Appreciate the opportunity to come onto the Nero Show. As mentioned at the end, you boys have a great dynamic that’s producing some unique content for us UA-cam/podcast frothers. So keep it up! Btw - how did my fat head get over 90mins !? 😂
Good talk. And I couldn't agree more about discs. From personal experience, discs rule on steep, wet descents. And, s Durian Rider knows, there are plenty of those in Southeast Asia during the summer.
Did you some how fall asleep during this video or maybe your brain dead ?, Cam has not sold out to anyone mate in fact the deal that BMC offered Cam is costing him money not making him any money get it.
Guys, I'm on the wrong side of 60 and not very fit, but with regard to the nutrition comments, I followed Jesse's nutrition advice from a while back, contacted superior nutrition, and now have the right amount of carbs in my bottles and as a result, I'm riding stronger start to finish on my regular 60km rides and more to the point feeling so much better when the rides over. So even if, like me, you're not a "real cyclist", nutrition on the bike makes a massive difference.
Gentlemen, great content. In six years of using UA-cam, yours is the only content I actively follow; like a new movie or an addictive TV show. I trust the authenticity and enjoy the material. Cheers!
Really interesting discussion! A very new side of Cam Nicholls I don't see on his channel. The in depth discussion seems much more in line with Cam's strengths. Great dynamic between you three!
Chris, your comments on funding of road v track are spot on. I have had this conversation directly with CA about a rider I was coaching. CA's advice for this young road rider was to get into a track programme because funding and support is based on results. And results on the track are far more predictable and comparable. They view road racing as a lottery. The best pathway for a young aussie who wants to go to Europe as a road rider is to become a track endurance rider.
So, who's the star in this?? Has Cam found his moment in the spotlight on the world renowned Nero podcast...or has Nero finally hit the jackpot, and become a destination podcast for celebrity UA-camrs??? 😄😄 Going to set some time aside tonight and enjoy this, should be a hoot! 👍
totally agree with Chris, these brands still don't seem to understand the reach that UA-camrs have. Cam will sell way more BMC's than anyone racing for Tudor or AG2R thats just how it is now. Guarantee Francis and Safa have sold more Scott's than DSM.
Same for Katie and her Ribble. Although, unfortunately some of the value would be lost if it was known they were being paid what they were worth to ride these bikes.
Fiberglass Steerer convo.. So, I have built concrete countertops and we used fiberglass for re-enforcement. What we found it the fiber glass added more tensile strength but also allowed flex. And, lastly it allowed use to spray countertops and make them thinner. We could put a 300 lb person standing in the middle of a 8 ft length and they could jump and the counter would flex without cracking. So, fiberglass can be useful without the stiffness.. Just MHO.. Great content all.
pleeease get Luke/Trace Velo on the show! It'd be so nice to see him in the chat, with his channel trajectory, the chinese components, and especially the last move of turning 100% youtuber.
The analogy for how a big bike feels is literally spot on. I’ve never thought there could be a way to explain it but that’s completely it. It feels like you’re in it
What makes you feel slow on an aero bike at >5% gradient though? Sureley it can't be 300g frameset weight? Don't get me wrong I love climbing on light bikes but I think it's just in my head. Uphill I don't feel if my bottles are empty or full but then I believe that I can feel if I am on an aero bike or not which doesn't really make sense if I'm honest to myself...
Another absolutely brilliant episode with guests. Well done guys. My two fav UA-cam cycling channels in one! My excitement level were peaking when I saw this come up on the feed! 👏👏👏
Chris and Jessie, it would be good to see you guys get the manufacturer’s/ advertising perspective. You guys love to say you don’t want to sell out, you want freedom to say anything etc… but you expect them to pay you a lot for nothing specific? Look at what Lance does on the move. It’s annoying to listen to the ads but he knows the game. If you want to get paid, you gotta play the game. Best option is get sponsors who’s products you really love. If you want to be part of the marketing machine you really have to love the products.
@camnicholls overall top bloke down to earth genuine guy. Been very helpful and available to me anytime I've had a question on my bike. Deserves all the blessings that come his way!🙏
Would love to see a Live event Podcast a the TDU next year with Chris and Jessie talking to Cam, GP Lama, Durianrider etc and a bunch of other UA-camrs and guest Pros who are also there for the race. Somewhere like the Rapha Clubhouse would be a good location to host if you still have connections.
