Great video. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Looks like some amazing samples you found. Looking forward to your next video. Take care and be safe.
In some mines the gold can be attached to the pyrite and the copper viens the copper and ptrite is roasted down leaving gold in small traces its then purified to solid gold I would suggest keeping the specimens pyrite and copper species go for bucks lol
I've seen where they were looking for quartz and green when gold prospecting, maybe that they looked but not enough to mine for, either that or it was just a small amount and it's now gone. Daisy the path finder. Stay safe.
At the first gold mine in Ontario, the fellow was looking for copper and started a copper mine. He blasted about 30 yards from his original hole and fell into a cavern at the bottom and there he found gold. So copper and gold can certainly be associated. Iron too.
meMiner Just goes to show how it's just luck sometimes, you can search for the signs and follow the natural leads to your destination only to find nothing.
Or a bonanza. You never know until you try. One thing for sure, they days were finds are sparse help make one appreciate the days where the finds are great.
I worked at a mine where gold was seen microscopically within the pyrite cleavage planes. There was also free gold that was sometimes (but rarely) visible to the naked eye. I know they are expensive but assays will tell you what you are dealing with. You could make a composite of the best samples from an outcrop and send that for analysis to better cover the outcrop and save money. I would always turn the sample in the light. Pyrite would change in yellowness and brightness while gold would not and would stay yellow.
You living my brothers dream right now, being in a beautiful forest in Canada and just traipsing around looking for minerals with your puppers. Thanks for the video, sent it to him. Maybe someday =)
Hit that grey metal with a mapp gas torch... it could be galena (lead) it will melt pretty quick... platinum definitely won't... great videos series! I'm a big fan if the chig, good move on the colab😀
Nice video! You could take some more hard rock samples from there and send them to an assay lab to get definitie answers on the exact minerals, if you wanted too!
Oh, i assumed it was a abandoned claim. I guess someone has a claim worth testing, all that pyrite is a good indicator of gold!! That place looks similar to some of the places in B.C. Good luck with your gold mining Venture's!!!
Before I saw the unidentified silvery lump in that one piece I was thinking "maybe the gold was in the country rock as hornfels or skarn type deposit". Know if there's any granite nearby? The host rock does look a little skarn-y.
Very true. In the field, it worked fine on rice size gold nuggets. It is an indicator but not fully reliable on really small stuff. I used to have a Falcon and that was super sensitive to small stuff and sometimes I relied on it to tell me what material to pan.

It sure is a site that could use a detailed inspection. We were a bit rushed but it sure was interesting.
Encyclopedia of rocks you have a great eye. Makes me slow down and look closer👍🏼
Just look for unusual colour and shape. Too often the good stuff is dirty, so shape and sometimes weight are the best indicators.

I would crush all those samples to under 200 mesh and pan them out using JetDry or some other product to break the surface tension.

Tested my Garrett pinpointer. It will only register .3 of a gram AU and higher. Mostly I pick up ferris rocks and magnetite with it.
Did you increase sensitivity? I have found some really small flakes that were close to the pinpointer when checking crevices
checked it with weighed gold samples on every part of the probe.@@meMiner

If you find out whats the heavies are please let me know. I swear i saw a gold nugget in that pan. It dodnt have the crystilazation that pyrite does.
Muratic acid usually makes my pyrite silver
It must be pulling out the iron from it or getting a stain from some other part of the rock. Does it darken later?
Anyone, and they know who they are, should look at this video and admit pyrite can fool or cause hesitation in even the best eye.
Where at Greg...? I grew up in North Bay, went to Uni in TO though!

Have a question for you what happens when you use acid on sandstone rocks it has a geodon side is a good idea or bad idea
Don't know until you try. It depends upon what the sand is in the sandstone. If it is quartz, nothing will happen with muriatic

No, eastern Ontario
