While Judge Dredd 'purists' seemed to not like Stallone's version, I have to say Demolition Man / Judge Dredd both feel cut from the same production company. Maybe it's just Rob Schneider.

True, this movie is even more accurate nowadays, it show us a possible future If we let PC crap spread and infect the next generations. @@victorfatalys1076 EXACTLY! 💯 I've always loved this movie, but I forgot all about it, until last year. We can't let our future become like the world in Demolition Man because we're 2 steps away from this awful reality.

She made a big impression and I knew she'd be in more movies and wasn't surprised when she became an enormous star after co starring with Keanu in Speed.
Keep in mind..... Wesley Snipes is a martial artist so those moves you seeing 100%. When you see the blade movies you going to see how good he is in terms of his fighting technique
Demolition Man is my favorite Stallone movie. It's the peak 90s action comedy. People have been wondering for almost 30 years how the three seashells work.
I don't know if anyone remembers this, but Sting wrote a song called "Demolition Man" back when he was with his band, the Police. He remade a version of it for this movie.
I can't watch this movie without laughing. Went to see it in the theater with my best friend, his brother, and stepfather. I had such bad gas that the people sitting behind us moved seats. 😂

It's so long ago I forgot. There's a connection between this movie and "Last Action Hero". Both came out in 1993 and Stallone and Arnold make fun of each other via references in their movies: Here we have the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library and in "Last Action Hero", Stallone played "The Terminator" (The best movie of his career, according to Danny).
Wesley Snipes started learning martial arts at 12 and holds many black belts in various disciplines. Interesting that their fight scenes are basically boxing vs martial arts! Sandra Bullock stole the movie. She is funny and energetic.
You might well know this already the film is based around the Aldous Huxley dystopian novel 'Brave New World'. Sandra Bullock's character is named after the author.
Yes, I feel like Oscar was so misunderstood back in the day. It was a John Landis's nod to old Marx Brother's farces, but it was like no one got that, while at 10 years old when it came out, I totally did. So slept on! Great cast, great jokes, and yes, the best of Stallone's movies for me!
Fun fact: When they said Taco Bell I had my infancy crushed! When I watched it back in the day, it wasn't Taco Bell, it was Pizza Hut. I had to check and apparently, as Taco bell wasn't a well known brand in several countries, some releases they dubbed it Pizza Hut.
I thought went crazy for remembering Taco Bell and Pizza Hut as a merged brand, but I guess I saw both versions... so in a way I did go a little crazy.
@@Pickersgill48 At the time this movie was released (1993), they only had two Taco Bells in the UK, and they didn't have them at all in some countries like Australia, which didn't get its first Taco Bell until 2019! So a lot of people outside of North America wouldn't have recognized Taco Bell. But the first Pizza Hut in Australia opened in 1970, and in the UK in 1973, so that's a restaurant they would've recognized. THAT is the reason they dubbed in Pizza Hut.

