Thanks for highlighting these rust prone areas and looking forward to you showing us as you attack and repair the said areas. Love watching your work and approach to it. Oh and I have a used, but non rusted bump cap that you could use; my bald head shows up head contact quite visibly
Watching these videos is like a morbid curiosity, I have mine booked in with you in January. While I know mine isn't absolute swiss cheese having worked on it quite a bit I can't tell you how glad I'll be once it's treated and undercoated.
You work on some of the rustiest cars. Is your rain salt water? Omg. Love your repair work, taking notes. I have an early production NA miata built in June of 89 and it looks new compared to that. I have 177,000 miles on the clock, but now it's off the road for a complete restore and engine rebuild. I'll be on the road soon. I hope. Mike from the USA, cheers!
I own a 2010 nc here in Western Australia, 60000 km . Even here with no salt & dry driving all the black paint was flaking off the underside & strut braces etc . I stripped everything out and had it all powder coated then soaked the whole underside & cavities with Fisholene , then a good coat of flexible black underbody coating. (Holden brand ) . Horrible job but will last ! Heartbreaking to see them rot like that , the owners should have the cars rustproofed from new .
I hate coming to these videos but I keep coming back. I don’t think mine is as bad as some of these but it’s definitely starting to surface rust underneath just before the arches… I’m a bit terrified what I’ll find under that carpet liner
Great video, would be really interested to know rough indication of price to have each of these items fixed. Looking to buy one of these and not sure how much of a showstopper the rust is!
Jesus ... Was looking at a nice black NC here in belgium but seeing this i'm afraid to even go look at it... I'm not a car guy only love certain models looks like the MX5 but looking to daily drive one , so can't afford it to go rusting on me
...enjoys video... tiredly drags behind off chair to go out and get in under the real thing that's sitting up in the air out in the workshop... I think I prefer watching you do it. Especially on a drizzly saturday morning. I'll probably hit my head about as often as you do too.. I usually do. :-) The joys..
Just drove 1.5hrs to see a mx5 with no rust. Covered in it. Finger went right through the sill. Wasted journey. How did they not rust proof these cars?
Its only because of poor quality build. Manufacturers used to galvanise and pump these areas full of wax but since buyers preferred gizmos and toys the cut back on the quality underneath and spent the money elsewhere.
I’ve got a 2009 Vw Polo. No rust worth talking about. Usually it’s not rust that kills cars these days, it’s other things like complicated electronics and safety systems going wrong and being too costly to fix and low emission zones.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I have a CRX with uni body rust near the Sills. So its the floor pan thats connected to inner sill then all tied in with the outer rocker. You kinda have to peel it back like an onion, and slowly patch sections at a time. What would you recommend?
@@johnadona3014 hi if you have a look at our "sticky tape rust repair" video we explain how to slowly peal one layer at a time to reveal the next and only cut back as far as needed :)
Really well engineered to stand a few Yorkshire winters! And people complain about Fiats...
Still a few years left yet :)
It's amazing the amount of damage rust can do to a car between MOTs
Good short clip to point out the rust prone areas of the Mk3 MX5.
Thank you Eddie :)

We are still deliberating if to turn this into a series. :) thank you for the offer haha

Excellent video
I'm going looking at an nc tomorrow so thanks to this video I know where to look
Torch in hand
Fingers crossed
Great video guys love what Yorkshire car restoration do amazing work ♥️
Thank you Dean :)
3:55 Have to say I’d be calling the breakers at that point! Are new NDs any better?
Excellent video guys and a little scary as well
As long as you inspect on a regular basis :)

Hi Mike best of luck with your project. Just enjoy it as the end result will be so rewarding :)

I have to say im begining to be a fan of the NC , looks way cleaner then the mk or mk2 :)
They do look nice modified :)
Good tips if your looking for an MX5 👍👍
Thank you.
Omg such a shame that the bodywork go so badly on such a great car keep up the good work Steve 👍👍(was looking at a ND hopefully these are better)🤔
Yer Lee, they look better but only time will tell :)

we only get the bad ones so it kinda paints the picture worst than it is :)

Well it’s made me check mine and find some tin worm I need to take care of, where in Yorkshire are you?

I was screaming like Donald duck when I had that as an apprentice at 0:06, first and definitely not the last! 😏😏😆
yes i regularly bump my head haha
Unusual for cars built after the year 2000 to rot so badly. My wife's got an old 54 plate Clio and it's got no rot at all. And we live on the coast
Not Mazdas :) is you watch our other vids you will see them as late as 2008 also rotting :)

The last one did smart :)
What’s the best treatment to use
Hi, do the facelift versions suffer from the same rust issues?
Hi Aaron Unfortunately yes.
F**k i felt those knocks to the head from here :) been there so many times
There were a few I didn’t show as well 😁
How much would it cost to repair all this rust?
Surprised to see a 2006 Mazda with that much rot. Is this common or is this an unusually bad example?
It’s not unusual.
But the wing mirrors are usually pretty ok regarding corrosion 😂

have you every had a car and said Ee Ba Gum thats too far gone ? or do you try and save the lot ?
We have just had one in atm that we have had to let go to the scrap pile in the sky and we are going to make a quick Saturday vid of it very soon :)
So glad I don't live in England, nothing but rusty cars, and the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😂
Its only because of poor quality build. Manufacturers used to galvanise and pump these areas full of wax but since buyers preferred gizmos and toys the cut back on the quality underneath and spent the money elsewhere.
Totally agree ! Mazda are the worst at rustproofing . See my comment. Simon

It could be worse you could be in the USA
@alanadair2367 or no guns allowed England, we have have guns, and no rust miatas, lol.
👍✌️
👍
thank you for the video - this one looks terrible
Why is it funny even it's painfull?
I don’t know Leo. It’s my normal reaction to pain haha
It's basic psychology that kicks in.. Study yourself but basically it's coping mechanism
Cut out the music go through each area and show us where to underseal / rust prevent access points for wax oil spray.
We have that video planned :)
😢
Yer it’s a bad one.
See this is what comes of taking your MX5 out when it’s raining. Rookie error.
Raining or salt from winter? That is soo bad. Does Yorkshire get a lot of snow? Looks like is in the salty ocean!
👍:-)
Thank you Tom :)
Blue dream ?....no Rust Miata NC......
Or nightmare 😂
looks like someone just tried to paint over the rust to cover it up lol
Yes we see it a lot :)