Fibreglass in the steerer is more expensive to produce, as it’s a longer process. Fibreglass is easier to ream to size, and prevents galvanic corrosion from the expander plug. Putting a layer of glass under the bottle cage bosses and threaded nut inserts also prevents corrosion. Finally the integrity of the steerer is down to the resin, not the fibres whether carbon or glass…
Obviously this is an older video at this point, but a fiberglass layer in the steer tube could be made to prevent galvanic corrosion between aluminum expanse plugs and the carbon steerer. You’ll also commonly see a bit of fiberglass on downturns and seat tubes for that reason where the rivnuts are inserted for bottle cages. Both the headset/bottle cages are both areas prone to exposure to liquids/electrolyte (water/sodium/sweat)
A really worthwhile video so many cycling videos are watched with zero content but this was so worth while i agree with you Chris about Cam and BMC its time the company realized the true value of Cam and the RCA as a influencer they are in the top two" Fact" loved the video guys waiting for your next one.
This kind of frame discussion from Cam is better than almost all the bike reviews ive seen recently. A decent frame review needs to be expressed in comparison to numerous other frames, and when it's done with good knowledge, it can be as short as 3 sentences wgioe being more useful than long diatribes from other reviewers The two most common sources of bike reviews fail miserably at this. 1 - bike pop culture channels that do a lot of bike reviews basically just say "yeah, its good" about every single frame, but actually they spend most of the review regurgitating the marketing material for that bike. 2- And at the other end are people who review very few bikes and usually gush about it thr bike they are reviewing - which is simply the bike the recently decided to purchase for long term use. So they say its good, but, compared to what? Likely just the previous bike they owned. .
Great content! Cam is so much funnier outside his own videos. I love that you know that it's only UA-cam-videos. Cam regretting mistakes really makes him human.
Glad you enjoyed the show. We really enjoy having the fellow YTers on, giving them a chance to talk about subjects outside their 'bubble'. Thanks again.
Absolutely will never get tired of the honesty on this channel. @Cam, thanks for coming on with the guys on this episode. I had a ton of questions answered!
In the past 20 years I have raced many well known bikes and I have experienced a number of Carbon frames that were suspect. While racing I cracked the right side rear chain stay of a frame. While training in the mountains I cracked the carbon bottom bracket shell of a very well known pro tour team frame. My point is, every carbon frame can crack or fracture when you put out high wattages. Carbon frames were not designed to last more than 1 race season for the Pro Tour racers. Not saying that the average cyclist can't get many, many years out of their frames. But there is a reason every team gets new frames throughout the race season. Started watching your channel a month ago. I enjoy your views on cycling in Australia.
Very good point by Jesse at minute 40..content on things like SL7 and BMC Teammachine recall, and recent Madone Seat tube fiasco would be a great insight for us as users, and serve as wake up call to the industry to improve their safety and quality standard instead of focusing on marketing jargon like weight, aero, watt saving, etc while increasing the price indefinitely.
Great content. Agree with Chris on improving road racing for those cyclists without "turning pro" goals. Like turning back the clock to road racing in the 90's, when local teams actually held races and worked (Marshalled) the races before and after their race. 😀
From Tracevelo's latest post: "So Elves dropped me an email regarding the use of fiberglass in their carbon steerers, seems to be for 2 main reasons: 1. Fibreglass is easier to ream out when sizing the inside of the steerer tube 2. Prevents galvanic corrosion between carbon fibre, and the expander plug" It seems like a lot of brands use black fiberglass so most of the time it's there but you dont see ot. To be honest Cam should have asked Elves for anexplanation instead of speculating away for clickbait.
I don’t think that is the point. IMHO I think the point is that so much of the time we ride with our eyes first, that it is nice to look at a bike and not have some name tell us what to think about both the bike and its rider and to just look at a bikes design and say, “man what a beautiful piece of engineering we get to ride everyday.” You’ve wasted whatever amount of time you spend comparing frame geometries, ‘cause it certainly could’ve been better spent.