I remember when this movie came out when I was a young lad and MTV did a lot of behind the scenes and previews for this movie so I was excited to see it when it came out. It was amazing to see the futuristic depiction of technology like the self driving cars and also the comedy and satire that the movie had all wrapped up in an action movie.
Fun fact: here in Europe where Taco Bell was largely unknown at the time Taco Bell was replaced by Pizza Hut in post - "Pizza Hut" was poorly dubbed over the existing footage of people clearly saying "Taco Bell" and all logos etc were replaced digitally with Pizza Hut logos. Not the food though so it definitely didn't look like pizza in any way shape or form. :)
Ugh. I really hate alternate versions of movies going out to other countries, it ruins the shared experience. I like to see other cultures, and don't need to have everything tailored to where I live. It's insulting to the intelligence of people, and takes away a learning opportunity.
While true its actually extremely hard to find now. I first watched this film in the late 90s and I have never seen a "pizza hut" version shown anywhere in the UK. I had to look up the dubbing on the internet, just like the PG Robocop dub.
This movie is so much smarter than people think. It's a great satire, action movie, sci-fi and only continues to gain classic status. So many movies these days just rely on spectacle without having a good script.
Thr Dr (Cocteau) was played by the brilliant (Sir) Nigel Hawthorne. He was Oscar nominated for the eponymous role in The Madness of King George and played one of the greatest ever comedic characters, Sir Humphrey Appleby in the 1980's TV comedies Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister I am enjoying your reactions 🙂🙂🙂
Great reactions as always, it's fun to know that here in the UK, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut, as Taco Bell was virtually unknown in many foreign countries at the time. So they had the actors, including Sly, dub the words 'Pizza Hut' over the Taco Bell lines, plus changing the logos on the windows of the restaurant. Hilarious, well worth watching this version to see how badly dubbed it is!! 🤣
The three seashells is an iconic movie meme, I guess in pair with sharks with freaking laser beams attached to the heads. Speaking of which, have you watched Austin Powers?
Don't ask anyone who worked on this movie what the three seashells mean. They probably won't punch you, but you'll get a tired death glare for sure. They've been asked a question that doesn't have an answer for 30+ years. It's like Gary Larson and his Far Side comic "Early Cow Tools".
According to an interview with Sylvester Stallone: "It was explained to me by the writer is that you use two seashells together like chopsticks, pull gently, and scrape what's left with the third."
21:38 i just freaked out for a moment when he said "taco bell" 21:56 and when Stallone also said it i watched this movie for the first time just a few days ago and they said "pizza hut" and there was a pizza hut logo too i almost thought the mandella effect was real. i checked the movie again and realized it was dubbed over. they changed it for non-american releases. but you can still see the taco bell logos on the windows.
This is a classic! so much fun, so many well crafted one liners that fit naturally within the story that I can't give enough praises of how God damn good this film is
According to Stallone, the first two seashells are used to clamp and pull the waste, whilst the third is used to clean up! So now you know, and you probably wish you didn’t.
That movie does not get the originality recognition it deserves. Seriously with todays deritive crap the 90s were wild enough someone said "hey lets make climbing based government heist film with evil terrorists set deeo in the mountains!" Todays idea of "originality" is "why dont remake that but with women as the lead characters".
The hairstyle Wesley Snipes had when he portrayed psychopathic criminal Simon Phoenix in this movie was a near mirror image of the one he sported 5 years later, portraying the vampire/human hybrid superhero Blade!!!!!😄
So glad you watched this one. I love this movie and it is my favorite character that Wesley Snipes plays. Truly great choice to start Stallone's movies.
You gotta love how the guns in the museum have live ammunition close by for quick use. Even today no one mounts guns for display with live ammo around like that.
Stallones BEST acting performance (other than OG Rocky) was in "Copland" Siskel and Ebert were hoping he would get nominated for an oscar, but it didnt happen. If you like Scorcese films like Goodfellas and Casino you will love "Copland" . Stallone put on like 50 pounds for the role to look overweight. Try and find the version with the deleted scenes.
It's important to remember that when this movie was made, the US was at the end of the crime surge of the 70's thru 90's. In 1993 when this was released, the murder rate was 9.4 per 100000. That's double our current rate. There was a fear that the society was teetering on the edge of complete breakdown.
@Krister L Freakonomics! In addition to the leaded gasoline, Roe v. Wade was early 70s ... and 20 years later, a smaller proportion of young adults had endured neglectful and abusive childhoods from being unwanted pregnancies ...
The LA riots after the Rodney King verdict in 1992 didn't help people's outlook, either (notice how the instinct wasn't to sympathize with those committing violence, but rather to double down on demanding more policing and punishment ... hence the increased incarceration rate over the rest of the 90s)
