Charlie was Bourne with ovaries before there was a Jason Bourne. This was written by Shane Black, the first modern rock n roll screenwriter. He came on the scene fully realized with his first script sold, a little experimental European art film called Lethal Weapon. Then The Last Boy Scout. Then this one which came right after the Geena Davis big budget bomb Cutthroat Island and weary audiences stayed away not knowing this was an instant classic . So, it bombed hard and went into not only obscurity, but oblivion as it has yet to experience any kind of reassessment or resurgence to finally have it's due. Glad you guys came out with a new reaction. You're such genuine people that it brings a smile to my face. Which I need since I just found out my grandmother died.
I gotta say, there is no better feeling than showing someone a great movie who hasn’t seen a lot of them but loves them and gets excited when they watch them.
This is one of my all time favorites, and I love that you two have enjoyed this crazy classic. I live the acting and plot, giving you nice twists and some great character growth scenes, all blended into a movie with a ton that's 90s but with a bit of darker craziness that I love.
I'm so glad that you are finally reacting to a female-led action movie like this! There are plenty of films starring amazing actresses, and I think you should react to them: Kiss The Girls, To Die For, Basic Instinct, Kill Bill, Double Jeopardy, and many more!
A film with the same kind of idea but a completely different delivery would be "A History Of Violence"... Great reaction guys, saw this in the cinema in South Africa when it was released and also absolutely loved it!
I'd forgotten what an incredible movie this was! Davis and Jackson had incredible chemistry and you just want to more of them! Where the he'll was the sequel!!
Another good action thriller written by Shane Black is The Last Boyscout starring Bruce Willis. It's directed by Tony Scott, who directed True Romance.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" "I hope not. Cause I'm thinking how much my balls hurt!" The action is great in this, but I almost remember it more for some of the best snappy comediac dialogue of the 90s. Shane Black wrote and directed this, and he is great for that comediac stuff - I highly recommend another film of his, The Nice Guys from 2016 with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, with a lot of that same buddy-cop comedy style! Awesome reaction guys!
@CheshireKat528 oh that's right! My apologies to Renny Harlin, I knew that and completely forgot. I'm pretty sure Shane Black directed Iron Man 3, which I know gets a lot of hate but I enjoy for, again, the snappy dialogue, and I think he did a Predator movie but I never saw it and I heard studio interference and reshoots destroyed that film
Is it because I'm 52 years old and enjoy it when people love the movies I watched decades ago. I was there in Toronto at Bathurst and Bloor, when they shot a certain scene. Gina Davis also dis Cutthroat Island with the same director/husband that was an ABSOLUTE GEM!
Fun fact about this movie Samuel L Jackson and Genna Davis both had to actually submerge beneath freezing water for the window jump scene at the train station and they had to do three takes! Fortunately for them after each take they was able to crawl to a waiting hot tub that was nearby.
I love this movie so much and Gena is a queen. She did so well as a character who's got two personalities within her. I love both her personalities so much.
All hail Geena Davis!🙌🏾 Every actress in Hollywood owes Ms. Davis a debt of gratitude. This movie singlehandedly jump-started female- lead action vehicles🤘🏽Thank You guys for another brilliant reaction!
There's just as much comedy as there is action in this movie. I love it, it's a real gem. When Charlie catches the kid smoking always makes me lol. And i've never met anyone who didn't enjoy it.
I remember seeing this in the theater. At that time, I hadn't seen a single preview for it so I went in completely open-minded. I was so blown away that a movie this great didn't get any advertising air time. It's been a favorite of mine ever since.
I recently watched in interview with Samuel L. Jackson and he was asked to name his top 5 movie characters that he's ever played. Mitch was his no. 1. He said him and Geena Davis had such a laugh, such a good time doing this movie, he loved it- it's his favorite :)
Fun fact: "Sam Caine" is an anagram of "amnesiac." Also, Jackson has gone on the record that of all his movies this is the one he likes most. As much as I love this, I hope someday you see the French 1990 movie (subtitles beat dubbing) La Femme Nikita, the great-grandmama of all modern action movies with badass heroines. Thanks, and always remember -- chefs do that.