Fueling - For an old school rider body weight was one of the big things you can control. Stuffing your face with carbs before an event seemed like the wrong thing to do. There was also the idea that improving fat burning instead of carbs was another reason why we didn't consume as many carbs during a ride. These days I have moved on and fuel the work - its made a significant difference to my riding
That chat about fueling really hit after doing a 315 km event. I hated every gel and bar I put in my mouth the last hours but I don't think I would've made it all the way without it
Great interview. There’s a tension on UA-cam btw presenting a ‘character’ for clicks, drama and sales and keeping it real by being yourself. Pretty tired of the former and this channel does the latter best. Please don’t change.
about the fibre glass simple: just make it part of your marketing. either just say: high quality fork without fiber glass. or if you use fiber glass: "better corrosion resitance due to fibre glass"
I enjoyed this episode very much. Can I say on optimal fuelling strategies or choosing the best equipment that might get you the win, often we won’t do that. We will choose suboptimal choices because we need a reason to explain why we failed. We also don’t want to look like we tried too hard. And we don’t want to look like all the gear and no idea. These are my observations and experiences from myself and other people not from race cycling but from my career and life in general. Once you get past those thoughts you get much better at what you do.
Love the content. Pretty much the banter I look forward to when going on long group rides. Cam, I noticed you referenced the three bike comparison quite a bit. Did you feel there was more clarity when doing comparisons side by side versus comparing frames and builds over larger swaths of time?
Hi @CamNichills as a self prescribed expert in frame analysis , you criticised the Windspace rear stays , explain to us numptys how they are different to the Factor Ostro . Think you need to dig a little deeper !!
As always great vid lads. Loved seeing Cam and the frank talk between you all. I am intrigued as to how much it costs to set up a team. And bearing in mind your subscribers could you not get a crowdfunding/subscription to set up a team? £1/mth x 12 x 43k = £516k even 50% should get you a few bikes and some travel costs. That would take the pressure off getting loads of sponsors. Getting young riders cleanly into the sport and raising awareness in Oz for the road scene has to be a win win surely? You could merch the team kit for those of us supporting and too old and fat to join the team. Good quality kit is always welcome. Especially with some daring designs that stand out. 😉 Just a whimsical thought...
This is really opened up the evolution of UA-cam behavior in general not to mention cycling vlogs. In summary all Vlogs on UA-cam are Rabbit Holes so only post if you're a Rabbit😆, and stay away of direct citicism of other content producers is a bad rabbit hole to go down
If you get a chance to ride 5 or 6 of the same yr frame from different runs, you'll discover minor but noticeable variations do occur because from same reasons weighing 3 frames same size will deliver 3 different weights, no two carbon frames are identical. Carbon has a broad QA variance acceptance window , where mild defectiveness makes retail. Big brands, who build 000s of each frame, grade passing frames "A", "A-2", "A-3", A-4 and B. The B frames all go to specific countries, same color ways, same stickers. mix of A2,3,4 go to certain markets, Failing frames get shredded and sold to components mfgs. Funny how people perceive carbon as being objectively comparable. Yes, all SL7s have more less homogeneous characteristics per the caad spec, but theyre not identical by any means.
Great video. I really enjoyed watching this chat with Cam. Btw I m a big fan of Cams youtube channel. I have been watching it for a long time. And Chris and Jesse I love your Nero Show. I listen to every single Nero Show. Keep up the great work. 👍
I'm a bit salty about the Elves Falath Evo sizing, because it's a textbook example of consumers not knowing what they want. On the 2022 Falath Pro, the sizing is just right, but some people thought it was too small, because the likes of Canyon put everyone on a size too big. So Elves listened and made the sizes bigger, but wouldn't you know it, it's even worse than it was before.
Yes… the Chinese companies have yet to be vetted, to long-held Western/European standards. It’s one thing to build a frame and sell it. It’s another thing to support it. Warranty it. To be held accountable with service and support on par with the established bike brands. Once enough chatter circulates and a global comfort level emerges, then acceptance will really take off.
Cam's comments made me think about Hyundai and Kia early on. Now they're all over and the Genesis is moving in the higher class range. "Tiger Woods crashed a Genesis?!?!"....Cam fan, I'll now subscribe after this interview also.
Cam has actually tested bikes with the same equipment on them. But if you test what you are given or buy in the majority of Cams videos why can you not compare them? It is what is supplied out of the box. You can change to the bits you want after but the baseline has to be the spec as listed. Trying to even things out is bollocks to do that you may spend £100's to £1000's to make them the same but that is not what you will by direct. If you put in £2k to get the wheels and tyres you want it is no longer the same bike the your mate could buy for the initial investment.
