Ncie reaction. For all my life (67y old Dutch bloke) I am a fan of Pink Floyd and have see them several times. A song I always loved and is on my all time playlist. Nightwish did not cover this one, this is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to a exceptional band. Nightwish, by the way, I only started following after seeing Floor Jansen participating in Beste Zangers. Nightwish and Floor now belong to my category of exceptional bands/musicians (Queen/Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, Santana, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, U2, Cranberries, The Cure). And seen them all in my younger years, and many more. And later on got to know Sabaton, Ayreon, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Kamelot, Toehider, Avantasia. All because of me liking Floor and Nightwish.
Marko Hietala, world class musician! We were so lucky to have had him in Nightwish as long as we did. I wish him well in whatever he decides to do in future. ❤
Hi lovely Couple. This an absolutely stunning tribute by Nightwish to Pink Floyd. Even despite an awful migraine Jukka is still capable of bashing the drums. Great vocals by Marco and some of Empuu's finest guitar licks. LOVE IT.
It's not just a cover, it's a tribute and also completely different from the original in terms of vibe. Much darker and more powerful. In my opinion way much better than the original. So yes you give a tribute to the people who are important to you. Gilmore himself said at the time that Nightwish's version of this song is the best Pink Floyd cover ever.
Better than the original? Christ that’s just beyond BULL💩 Just beyond. Wtf. No sorry. This is so not better than Floyd’s original…..it’s a masterpiece of art.
Pink Floyd has their own army of fans that has built up over the last 60 years or so. Their sound is so mellow and soothing on a song like this. So, when you say a Pink Floyd cover you immediately jump back and say "oh no", no one sounds like Pink Floyd. So, what did Nightwish do? They did this Pink Floyd song as a tribute. They didn't try to reproduce the Pink Floyd sound, they covered the song using their Nightwish style and sound. And I think most Nightwish and Pink Floyd fans will say it turned out excellent.
So glad you finally got to this one...very emotional vocal from Marko! Back in the days of Tarja, the band would throw a cover in the set to accommodate her wardrobe changes. They've covered Megadeath, WASP, many other artists. This was an history-making performance tho!
More of a tribute than a straight cover, David Gilmour loved it too. 2005 Helsinki (End of an Era) show, same as the Phantom of the Opera and Wishmaster videos you did. It is a bit different, possibly because it was the last show of a long tour, and the last show with Tarja. She was offstage for a wardrobe change during this song.
Having been a Nightwish fan for over 12 years I can say that this song is a perfect song for them to cover. It's all about the hatred of having to grow into adulthood and embracing displeasing practices in order to secure your adulthood, such as selling yourself to get money, or betraying loved ones to gain position. The whole message of Nightwish has always been a rage against having to grow up and move into the real world and the challenges and sadness it brings.
I am a massive Pink Floyd fan, and fell in love with Nightwish's rendition when I discovered them about 18 months ago. The best tribute to Pink Floyd I've ever heard. It kicks ass so damn hard. By the way, this isn't your first Nightwish cover.... you did Phantom of the Opera. If you're looking for another Nightwish cover try "Walking in the Air" (live, Wishes to Eternity tour). This is a cover of the main song from the British animated short film "The Snowman", and Tarja sings lead on that one. It's absolutely beautiful!!! Notably, for that video you'll see that Marco isn't even in the band at this point. Instead it's original bassist Sammy Vanska.
Hi Both - I think the emotion emanating from the performance is a precursor to the fact that their first singer Tarja was about be handed the infamous letter of her dismissal after this show. I think that was weighing heavily on the boys.
Dominika, when you said "sometimes a song gripps you by the gut" you expressed exactly how I feel about this song. The lyrics are about the joy of childhood is disappearing when one ages. The adulthood is burdened by all sorts of aspirations and the childhood dreams are taken away. For me this might apply to the situation NW were in as the boys were going to fire Tarja after this concert. They blamed her husband for the change in her, they were very annoyed with it. Their dream was shattered and I think that that may have helped Marko to put all their emotions into the song. I get chills everytime I hear it
The context for this makes the performance (and the meaning of this particular song) way more powerful than it is on its own. You can see the sobriety in their eyes as they know Tarja will be dismissed right after the show, which ultimately results in The Poet and the Pendulum. The emotion is now palpable with every word.
