  • How to make the quilt as you go hexagons. I've sewn them into a runner for my dining table and also finished the edges with some needle lace.
    The Hexiform is from Ashmead Designs. Here is the link to their website.

    This is why I love slow stitching, it is so peaceful and gives you time to relax and reflect on your ideas as you come along with a project to completion. It is wonderful!

    What a joy and a pleasure to watch a left handed stitcher! Your explanations and directions are quite clear always, but I so appreciate the opportunity to watch a fellow south paw! Ive never done needle lace and am eager to give it a try.
    Thanks also for the link for the hexiforms.

    How lovely. A great way to do hexes. About 40 years ago I started a paper piecing Hexie quilt. Never finished it but have been considering using the pieces in another way. Some lovely material in it from scraps from sewing. Memories of clothing I had.

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  11 місяців тому +2

      It's just the way I like to quilt. Using old clothes and all the memories attached to them. I know you can buy such amazing fabric these days. But they have amazing prices to match! And I just never could afford to buy them. So I went scrappy and quilted in the old sense of the way people used to do it. Using up old, worn out fabric, from wherever you could get it.

    Oh what fun you have shown us all. I just love Hexies too. I just bought a plastic pattern for the outside and the inside hexigon design. I just love using the old fabric and linens. I may have to make a little needle book, or something like a little just because stitching book with a cover from the hexies. I will have a think on this one. Your table cover looks amazing with all the different fabrics shining through. Thank you for another fun project.

    My first quilt was a hexi, which I backed. I started a hexi quilt as you go but not tried the hexiform. I was going to buy precut hexies but I do have templates so I just cut them at leisure, as I'm just going to take my time with it. Nice to do a bit of hand stitching. I've done a mini dolls house size in the past. Fiddly. I agree it is a nice project to do.

    Oh Marion your hexies are lovely. Easier than Japanese Folded Patchwork I did in a class a good 20 years ago! Admittedly the bags are so useful and been much admired over the years. I'm doing 1" hexies, 1.5" jewel shapes and others the old fashioned way but tacking and not using glue. I've never thought of doing a Needlelace edging. Fantastic. I've used ring sticks for making decorative circles and have an afficot and half acorns all made by a wood turner (I love Treen objects). Your videos are so inspiring thanks.

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  11 місяців тому

      I'll have to look that up Jean. It's not something I've heard of before... How lovely to have a properly made afficot. I've been keeping my eye open for one for years when I go around the thrift shops or boot sales. Maybe I'll just have to make one for myself instead. I actually make wooden spoons, so it's not without the bounds of possibility.....

      Hello Marion I have just found your lovely inspirational crafty site. I have been binge watching past videos. Thank you so much for making these inspirational tutorials. I have been sewing and crafty for many years and love to try to learn new crafts. I love simple mindful sewing and take little projects with me when I go out for a walk. I take a flask of coffee with me and enjoy sitting on a bench at my local seaside with either sewing or knitting. I do find it very therapeutic to sew especially if I can listen to a new book on Audible. You are such a creative talented lady it is a joy to watch and learn from you. I started making rosettes of epp hexagons when my husband started his cancer treatment, because they are so portable, but at some point I am going to have to stitch them all together. I have got about 200 rosettes at present and they just about cover the top of a double bed, so I will make a few more before I join them and decide whether to add wadding or just a backing.

      Regardless..... you did beautiful work, and I'll have to go back and watch the process. I've never seen it done. Thanks for your response. 🙂

      That was me too Brenda. I couldn't get past all that stitching in of papers only to have to take it all out again. These are just so great... No backing, no papers,... and you can cut the hexies yourself from batting if you want. The runner hasn't been off the table since!

    Marion what a great idea to do needle lace around the hexagons and it will be so much easier than having to make half hexagons to finish off the edge. I will do this with my hexagons I am stitching so thank you for that idea. Your runner is lovely and very person to you.

    Looking at this video, I finished my last hexie with the Laura Ashley fabric. I had to make 12 hexies more to make a round (hexicagon) table cloth about 25 inch I sew them together with a thicker thread, but I haven't enough. Must buy new thread, because "plum"is a difficult colour what I do not have in my own" little shop." 😁 I love your hexies with the embroderie vintage fabric. And the fabric of your new dress is so lovely.

    Marion, have you ever tried running your thread across a damp sponge to straighten a twisty thread? I've done this sometimes with cross stitch floss. I enjoyed watching this video, particularly the lacy edging. It looked like a lot of fun to do!

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  11 місяців тому +1

      That's because I never had a budget at all in the early days, when I was first married and had children. My family used to give me old clothes to cut up, and this was way before is was considered okay to upcycle. In fact , upcycle wasn't even a word! :) I always wanted to be able to buy Liberty fabrics, but it would have been impossible then, and now I just can't justify the expense. I think it's always helped my creativity to have to find another way to do what I wanted to do.

      😊 Totally with you on that one Joy! I haven't bought new clothes for years. And that includes shoes, coats, everything. I make my own underwear, and although I do buy new fabric to make myself something special, I quite often just buy thrift shop clothes in good fabric that is worth me cutting up. I think we're on the right path! 💕

      You can just cut ordinary wadding our instead. You will need two differing sizes of hexies. The font and the wadding will be the same size. The backing needs to be big enough to make a double hem around the front. They are very satisfying to make!