Cam does 4.4w/kg for 20min. You can kind of back out a vo2max value from that, which I think puts him in the 1-2pc of the population, and a large part of vo2max is genetic. So saying he's not an athlete is silly. Based on my vo2max the max I can probably EVER aspire to is 4w/kg assuming I max out everything. While he's apparently at 4.4 sustainably. I'm currently at 3.5 and I work very hard for it. We're the same age give or take.
I've got an Elves Vanyar, and no fiberglass in the steerer, so maybe it's just their new aero model? But anyway, seems like a lot of chatter about nothing. For those of us that have been riding a while, if there really was some sort of "de-lamination" safety issue with using partial fiberglass, surely there would be noted instances of this and it would have been talked about before...
#savetherimbrake Great video and just shows with Cam's comments just because you're pushing discs (due to the industry) doesn't mean you think they're better.... If only more people would realise this 😂
1:01:49 I think the brands know the value of UA-cam, but as long as they can play dumb they’re able to pay pennies on the dollar for ads. Brands see UA-cam numbers and engagement, come on son, they are having a go!
Appreciate the opportunity to come onto the Nero Show. As mentioned at the end, you boys have a great dynamic that’s producing some unique content for us UA-cam/podcast frothers. So keep it up! Btw - how did my fat head get over 90mins !? 😂
Hi Cam it's me 😁 the most important person in cycling.
Absolute legend Cam, loved hearing your experiences with all these different companies! Respect!!
Good talk. And I couldn't agree more about discs.
From personal experience, discs rule on steep, wet descents. And, s Durian Rider knows, there are plenty of those in Southeast Asia during the summer.
Great chat gents. Cam I admire your humility mate it really comes through. Happy to see you boys getting recognition in Aus cycling community
So much knowledge to draw on here. Tip of the iceberg.
And the Durian Dream is funny but frightening.
I can't believe Cam has now sold out to the Aussie podcast industrial complex!!!
😂 you know me too well @Hill_Walker
Did you some how fall asleep during this video or maybe your brain dead ?, Cam has not sold out to anyone mate in fact the deal that BMC offered Cam is costing him money not making him any money get it.
😂😂
Someone tell DurianRider so he can make a douchey video about it while leering at his girlfriend like a porno director

Good on ya. There many different types of cyclists man
+1
Thanks for sharing. Theres a lot of us recreational riders out there that don't know how to fuel ourselves.
BMC should definitely be paying Cam more! I bought a teammachine partly because of his reviews. Great content all around guys!
100% agree
Same!

Really interesting discussion! A very new side of Cam Nicholls I don't see on his channel. The in depth discussion seems much more in line with Cam's strengths. Great dynamic between you three!
I appreciate all the editing that went into this episode, as that was a lot of intersplicing of Cam's videos.
Thanks Luke, appreciate you mentioning the edit 🙏🏼

Wow the best one yet! Looked and saw it was 1.5 hours, boy did that go by fast. Could have been longer. Nice to see the 3 Aussies all together.
Agree with Cam's comment on the podcast. Chris and Jesse 's podcast is currently the most engaging cycling podcast in Spotify.
Another awesome show guys. Especially liked the candid chat toward the end about road cycling in Australia. Off to watch the Nero Team vids now.
I've been a weekly watcher for about 7-8 months, I didn't know all this team stuff, super stoked to dig in and start watching this content
Cam is a Great Guest and YTer in his own right - Good frank Discussion on a range of relevant topics. You are on a roll with the Guest Episodes.👍
totally agree with Chris, these brands still don't seem to understand the reach that UA-camrs have. Cam will sell way more BMC's than anyone racing for Tudor or AG2R thats just how it is now. Guarantee Francis and Safa have sold more Scott's than DSM.
I guess Scott hooked up the Romain Bardet with Safa.
Same for Katie and her Ribble. Although, unfortunately some of the value would be lost if it was known they were being paid what they were worth to ride these bikes.
Echoing what Cam said. This may be the few channels that I refresh to see if the content is uploaded. You both have a good chemistry!
Excellent Colab guys!!! I think we all really appreciate the work you do on your channels and you’re no BS honest approach. Great content 👍🏻
Much appreciated!