This is a Tribute to Pink Floyd, its more heavy than the original song and Marko is a great singer , Emppu solo's Jukka on drums and Tuomas on the keys...Wauw I like this version more, its Magic ❤your nightwish reactions, thank you
"When humanity loses hope, you'll find it in music." That was so beautiful and true. This music makes your soul fly. Thank you both for your beautiful reaction. ❤
They call this a tribute more than a cover, given the event that followed this show you could say they had high hopes going forward. They also did Over the Hills and Far Away.
This song, I mean this version and performance, has had such a special place in my heart since the first time I saw and heard it. You are so right about the band delivering such strong emotions with the song. I've had many cleansing cries listening to it and other times I just have shivers down my spine. Powerful performance. Besides Marko's voice, I really really really love Emppu's solos - especially the second one is pure gold. ❤️
Nice reaction guys thanks! What I like the most about this one is that the basic 4-guy band (drums, bass, guitar & keyboards) were more than enough to deliver this masterpiece rendition of an already great song. Nightwish made it it's own and today is one of my favorites! Thanks again!
Well now you know why this has been requested so much. The ultimate Marco. This tribute has more energy and emotion than the original and I'm a Floyd fan of 45 years. Pink Floyd linked this on their website as a remarkable version.
I loved your heartfelt reaction to this song. I listen to Nightwish every night, and I often make this the last song before bed. Marko's vocals are so powerful and poignant. He feels every note he sings. And I love the solid support all of them give each other. They always play totally for the benefit of the music, nobody having to be the diva, but it seems there's extra emotional support for each other here, perhaps because they know that after the concert they'll be telling Tarja it's her last one with them.
The context for this makes the performance (and the meaning of this particular song) way more powerful than it is on its own. You can see the sobriety in their eyes as they know Tarja will be dismissed right after the show, which ultimately results in The Poet and the Pendulum. The emotion is now palpable with every word.

Thanks guys!❤ Beautiful reaction and appreciation of a classic remade into a MONSTER! This show was the last one of the tour AND the last show with Tarja. In this moment, the band knew that Tarja would be fired after the show wrapped. You can see the strain on their faces and feel it in the performance. The emotional component of this exquisite tribute is immeasurable but it is earthshaking. 'Covering' a Pink Floyd song is always a risky endeavor, but if you have this lineup to make the effort, you can expect something special. Twice in my life I've been profoundly effected by a band making that attempt. Twice I found out that David Gilmore found those efforts to his satisfaction. This song by Nightwish and when Gilmore invited The Australian Pink Floyd band to play at his 50th birthday party. Both times I had MAJOR reservations about anyone trying to imitate one of the premier bands OF ALL TIME. I sat at The Australian Pink Floyd Show (TAPFS) with my arms folded across my chest. I left the show CHANGED. I had held Floyd in such high esteem and believed them to be above imitation. I was actually happy to have been proven wrong. After seeing them on their last tour in support of The Division Bell in 94, I thought I would never get to see Floyd in concert again. The next best thing available is TAPFS and I highly recommend checking them out. In person if you can, but most certainly their recordings if you can't. Ciao
This was the concert after wich they handed Tarja her letter of resignation, wich she did not know of; they were all strained, Jukka had a terrible headache, in the beginning of the song you can see jukka bow over his drums and hold his head; Tuomas nodds to Emppu to go to Jukka, wich he does later on, to ask if Jukka is allright, you can really see the craftmanship of Emppu playing the guitar in this peace and of course of Marco singing.
Jukka in such pain he is biting his drumsticks when he is not playing. Emppu checking on Jukka and jumping down from the elevated drum stand. This whole song is remarkable.
This is not cover it is a Tribute to PF and they really put all in with feelings and nail this heavier version...NW style. Marco naturally is so awesome with his voice but they all shine bright here equally. Marching drums included by Jukka not to forget fantastic guitar work by Emppu and Tuomas fitting the chiming bells equally as perfection.
I especially wanted to hear Emppu on the guitar in this song. After hearing Phantom of the Opera where he erupted at the end I new he'd be great on this and he was! Great reaction video!