hey there TBR and Samantha! LOVED your reaction to one of my absolute FAVORITE films of the 90's. I am one of those people who wonders WHY in the world more reactors haven't watched this one. Craig Bierko has the odd distinction of starring in TWO films called 'The 13th Floor', completely unrelated to each other. The one from 1999 is a great movie and I believe ya'all would enjoy it.
So glad you got to see this and shared your reaction! A great ensemble film to see is *_Go_* (1999). You'll love all the stars and situations! 😄 My usual Recommendations: ● *_The Fisher King_* (1991) Dir. by Terry Gilliam, with Robin Williams & Jeff Bridges. ● *_Silverado_* (1985) A fun western with Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Kevin Costner, Jeff Goldblum, and more. ● *_The Abyss_* (1989) Dir by James Cameron. Ed Harris, Michael Biehn (Reese from Terminator & Hicks from Aliens), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. *EDIT:* And YES! *_Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang_* (2005) is a MUST SEE!
WOW! You have some great taste in movies!!! The Fisher King and Silverado are 2 that I suggest to reactors all the time, especially The Fisher King, “I’m talking to the little people!” 😆
Another good Geena Davis movie is Earth Girls are Easy. There also another movie where she plays a vampire that was pretty good - Transylvania 6-5000. That was the first of her movies I watched , and instantly feel for her.
This movie came out when DVDs first became a thing back in the late 90s early 2000s. Where you go into a Best Buy, and see a DVD Showcase Display, playing clips from Barbed Wire, Golden Eye, and this movie The Long Kiss Goodnight. Before DVDs, VHS just couldn't show the fidelity that DVDs showed, and this movie along with Barbed Wire, you could hear the individual bullet casing hitting the floor, and the explosions were movie theater quality for the first time in a home set up. This movie encapsulated what the movie industry was about to bring to the home movie experience, and will always be remembered as one of the greatest action movies of all time.
This, Lethal Weapon, and Die Hard are more my Christmas movies than Home Alone/Christmas Vacation/A Christmas Story. I have watched them almost every Christmas for at least the last 25 years!
Loved your reaction glad you both loved it. It's such an underrated film and geena Davis is massively under appreciated by critics for this badass role. You got to remember this was before Jason Bourne before black widow and wonder woman and all the other badass women you see in films today. Action films back then were still mainly a man's club, there was Sigourney in aliens and rene russo in lethal weapon but neither were as badass so I don't think critics and action fans could appreciate how great she really was. Also like how you compared it to true lies I think you were spot on 👌

I recommended this about a year ago and I'm so glad you guys got to see it. I figured you guys would really enjoy it or at least be entertained. Great review you two!!
This movie was incredibly underrated. Glad you two enjoyed it. Keep up the great reactions.
Glad you guys came out with a new reaction. You're such genuine people that it brings a smile to my face. Which I need since I just found out my grandmother died.
We’re so sorry for your loss
So sorry to hear that. May she rest in peace.
@@TBRSchmitt @marcuscato9083
thank you
@@TBRSchmitt you should react to the Hunger Games movies
@@TBRSchmitt you guys should react to American Ultra
Love Brian Cox I've meet him 3 times. He's from my hometown Dundee Scotland. He's an amazing guy.
The lines in this movie are just perfect: fun, sassy, cool… great reaction again guys!❤🎉
I love the “I took lessons” part. 😂
I think at some point everyone can relate to Mitch's mood at 22:09 LOL
A film with the same kind of idea but a completely different delivery would be "A History Of Violence"...
Great reaction guys, saw this in the cinema in South Africa when it was released and also absolutely loved it!
I'd forgotten what an incredible movie this was! Davis and Jackson had incredible chemistry and you just want to more of them! Where the he'll was the sequel!!
Criminally underrated movie. Nice reaction.
Another good action thriller written by Shane Black is The Last Boyscout starring Bruce Willis. It's directed by Tony Scott, who directed True Romance.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"I hope not. Cause I'm thinking how much my balls hurt!"
The action is great in this, but I almost remember it more for some of the best snappy comediac dialogue of the 90s. Shane Black wrote and directed this, and he is great for that comediac stuff - I highly recommend another film of his, The Nice Guys from 2016 with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, with a lot of that same buddy-cop comedy style!
Awesome reaction guys!
Shane Black wrote the screenplay and was producer. Renny Harlin was the director, at the time he and Geena Davis were married.
@@jayge17 I always enjoyed Iron Man 3 as well, and yes Shane did direct it and co-wrote the screenplay.