This episode could have gone for ages and I'd still be watching (but hey I've got work to do!!). Good combo today guys 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Great podcast. You've got to get Cam's grouchy old man back for an interview
He is the best!😁😁😁😁
Great show! Loved the rapid fire segment with all of Cam’s bikes over the years
Thanks Mitch ... maybe we could do a show with your favourite steep streets 😂 .. need to get you to try a few in Sydney

Forget the fact that I thoroughly enjoy watching both channels on UA-cam, but using the word ‘amalgamated’ in the process deserves props! 😂
Honestly I never would have considered buying a BMC if cam didn't shill for them, BMC gotta pay the man the biscuit
Underselling himself I think, deserves more
Good to know Jessie is in BMC's pocket with that indirect microphone sponsorship.
Super exciting to see Cam on the show!
Chris, I love that you're not telling anyone what the nero bike is.
Canyenarooooo, canyenarooooooo
@@madmonkeycycling9098But people still ask, and I enjoy that he says "nah, not saying" regardless

For those who are curious about Chris's bike - it's Canyon Aeroad )
I'm so surprised....
We said on the « sticker » video he made. ´twas pretty obvious, the fork in particular in combination with the aero seatpost
I don’t think that is the point. Kind of a side note but it's so refreshing when a host just says "I don't care" about a topic.
BMC is a very small brand comparing to giant specialized and trek.

Great episode. Enjoyed Cam's comments and views.

I know this is old but I like Jessies take on National racing scene, and hearing about the Brisbane city circuit.
58:00 Cam has a new agent Chris. Fair comments and valid.
There might be an angle there, I could become a cycling UA-cam agent
Love the content. Pretty much the banter I look forward to when going on long group rides. Cam, I noticed you referenced the three bike comparison quite a bit. Did you feel there was more clarity when doing comparisons side by side versus comparing frames and builds over larger swaths of time?
Hi @CamNichills as a self prescribed expert in frame analysis , you criticised the Windspace rear stays , explain to us numptys how they are different to the Factor Ostro . Think you need to dig a little deeper !!
I would agree ,on cam about the system six being my fastest bike, but for me it's not super uncomfortable, probably because I weigh a lot less
Just a whimsical thought...
Best pod yet, loved everything. I actually gave this a like before i watched it, my feelings were definitely justified 👌
Great show with a great guest, keep up the good work 👏👏
Just for clarification: sl7 had to recall the compression plug, not the fork.
30:45 I thought everyone already knows its a Canyon Aeroad. How can you not tell?
Great video. I really enjoyed watching this chat with Cam. Btw I m a big fan of Cams youtube channel. I have been watching it for a long time. And Chris and Jesse I love your Nero Show. I listen to every single Nero Show. Keep up the great work. 👍
Glad you enjoyed!
Cam visibly reddens at a late re-mention of 'bulletproof coffee' at 1:01 .... 🤣👍 Great video as usual.
HAHA!!
Topstone gravel bike fully built up $2k usd?! Am I reading that right!
Did I miss it. I was curious on his take on his chapter 2.

@CamNicholls, do you still have the SEKA frame? I realise this is a little old now but I’m interested if it’s the right size.
Disc brakes allow for wider tires???
Cam's comments made me think about Hyundai and Kia early on. Now they're all over and the Genesis is moving in the higher class range. "Tiger Woods crashed a Genesis?!?!"....Cam fan, I'll now subscribe after this interview also.
Always look forward to the show and yes Chris, I put it on the t.v. and watch it as part of my evening schedule 😜
HAHA!! Welcome to the 1% 😂
Damn. I own a Trifox and I hoped for input. I got smug faces and ignorant giggles.
Way. To. Go. Chads.
@CamNicholls How can you fairly compare frames/bikes when they usually have different wheels, tyres and tyre pressure?
We're the same age give or take.
again guys, great content
In this video I learned that Chris would kick Cam’s ass when it comes to Bike Racing
Great podcast guy's, genuinely really enjoyed that. Good blokes 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
@ChrisMillerCycling loved it mate ...... always do. No BS 👍
Great show. Where can I see the video of Jesse giving his thoughts on Cam’s bulletproof coffee?
As JC said he has put the video on private, Cam's BP coffee video is still live though
#savetherimbrake
Great video and just shows with Cam's comments just because you're pushing discs (due to the industry) doesn't mean you think they're better....
If only more people would realise this 😂
1:01:49 I think the brands know the value of UA-cam, but as long as they can play dumb they’re able to pay pennies on the dollar for ads. Brands see UA-cam numbers and engagement, come on son, they are having a go!