THANK YOU! I love this tribute to Pink Floyd!!! I can't believe I missed this 9 days ago! Better late than never, hey?.... Marko used to sing a lot of covers in the early days, one per show, to give the singer (Tarja) a rest. There are videos of those! Jukka (the drummer) had a migraine during this concert!!!! Emppu REALLY nailed the guitar solos in this! David Gilmour approves!!!! They were all stressed because they knew it was Tarja's last show with them and they had had such high hopes.............. Good job! Yes, EPIC!!! p.s. I turned a life-long Pink Floyd fan into a Nightwish fan with this song. He made me play it to him 3 times he loved it that much!
Very nice reaction. It's more of a tribute than a cover. What adds a big sad layer to this evening is that it's Tarja's last concert. All the members of the group (except Tarja) knew that after this concert, Tarja would be fired.
What a tribute from Nightwish to this legendary song 🤩. Marko is a living legend !!!!! Songs covered by Nightwish:
Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber cover) Symphony of Destruction (Megadeth cover) Elvenjig ([traditional] cover) Finlandia (Jean Sibelius cover) High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne cover) The Mug of Brown Ale ([traditional] cover) We're Not Gonna Take It (Twisted Sister cover) Wild Child (W.A.S.P. cover) Stone People (John Two‐Hawks cover) Alone (i‐Ten cover) Ace of Spades (Motörhead cover) Don't Talk to Strangers (Dio cover) Locomotive Breath (Jethro Tull cover) Money (Pink Floyd cover) Rock Around the Clock (Sonny Dae and His Knights cover) Show Me How to Die (Battle Beast cover) Wonderful Life (Black cover) NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
This isn't a cover. It's a tribute. Even the lighting crew paying homage. Nightwish never just goes through the motions. Even if one of them in dealing with something. They all play from the heart.
Hello you two!!😀I hope your move from Norfolk to rural Romania has been as wonderful as you both dreamt it would be? This is a fantastic tribute to another special band, and some have said that it is on a par with the original. You reacted to 'Phantom of The Opera' with Tarja which of course was written by (Sir) Andrew Lloyd Webber. So in fact, you have seen the band perform another artist's work before. Big hug from England x
NW "Disturbed" the hell out of this PF tribute, IMO. I was dismissive of HH/Division Bell when it dropped originally but this incredible version is impossible to dismiss. Cheers!
You are right guys were sad and it shows everyones faces. Normally They are much more relaxed on the stage. But in this show they havent not. Tarja was changing clothes and this was the song of the moment. Guys were sad because after this show they would give Tarja the infamous break up letter. Thx to you two for this reaction 💗🤩🥰 , it was very good.
I'm so pleased you feel the same way as not just me but many of us who recognise the importance of this song not just in terms of musical excellence but also showing such a solidarity of spirit within one song where they all gelled together absolutely perfectly - if they had all elevated off the floor together I wouldn't have been surprised - this tribute to Pink Floyd is THAT memorable and in such an impactful concert too where they really DID need to be together and supportive as I believe at the end of this concert they gave Tarja the letter sacking her from the band - which would've been such a gut wrenchingly difficult decision. Take good care of yourselves 😃
...if you liked Marko here, you very likely would love his solo music and his singing with his old band Tarot too. Eg. their Heavy Metal on Ice consert song "Guardian Angel" and "Things that crawl at night" are epic. As are ofcourse the "Tides" 🤗
This song was performed while Tarja was changing clothes and highlights the high hopes NW had for the future. Realize that at the end of this concert they are going to give Tarja the letter of resignation. So they very tense. Both looked back on the great time with her, but also the difficulties of being dependent on a singer who, partly because of her husband, was busy with other things than NW. So they simultaneously looked forward to the future without stress at her waning commitment.
