Beautiful. You could have just slapped a patch on, no one would know... But you cut right back and remade all the layers. Impressive.
Thank you Matt :)
Craftsmanship. So enjoyable to watch.
Thank you Charlie :)
Excellent video was thinking of buying a MX5 as a second car … not anymore!
We get all the rusty ones. There are millions more clean ones :)
Great job. Watched it entirely and then went back to the start and watched it again.
Haha thank you :)
Brilliant job Steve. Enjoyed the video, really interesting to see what you do and the meticulous attention you give to it. You know exactly what to do. You've kept our car on the road for years and I recommend you to any MX5 driver.
Thank you Michael :)
Brilliant video as usual guys, my wife sat watching it with me and was amazed at the work you do - her dad was a marine engineer so something must have rubbed off along the way!
Thank you both for your support :)
No rust can resist YCR, even very well hidden. So many lace layers to discover.
Thank you Leo 👍
Amazing how many layers make up those floors. Love the close up shots of the welding technique.
Thank you Stu :)
Great job as always
Thank you :)
Proper job as ever. I'll get my tired '89 Eunos to you one of these days!
Haha thank you bazer :)
A joy to watch...as always
Thank you Thomas :)
Nice work! Never knew these cars rusted this much!
They do have rust issues :)
Another great job 👍
Thank you Paul :)
Great tutorial video, Sir.
Thank you.
I find your videos hypnotic, please keep them coming. I am curious though, in this video you weld and outer plate over an inner plate (sorry for the non-technical language) with just a quick spray of primer on the back of the outer and outside of the inner. Does that provide a long-lasting repair? I'm assuming it must otherwise you wouldn't be doing it but these cars do have a habit of rusting from the inside out, how does that primer-to-primer sandwich work from a rust-protection perspective?
Yes it lasts as we always Waxoil and protect afterwards :)
Love watching your videos keep up the fantastic work you do 👍👍
Thank you :) we will as the support from our viewers is what makes it all worth while :)
Great work as always Steve,as long as there’s Mx5’s you will always be in work 😂😂👍
Thank you Lee :)
Nice work👍
Thank you :)
As Matt below. Impressive.
thank you Steve :)
MIATA HIDDEN RUST? This video really had me worried, until I saw that you were talking about a MK2. Thank GOD the MK1 Miata doesn’t suffer with the same problem.
They do suffer from similar rusting!!!!!
I have now started to work out where you are going to drill spot weld holes, where you are going to use the stretcher / shrinker and where you are going to cut slits in the bended edges in the formed steel work to form around curves. Thank you so much for the knowledge. As always a question.
In the early clips say a year or so ago, you would fab, in places rust encapsulate and in certain cases prime the outer skins them stonechip. In this case you have primed and stone chipped, do you always prime the outer surface and stone chip
Hi Eddie. Glad you are following the videos well and have learned the process and where to bend, cut and form :)
We almost always prime then stone guard them but sometimes primer isn’t always needed specially if an epoxy layer has been applied like miperox , or if the stoneguard is anything like upol raptor or similar :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration Thanks, that explains things clearly!
Hi , what gauge metal are you using for this repair, thanks.
For sections like this , we use 1.4mm :)
That's why you should linoguard the underside. Keeps it like new.
as i always tell people :)
Hi love your work , cN you please tell us what air finger file you use please . I am sure l am not the only person that would like to know what equipment you use .
Hi Colin. We do have a video out showing the tools we use here -> ua-cam.com/video/Hipv2c8wYn4/v-deo.html
The belt sander we use are sealey premier and we have two different sizes. 20mm and 10mm. Hope this helps :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration hi thank yoy for your reply , new to watching your channel . I have only this aftetnoon found the video you mentioned, Thank you so much and please keep posting and yes l have subscribed.
hi can i ask? what kind of spray do you use, how do you spray before welding. thanks for the answer otherwise, as always, nice work
Hi :) it’s weld through primer :)
Ok thanks
Why do you weld through primer? Is That ok? Is it better to prevent rust?
PS: great video!
Nope it's not better than epoxy primer but it's better than nothing and you can weld through it. If epoxy is used you can't weld through it. Inside still needs protecting with Waxoil or similar after the repair is completed.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration thank you so much! Your videos are giving me the knowledge and courage to fix my E36 rust! I already subscribed 😆
You always have job repair old Mazda 😊
Thankfully :)
what is the average cost of a repair like this? great video!
What brand primer is that?
It's just a generic 2k primer :)
These MX5s look to rot worse than 1960s Vauxhalls.
They do have rust issues :)
Do you recommend sealing everything up with a epoxy primer? then undercoating it?
Yes there are many ways of finishing the repaired sections :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration Do you recommend lap welding or T welding the floor to the inner sill rocker?
Im going to get my quarter panel repaired as it has a big dent in it. So they will do some repair but i want to do the majority my self. What do you think Yorkshire
?
@@johnadona3014 yes there are several correct ways not just one :) epoxy then a stoneguard is good :)