*It's either gone for good, or there to stay* I've been quoting that for 26 years haha
Fantastic film,I remember randomly renting it out years ago and was surprised I'd never heard of it.
Fun fact about this movie Samuel L Jackson and Genna Davis both had to actually submerge beneath freezing water for the window jump scene at the train station and they had to do three takes! Fortunately for them after each take they was able to crawl to a waiting hot tub that was nearby.
Renny Harlin directed The Long Kiss Goodnight
He was married to Geena at that time.
Also directed Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2
I love this movie so much and Gena is a queen. She did so well as a character who's got two personalities within her. I love both her personalities so much.
Haven't seen this since I was little, its funny my mom's watching it on Tv right now
I think it is on Tubi and HBO Max. It is a great movie.
All hail Geena Davis!🙌🏾 Every actress in Hollywood owes Ms. Davis a debt of gratitude. This movie singlehandedly jump-started female- lead action vehicles🤘🏽Thank You guys for another brilliant reaction!
" Samantha is Obviously superior"
I'd agree 💯
Samuel L Jackson said this was his most underrated movie. He had a lot of fun and wished it did better at the box office so they could make a sequel.
This film is a action packed fun ride from start to finish! A really underrated action film.
That part where the guy says "I think I"m dying" and his response I always lol.
I recently watched in interview with Samuel L. Jackson and he was asked to name his top 5 movie characters that he's ever played.
Mitch was his no. 1. He said him and Geena Davis had such a laugh, such a good time doing this movie, he loved it- it's his favorite :)
Geena Davis has been nominated for 2 Oscars, Golden Globes, and an Emmy.Thelma and Louise was a huge movie. She was nominated for an Oscsr
She won an Oscar.
Great! Now this is one I've really been thinking about. Can't wait to see what y'all do with it. Here we go! :)
Glad you got the opportunity to enjoy this film. It's long been one of my favorites.
The chemistry between Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson is pure gold. The one liners are a chef's kiss, perfection.
One of tbe best movies of the 90's!!! I love your channel. You guys get the best movies to react to. Hal's Christmas toast was fantastic. "May the best of your past be the worst of your future." I use it to this day. It is dope. I look forward to more with you guys. Great reaction!!
LOVE this one. Most can’t tell you exactly why they love it, but we all
Do. Couldn’t even guess how many times I’ve watched it. Intentionally. 😮 hahaha
This one definitely deserves more recognition, a great action movie with an absolute kick-*ss female protagonist, I looove Geena Davies in this move, and a great pairing with Samuel Jackson who is awesome as always with some great writing to work with.
another action classic - hard but with humor and heart - I miss the 80ies and 90ies...with all these great action scenes, stunts, cool sets, amazing camera, etc.
"The 51st State" with Samuel in scottish skirts is newer but also fun.
hey there TBR and Samantha!
My usual Recommendations:
● *_The Fisher King_* (1991) Dir. by Terry Gilliam, with Robin Williams & Jeff Bridges.
The Fisher King and Silverado are 2 that I suggest to reactors all the time, especially The Fisher King, “I’m talking to the little people!” 😆
We did The Abyss! Thanks for the recommendations!
Such an underrated movie - long forgotten by many people.
Another good Geena Davis movie is Earth Girls are Easy. There also another movie where she plays a vampire that was pretty good - Transylvania 6-5000. That was the first of her movies I watched , and instantly feel for her.
My favorite childhood movie ever! Sam Jackson and Geena Davis are fantastic in this movie. And you both I know you enjoyed it heavily. It's so good!
Watching this outro I think this is one of those cool movies that kept it as one and not open for sequels that's vulnerable to disappoint
Not only is this my favorite action movie ever.. it's my favorite comedy ever 🤣
jackson actually said in an interview that this was his favourite character that hes ever played
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is an underrated recent classic from the same writer and I was so hyped to hear you guys mention it! 😁
I use that "Frank and Earnest" line regularly.
Also like how you compared it to true lies I think you were spot on 👌
Great reaction, this film is such an underrated gem.
It's brilliant to see people finding it :)
man, this was another fave of mine as a kid and idk why but even back then that joke about that song not being about linen always go me : P also the fact she mentioned the X-men was always way too cool to me, my ma didnt know wtf a X-man was : D