@@secularmonk5176 That certainly didn't work but what about no cash bail that we have now? Basically anything short of outright premeditated murder and you just get to go free.
Check out an early Stallone movie called Nighthawks starring Sly as a cop, Billy Dee Williams as his partner and the outstanding Rutger Hauer as an international terrorist.
Judge Dredd is not nearly as good as Demolition Man. Plus, for someone like me, who grew up reading Dredd comics every week, it really pisses on source material and does not at all understand it. Karl Urban' s 2012 Dredd was 1000 times better, and really understood sho and what Dredd was supposed to be. Before that movie, Robocop was really the closest that we got to Dredd, without actually being Dredd. I didn't grow up reading Spiderman comics, but i guess that my reaction to Stallone's Dredd is that similar to that of Spiderman fans to Venom, or X-Men comic fans to Deadpool in X-Men Origins.
Awesome reaction and movie! What I've come to realize with all these older films is that you don't need a air-tight premise to have fun, the movie is ridiculous but in the best of ways! At the end of the day we watch them to have a good time and smile rather for their philosophical value. And lastly, Sandra Bullock as Lenina is a great example of strong female leads or characters done correctly, she can kick ass and be feminine at the same time. The best to you both and all my fellow watchers in the comments.
Wesley is great in this movie! He’s really great in all his roles. New Jack City is a great gangster movie, and White Men Can’t Jump is a must see with Woody Harrelson. Dennis Leary (Edgar) thing when this came out was little rants. He had 30 second skits on MTV where he would talk about different topics, usually while smoking a cigarette like the speech he gives them by the car.
And he almost wasn't in it, he initially turned down the role but producer Joel Silver finally convinced him to do it. I'm really glad that he did because I agree, he really is great in the film.
It's the most fun/entertaining of any of his movies and he has the most personality in this movie. Way too many movies the characters are too serious to be entertaining. The whole world in this movie is pretty interesting to explore as well.
I think Nigal Hawthorne was the only one who wasn't entirely thrilled with the film. He only took the role to help his chances with getting cast as King George, which, as it turned out, was already his.
This movie feels like the result of a bunch of screenwriters chatting and one asks "what if we used that novel 'Brave New World' as the basis for an action film?"
For the technology, I think a lot of that is just due to mostly being extensions of what was already available or expected soon in 1993. Touch screens, flat screens, holograms, VR, self-driving cars, gps, mini CDs, etc for example had all been done to some extent. Even the cars were apparently built up from concept cars.
If you're keen on Sandra Bullock and you like courtroom dramas, PLEASE go for 'A Time To Kill'. Fantastic film with a stellar cast: Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Donald and Keifer Sutherland, Patrick McGoohan, Kevin Spacey, Samuel L. Jackson, Oliver Platt, etc. One of my all-time favourites: great story, fabulous cast at their best, what more could you ask?
Fun fact, the "space age" gun phoenix gets in the museum is actually just a g11, an experimental firearm using caseless ammunition which started its development in 1968. Since it looks pretty sci fi it's often used as a futuristic weapon in video games, but demolition man is the only movie ever to use one, since it's so rare.
This future is loosely based on the book Brave New World. There are several references in the movie. The most obvious is Huxley is the last name of the author.
welcome to one of the greatest, most enduring mysteries in cinema history: how do you use the three seashells. and now that you've been clued in to the reference, you'll see it everywhere.
I love this movie! It was huge with my friends when I was a teen. Between Sly, being the action hero he was/is, Wesley being in a bunch of movies we enjoyed between 1991 and when this came out, and Dennis Leary's song "Asshole" having just been a massive hit here in Australia, we were already hooked but the movie is just so much fun it became an instant favourite. I just wish there was more Dennis Leary in it. His rant about the ratbugers and what he and his people want is a thing of beauty (the man can rant like no other!). Plus this was my first Sandra Bullock movie, and then Speed came out a couple of years later so that cemented my love for her. If you ever want to do a side quest from the new Stallone-athon, can I suggest White Men Can't Jump. This is the movie I first noticed Wesley, it also co-stars Woody Harrelson and just those two together alone are worth the watch!! You think Wesley's dialogue in this was good, just wait till he has Woody to bounce off of...
This is one of my favorite movies. It ain't cinema, but it sure is entertainment. There's just enough substance and depth under all the camp and tomfoolery, and the action is well paced. And of course, the performances are all on point - everyone had a clear understanding of the tone the director and writers were shooting for, and everyone played their part. So much fun. A grossly underrated film.