This is rough, beautiful emotions. Much better than the original. The whole band, the killing drumming of Yuka. My God! Nightwish with Marco did also covers of: Megadeth, symphony of destruction 🤘🏻🤘🏻 I heard the original of Pinck Floyd last Friday, But this cover is ten times better. And not a cover, but a tribute. In my humble opinion 😎
Yeah Reactors 👍🏼 this is what happens when real musicians like Jukka.Tuomas.Marko.Emppu. Playing their instruments and sing in 110%.they are so damn good so it almost been a new song from Pink Floyd ❤️👍🏻🎸 THX for a wonderful reaction on Nightwish ❤️🇸🇪❤️🇸🇪❤️🇸🇪❤️ the bad in here is that the migren that Jukka feel in here hi has pain when hi drumms in here in this video 👎👎👎
There are some other covers from Nightwish: Walking in the air (live with Tarja) - cover from Snowman & Symphony of Destruction (live from Bucharest) - a cover of Megadeth…
Dear Mrs. MerchantOfAlba, in this song I see your reserved but approving smile come to the front and dominate the video. I also come from a Pink Floyd background, and Marco's vocals were right there, they had the effect of Gilmour singing but done quite differently. And Emppu knows perhaps better than anybody not to compete with Gilmour but to make the song his own. Two thumbs up, and my big toes for good measure!😃
Nightwish also made a cover of Gary Moor's song Over the hills and far away and a song for the snowman fairy tale - Walking in the air. I recommend listening to this song Walking in the air performed by Jarkko Ahola (he sings with Marco in the band Northern kings)
No disrespect to Pink Floyd, but this tribute is better than the original. Marko absolutely kills it, and Tuomas composition is dead on. As another commenter pointed out, Jukka was suffering from migraines during the concert, but still put on a masterclass in drumming. And Emppu was, as always, flawless in his guitar work.
In my opinon this is not a Cover. It is is a Tribute from a awesome Band to another awesome Band. Amazing 🤘 i mean, after this Show they fired Tarja . Nobody smiles (Emppus face)
Floor is the closest thing to a superhuman I know, and I'm probably obsessed, but I dont miss her at all in this performace (or any female vocal), it'all Marko in his glory. just wait for Emppu and Jukka to go nuts at some point lol. Tuomas' head nudges are telling too. All appreciation and emotion here. So passionate
Think this is your second nightwish cover after the phantom of the opera. Other great covers they did are walking in the air and also over the hills and far away, both from the Tarja era.
I'm curious, i have a question for the nightwish's fans. Maybe someone has an answer. Yucca is seen stretching out behind his drums. For you, does he really stretch to avoid cramps? Does he mute his drums? Or does he put himself in a position where he has less headache? You can feel that everyone is emotionally invested in this song. First of all, it's a nice tribute from music lovers for great musicians. Oh God, I would have liked to know how to play like that, but I have no talent in music... only in drawing.
Dominika, You say you don’t care for Pink Floyd, yet you find this song stunning. Might I suggest you watch the live performance of this BY Pink Floyd? Perhaps you will discover that your taste has changed. Floyd created some of the most magnificent music of the last 50 years. It would be a shame to miss these epic performances. If yo watch nothing else, try two songs from their Pulse tour concert: Comfortably Numb and Sorrow. The guitar solo in Comfortably Numb is considered one of the finest, most emotive and moving rock guitar solos in history.
Nightwish have done some more covers: Over the Hills and Far Away - ua-cam.com/video/CwED4C5FJuo/v-deo.html Walking in the Air - ua-cam.com/video/9icKP1b44TA/v-deo.html And you have probably seen the Phantom of the Opera - ua-cam.com/video/tL25rbnvM4o/v-deo.html
I have to admit, I have not watched a Nightwish live clip since Marco left. I don't want to hear a compromised version of songs I love so much. Maybe when they have a new record out without Marco I'll watch live stuff again.
🤩👍💥💯 The "Heavier" version of this classic works 'like a clock'... Thinking you've probably did a reaction to their cover of Gary Moore's "Over the Hills and Far Away" (???) Another neat cover by them is one what fits like a glove to this time of the year is: "Walking in the Air" from the short animation called "Snowman" 🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
It's more of a tribute to Pink Floyd, about how the members feelings here, everyone know here that Tarja is going to be fired, and that gives this song an ever more meaning...
Hi Guys Jukka had a Migraine because of his bad case of Insomnia. MARKO CAN SANG. You guys should react to his band Tarot. I think you should react to Wings of Darkness from 1986. Marco would have been 20 yrs old and also they have a 25th Anniversary video
Ncie reaction.

Yes the migraine was a myth, but I believe all members of the band had flu during this performance.

NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Emppu the guitar wizard, once more Rules 🤘🤘🤘
Cheers!
Also worth checking out: Delain Feat. Marko Hietala: "The Gathering" and "Nothing Left".
Hey guys, one of my favorites. Soooo good❣️
You are right, this lifts you up.
This was a wonderful tribute! Great reaction! Check out the lyrics. Very moving
Take good care of yourselves 😃
thanks
As always, an uplifting and emotional reaction from you both - wonderful stuff, thankyou 🤘
Marko is superb and what a guitar solos Empu delivers 🙂
Well, this is a fine tribute, or what? ⛄👍
What a band, they even better than Pinck floyd was playing their own song. Emotions into your bones!!
