better will be what I will look at when I finally go full frame.
If you are an amateur these telescopic lenses will be amazing for your collection and give you good results is not amazing. They will give you the range you want then go for primes. That is my opinion anyways.

  • @Captain-Cosmo
    @Captain-Cosmo 4 роки тому

The most underrated feature for video is the 3x zoom, which it achieves by cropping not from too small a sensor as has been the traditional method to avoid, but by cropping one that is "too large". That is, no quality loss! Servo AF is lots, but not regular "push-button" AF. This makes it GREAT or travel, either eliminating the need to carry a long telephoto, or really letting you get in close with a real optical one. Just stay away from the longer digital zoom to 6x, which does crop into the pixel frame and really should not have even been included. My 80D was a refurb direct from Canon that included both the 18-55 and 55-250 for under $700 total. I enjoy it alongside my 5DIV for weddings. Terrific.

I bought the 80D a couple years ago and was pointed in that direction by my camera guy at the camera store I have since adopted. He actually talked me out of the GH5 even though he had it there. He sold me what I needed and not what I wanted and for that I will be a life long customer....enough of that....I consider myself to know nothing about photography but I am learning and I have been really happy with the 80D. I was pleased you mentioned spending money on the lens because after I bought the kit 80D I went back to my camera guy and talked him into selling me the canon EF 100-400mm lens and I love it! I do a lot of outdoor camping, hiking, canoeing back country type of things and when weight isn't an issue I drag the 80D along and although I am still learning I have to say that 100-400 lens gets me pictures and video that makes it look like I know what I am doing....I don't really! I am pleased that everything you said about the 80D was almost exactly what my guy told me.

I purchased the 80D last year(mid 2018) after being a Pentax user for many years. The Canon is outstanding. I bought it with the kit lens EF 18 - 135mm and get brilliant photos. I also have the Canon EF 70 -300mm f/4 -5.6 IS USM zoom lens to go with it. I also like having the 45 focal points spread across the screen instead of squeezed into the center which produces really crisp photos. The best feature with the lens is the image stabilisation which I find brilliant for action photography especially when panning. The 80D is so easy to use and feels solid in the hands, without being too weighty. Highly recommended.

Bought the 80D last year(mid 2018). Amazing camera. I tend to use mainly L Series lens and get brilliant photos. I totally agree that the glass used makes all the difference so put your money there. I also find that having the 45 focal points spread across the screen instead of bulked up in the center make it much easier to get a crisp shot. Thanks for your report. I love my 80D. It’s completely reliable and built like a tank, great features, great screen, fast and accurate focusing and great stabilisation using it with my 18-135 and 10-18 lenses, nice to hold, good and well placed buttons. It was my first DSLR (I came after a long gap from a background of Canon SLRs) so it was a long learning curve gradually getting to grips with all the functions and to learn to use it effectively. I use it for both photo and video. The lack of 4K is not an issue for me, in fact I’m quite glad not to have it (!) as I’m sure I’d be using it a lot of the time ‘just in case’ but probably not for any good reasons at all and with all the cumbersome space and speed problems. A year ago I added a 100-400L lens and this brought the quality up to a whole new level again - what a fantastic combination this is! I am now wondering if I can justify also getting a really top notch fast wide-aperture 50 or 70mm lens. Can you tell I like my 80 D...?!

If you want to get into sports/wildlife photography on a budget, buy one. I have some reservations over the 80D's colour handling and metering so to me its not as good as the 7dmkii but I agree about the AF, its very good and I think understated in this video for low light, which will perform in near dark conditions. Handles Sigma zooms well too.

I have had a few of them. I buy, then sell. Buy then sell. I just keep coming back because they work. I just bought my fourth one. If you can get a good deal on one, I think it will do the job for most people. Kit lens and a nifty 50 and you are good. Add the sigma 18-35 and you are great. Need a little range? The 55-250 stm can be had for like 100 bucks.

I had upgraded from 1100D to 80D. Its with me from last 2 years and shot couple of short films on 18-135mm USM lens. Have done many dance and music Videos. Its the best camera for Pics & Video. Best at auto Focusing. I Love my 80D. :)

I am new in photography and video. I had a nikon 3200d but I wanted a camera to do both (photos and video). After a lot of hours in UA-cam I decided to buy Canon 80d 2 weeks ago. I can't wait 2-3 or 5-6 months for new model. So I bought 80d and I am very happy. For me it's an excellent choice for my budget (around 1000 euro).

Just got the 80d and I love it so far. Just trying to figure out what lenses if any I need besides the 18-135 kit lens which is great. Do you or does anyone know if you can control the shutter timing through the phone app? I want to take night time sky pictures and would like to know if I can use the app or if I should get a remote with a timer.

I've used my 80D for 2 years now, and I love it. I only wish it had GPS. When I post some of my travel photos it would be really great to be able to locate them on a map for the viewers. Geo Tagging is just too inconvenient for me. If its successor has GPS, that would probably be the only reason I would change.

I was talking to a Canon rep in my local camera store and I asked him about the 90D and he replied by saying that Canon has no plans to make a 90D and it is believed that the 80D will be the last one in that series as Canon are moving towards mirrored and not DSLR cameras

Crop factor on Canon APS-C is x1.6, so 50 mm gives you 80 mm on it ;). I bought 80D 2 years ago, I'm using it mostly with Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8, and I'm very happy.

rather than my a6300 and panasonic. this canon is for human.
    I miss it alot.

The kit lens you have (EF-S 18-135mm IS USM) is actually very good even if it wasn't a kit lens.
I've recently purchased the same kit. It's also my first DSLR experience and I'm loving it. So much to tweak and from what I've done as research it appears that there is second to none when it comes to the proper application of a touch screen. The Live View is just amazing. And I love the app to control your camera!
Currently looking for a second hand EF 100mm f/2.8 IS USM true macro lens. The new ones are quite pricey but a well tended lens will last a long time so buying second hand is definitely a great way to go.

    Great video!!
I bought the 80D right before I was headed home from Việt Nam in 2016. It was the newest technology camera by Canon. I left my T5I with my son, but he was also buying a new 70D from a store there. I ordered mine online so it would be here when I got back home. I had a Tamron 16-300mm lens at the time, since then I bought a Tamron 18-400mm lens and they work very well together. I slapped a Haze 2a filter on it to get almost any purple fringe out of the photo. My other lens is the Tamron SP45 f1.8. really nice lens, both are nice lenses. I would love to get the 90D now that it is out, 4K would be nice, but I have a video editor that will save to 4k so I can kind "cheat" hehe I think I will stick with the 80D for now. It is STILL an awesome camera!! ONLY thing I don't like is that Canon decided to stop allowing you to see the shutter count in any apps I have.