This was one of Sandra's first starring roles. She was in another favorite of mine called Love Potion #9. It was this movie and Speed that made her into a star.

While Judge Dredd 'purists' seemed to not like Stallone's version, I have to say Demolition Man / Judge Dredd both feel cut from the same production company. Maybe it's just Rob Schneider.

Seconded. Oscar was great.
Amazingly tight comedy script, love Oscar so much
Fun fact: When they said Taco Bell I had my infancy crushed!
I was annoyed when I saw they dubbed Pizza Hut over Taco Bell, thank god I bought the dvd which had the original Taco Bell version
Fell in love with Sandra Bullock in this movie!
Same here. It was my first time seeing her in anything and I was smitten. She was a big reason I saw Speed opening day the following June(thank God they didn't cast Ellen Degeneres as originally intended!).

I love Oscar. Sadly it seems to be one of the movies that time forgot. Plus, it also contains one of my favorite performances by Tim Curry.
How is that fun?
Ugh. I really hate alternate versions of movies going out to other countries, it ruins the shared experience. I like to see other cultures, and don't need to have everything tailored to where I live. It's insulting to the intelligence of people, and takes away a learning opportunity.

@@garysmith3037 I hate the phrase "fun fact".
How classic is it ?
Thr Dr (Cocteau) was played by the brilliant (Sir) Nigel Hawthorne.
He was Oscar nominated for the eponymous role in The Madness of King George and played one of the greatest ever comedic characters, Sir Humphrey Appleby in the 1980's TV comedies Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister
I am enjoying your reactions 🙂🙂🙂
With Brexit there's been a surge of reactors watching Yes, Minister clips, because frighteningly, they haven't really aged a day.
Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are best political documentaries
Great reactions as always, it's fun to know that here in the UK, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut, as Taco Bell was virtually unknown in many foreign countries at the time. So they had the actors, including Sly, dub the words 'Pizza Hut' over the Taco Bell lines, plus changing the logos on the windows of the restaurant. Hilarious, well worth watching this version to see how badly dubbed it is!! 🤣

ALSO, DON'T FORGET!!! MANY THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THIS MOVIE, ACTUALLY DID (in real life) OCCUR YEARS LATER!!

One of my favorite campy movies. Judge Dredd is also filled with it and it also stars Stallone and Rob Schneider.
I greatly prefer Karl Urban as Judge Dredd.
Its insane how prophetic this film has become.

Pretty spot on
@Krister L Nah, they would be more subtle, like make that character's first name the name of one the characters from the novel
The almost prophetic satire of this movie was so unappreciated by most critics back in the day.
Now comes the real fun part, where you start noticing in everyday life how elements of today’s world were predicted by Demolition Man’s future. 😁
The 'no touching hands' part hits pretty hard now.
Agreed it's a very prescient movie. Critical Drinker's review of this movie points it all out.
And Lenina is one of the main female characters in the novel (It's a feminized "Lenin" ... lots of references to communism in BNW)
Simon also Says "it's a Brave New World " also someone calls John a Savage and John the Savage was a character in a Brave New World.

This is the movie I first noticed Wesley, it also co-stars Woody Harrelson
and just those two together alone are worth the watch!! You think Wesley's dialogue in this was good, just wait till he has Woody to bounce off of...

At the old Planet Hollywood in Dallas when you walked in they had Sly frozen in that pod above your head really cool place