...if you liked Marko here, you very likely would love his solo music and his singing with his old band Tarot too. Eg. their Heavy Metal on Ice consert song "Guardian Angel" and "Things that crawl at night" are epic. As are ofcourse the "Tides" 🤗
You seem as such a lovely couple, I had to subscribe. And of course, I love Marko, Nightwish is the best. And Sabaton to.
Nightwish has also made a fantastic cover track of The Phantom of the Opera. It's from the same concert :-)
Empuu - so nice to hear a solo from him ...
Another NW cover worth checking out is "Phantom of the Opera" at the same concert at Hartwall Arena.
This is rough, beautiful emotions.
Much better than the original.
The whole band, the killing drumming of Yuka. My God!
Nightwish with Marco did also covers of:
Megadeth, symphony of destruction 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I heard the original of Pinck Floyd last Friday,
But this cover is ten times better.
Love this one from that era. Also because it does not include Tarja.😋🤗❤️🇧🇻
HOW DAREST THOU COMMIT SUCH BLASPHEMY! 😱
🤣
They covered Gary Moore's song Over the hills and far away too, the same show
If you note that the members of the band looked serious, it was because they knew that after the show they would be firing Tarija
There are some other covers from Nightwish: Walking in the air (live with Tarja) - cover from Snowman & Symphony of Destruction (live from Bucharest) - a cover of Megadeth…
This would be your second reaction to a Nightwish cover. You already reacted to Over The Hills And Far Away, a Gary Moore song :)
You at least must admit that the source material was exceptional.
I can't help but think they chose to play this tribute knowing what was going to happen after the concert.
Cześć, great reaction, beautiful song
Please check another cover by Nightwish "walking in the air" with Tarja
All the best 👋
Hey!
Great cover! But for me, the "Symphony of destruction" cover by Nightwish is even better. ☺️
He's fantastic isn't he what a loss, but all the best Marko, I also think it showcased Empus guitar playing as well.
This is their tribute to Pink Floyd's music.
Another Cover they did is, "over the hills and far away" (with Tarja) can't remember who wrote the song.
if you see the lyrics - is a song for all of us - after reaching a certain age :)
Best Cover Tribute of Pink Floyd: "Astronomy Domine" by VOIVOD... this, second, maybe.
Nightwish have done some more covers:
Over the Hills and Far Away - ua-cam.com/video/CwED4C5FJuo/v-deo.html
Walking in the Air - ua-cam.com/video/9icKP1b44TA/v-deo.html
And you have probably seen the Phantom of the Opera - ua-cam.com/video/tL25rbnvM4o/v-deo.html
I have to admit, I have not watched a Nightwish live clip since Marco left. I don't want to hear a compromised version of songs I love so much.
Maybe when they have a new record out without Marco I'll watch live stuff again.
🤩👍💥💯
The "Heavier" version of this classic works 'like a clock'...
Thinking you've probably did a reaction to their cover of Gary Moore's "Over the Hills and Far Away" (???)
Another neat cover by them is one what fits like a glove to this time of the year is:
"Walking in the Air" from the short animation called "Snowman"
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
I much prefer this angstier version to the more melancholic one of Pink Floyd.
It's more of a tribute to Pink Floyd, about how the members feelings here, everyone know here that Tarja is going to be fired, and that gives this song an ever more meaning...
another cover is over the hills and far away and of course phantom of the opera and a megadeath cover
What a fantastic tribute to Pink Floyd. This is definitely a tribute, not a cover.
Have you listened Marco with Dutch band Delain?
Like this version better Marco a badass this is a good one
Nightwish has also done a cover of Finlands national anthem, Finlandia by Jean Sibeliurs. Listen to that too.
Actually Finlandia isn’t our national anthem. Unfortunately. It’s ”Maamme”.
Please consider reacting to nightwish's slaying the dreamer from buenos aires 🤟🏻
Well, Over The Hills And Faraway is also cover song, so you have done Nightwish cover before.
Hi Guys Jukka had a Migraine because of his bad case of Insomnia. MARKO CAN SANG. You guys should react to his band Tarot. I think you should react to Wings of Darkness from 1986. Marco would have been 20 yrs old and also they have a 25th Anniversary video
