Who could've possibly predicted ... the walk-on starter for Texas Tech would eventually become a legend at Oklahoma and the No. 1 overall pick of the NFL Draft some 5 years later by the Cleveland Browns. He stepped in during Week 3 of the 2018 NFL season as a rookie and proceeded to obliterate the NFL rookie touchdown pass record. Meanwhile, the quarterback on the otherside of the field, Garrett Gilbert, currently stands as Baker's backup with the Browns. Oh, did I mention they went to the same high school and it was Baker Mayfield, the future No. 1 overall pick, who looked at Gilbert as his mentor? And, they were and remain best of friends. Gilbert just took part in Baker's wedding as a groomsman. You can't make this stuff up and, if you did, people would call it far fetched. Unbelievable. Go Browns!
Crazy stories with Baker. Im pretty sure i met him before a game as kids i was playing catch with my brother and him and his dad walked by and he asked if he could play and he had a good arm then lol I think it was him cuz i cant remember what he said his name was but he looked just like him and said he was from Austin Texas which I thought was cool cuz UT is in Austin.
Looking back on it now, cannot see how June Jones didn't have more success at SMU then he had at Hawaii. Supposedly, SMU had Bigger AD budget than Hawaii, better facilities, ability to attract better players, etc., etc. Or was it the attraction/lure/mystique of 808 that made the players "Step Up their Game?!"...Good luck, JJ...Always ensconced in local 808 sports pantheon!
Great to see Bakers first college game

I should mention both Mayfield and Gilbert's backup QB'S also went to Lake Travis

What ever happened to Baker Mayfield?
lost job to davis webb, who transferred to Cal and was drafted in the 3rd round. Then he walked on to OU and rest is history.
@@e9sports393 I’m pretty certain he was kidding
